People in Glasgow are really friendly and helpful.. Have a wonderful time.

Agree with all the sights folk have mentioned, but one thing we really enjoyed was the hop on hop off bus which was valid for 2 days , though that was a couple years ago. Enjoy

The thing I remember most about Glasgow was the wonderful friendliness of the people in the hig sprawling Central Hotel and the big smiles of the ladies who served me in shops. It was so different from attitude of shop staff in central London and really added happy memories of Glasgow.

I’m in Edinburgh, but when I go to Glasgow I usually go to a restaurant called Ardnamurchan at the top of Hope Street which has excellent food and is not too expensive. It is also within easy walking distance of the bus station. Glasgow Cathedral is worth a visit, as is Provan’s Lodge, the ‘oldest house in Glasgow’, which is nearby and also the Cathedral museum which is interesting too. Have a great time!

We were in Glasgow recently. Lovely Indian food restaurant, Koolba in the Candleriggs area. Loved the murals in the city too, you can book a guided tour.

I've never eaten a 'proper' meal at the Willow Tea Rooms (Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret MacDonald design) on Sauchiehall St but the Tea and Scones are fabulous.

Thank you Baggs for triggering a wonderful memory. In 1965 Love of my life and I went to Glasgow to buy an engagement ring, Then for a bite to eat at the Willow Tea Rooms, where he went down on one knee and proposed. Of course I said yes and the customers and staff all cheered. No charge for our meal but we left a generous tip

Lots to do in Glasgow,as peoplehave suggested. Great places to eat and drink in Merchant City. Also great underground system. You will have a fab time

Depending on the weather, The Necropolis is a very interesting place - it contains the tombstones of the great who founded Glasgow, salsa walking round it you can see all aspects of Glasgow - It's quite close to St Mungo's Cathedral and the gallery of religious art.

Great ideas on places to visit from everyone and, if the weather is reasonable, the HoHo bus (live commentary if possible) is an ideal way to get about.

If you appreciate good food, you are spoiled for choice in Glasgow. Obviously depends on your budget, but here are some suggestions:

We love the west end and Finnieston areas for restaurants.

Ox and Finch or Ka Pao for amazing tapas style food.

Six by Nico ( 2 separate restaurants usually offering different menus).

Crabshakk for fish - not cheap, but excellent - again 2 to choose from, the original in Argyle St is small, but lots of character, Vinicombe St one is bigger and more stylish.

If you like curries, Chakkoo does tapas style dishes - again 2 restaurants - 1 in the city centre and 1 in the west end.

A superb cafe which doubles as a restaurant is Coia's in Duke Street in the east end of glasgow. Hubby and I go there regularly.

Hijacking the thread, sorry Curlywhirly. Would any of you, who obviously live in Glasgow, be interested in coming to the latest meet up?

Concert Hall Cafe Bar, light lunch and everyone pays for their own meal/snack. There is always lots of chat and hilarity.

Hope you have a great time it sounds a good time had by all kind of gathering but I’m not free at the present to meet up.
Be good to read about how it all goes though.

Willow Tea Rooms!

I've never been but it is on my list of places I want to visit and reading about all the suggested places to visit makes me want to go even.more
But there are obviously too many places to visit just for a couple of days, and it is a long way for me. How long a visit would make it possible to visit a lot of those places. I love art galleries and museums and do actually like to spend time liking at the exhibits and reading the captions. I'd be really frustrated just popping in a gallery for just a couple of hours.
