I wish we could have a ‘like’ button 👍

Looking at some of the lovely ancestral photos, some of the photos of beautiful plants and recipes etc, I do wish we could have one of these. It’s not hard and most chat rooms have them. Are we not sophisticated enough to cope with one or what ? Just wondering if others would like one,too

Oh and I certainly never said anything about a dislike button. That would be awful.

Yes, of course it would. But in practice, what’s the difference? Perhaps you’ve never noticed anyone being mocked or put down on GN by someone with an obvious dislike for them? I’ve seen it too many times. Some members have left GN because of it. And sadly the person having their fun can be a popular one, the sort who’s sweetness and light to others, and has “friends” just because they post regularly, or use private messaging a lot. If those people add a shower of likes to the bitchy comments, don’t you think that would add to the upset?

And if anyone doubts that there are cliques on GN, I was once sent a pm in error detailing how “we” were going to get rid of a particular member by targetting her posts. Now that was an eye opener. I don’t think there’s anything like as much of it going on now, but who knows?

This.

Exactly. I couldn't have put it better.

I agree too. I was fairly new to GN when the put downs and mocking came my way, but I stuck with GN because 99% of posters I encountered could still interact pleasantly politely enough. So we would need a disagree though I like you personally button!!

Well there’s a thought. You are awful, but I like you - Dick Emery ?

nanna8 Wed 18-Oct-23 09:44:04

I’m feeling very blessed and fortunate that the nasty pasties didn’t come my way recently. I didn’t realise they were still around though when I first stated, a few years back, there was a group of them who were atrocious. They flew off, thankfully. I was about to leave for pastures greener and newer.

😆
Maybe it's better to provoke a response than to be ignored!?

This is the only forum I know of that has neither a like or edit facility. It’s ridiculous sometimes having to repeat something that someone has said when all I want to do is agree with it. I’m rather suspicious of the motivations behind it. Maybe it creates more posts?

We are not to be trusted with like buttons.

Doodledog Wed 18-Oct-23 15:56:39

A lot of forums don't have an edit facility. It's really annoying, but I do understand why. It can lead to people editing posts to make others look bad, and can cause trouble. Some places I know allow editing within the first five minutes, or edits that can be viewed later, to minimise the chance of this happening.

I would really like the chance to edit for ambiguity or the sort of poor sentence structure that I never notice until I have posted, even after using the preview facility.

I would love a like button and also properly threaded topics!

Maggiemaybe Wed 18-Oct-23 17:42:13

I’m probably showing my ignorance here, but what does properly threaded topics mean?

Quokka Thu 19-Oct-23 10:38:30

I’d also like a laugh button. Just been reading some quirky posts that made me lol.

nanna8 Fri 20-Oct-23 09:56:20

Oh Quokka people might gang up on others and laugh at them. You have to be careful 😁😁😁

Just as you are laughing at people who have told you of their negative experiences on GN.

You have no idea nanna8 or you wouldn't be so facetious nor dismissive. sad
