hotel shower problems!

No! It's always a struggle that first hotel shower. I can usually manage it in time but remember a big problem with an extremely fancy and complicated one at a hotel in St Andrews. I gave up and had a comprehensive wash at the sink. Luckily it wasn't just me. MrAveline, who knows everything, couldn't manage it either

Don't usually have a problem apart from the types that run off the bath taps get the switch the wrong way if you fancy a soak and get a wet head instead

Don't get me started!
This week, one big round fixed shower head above me, one detachable one halfway down the wall pipe, then one either side spurting out of the wall. (Well, this was Ansterdam! 😊)
Then one big round dial, saucer size, with inner dials, and two higher knobs like stars to swivel in clockwise or anti clockwise directions.
Sometimes you need a degree in plumbing to work it all out!

I’m so glad it’s not just me! The showers that only appear to have one control are the ones that baffle me. How do you turn on the water and adjust the temperature with the same control? And why are they often so smooth and slippery that you can’t get a grip on them to turn them?

Left to me, they would be as clear as day. A big red dot for hot, blue for cold and no immovable plate sized shower heads.

I really dislike them.
If the bath's shallow enough I resort to a bath.

I once flooded a hotel bathroom because I couldn't read the instructions. The staff were very understanding when they came to mop up.

I absolute hate the majority of showers. I can’t see the dials without my glasses and they soon get steamed up and there is nowhere to put them. Often the floor is slippery. I need a grab rail. There isn’t always somewhere to put bottles and I struggle to pick them up off the floor. Some showers are too, hot, too cold, badly regulated. I much prefer a bath, but can only use that if there is a non slip bath mat and grab rail. So I am quite accustomed to having a comprehensive wash, provided the basin is not too tiny.

We're booking to go somewhere in the UK in the spring and one of my first thoughts was - will it be easy to have a shower?

I'm the one that works out the shower in hotels.
My husband never "gets" them.

Callistemon21 why not ask them to demonstrate when you get there?

As shower caps are not always provided and showers are not adjustable, it's a good idea to take a shower cap with you unless you're one of those lucky people who can just shampoo and go!

Yes yes yes ban those plate sized shower heads that have a mind of their own! Just as bad can be hospital wet rooms that have motion sensors - nurse ( wearing clothes) attempting to dry patient passes near sensor and extra unwanted water cascades down ....give us simple turn on taps please!

Absolutely agree. I often resort to using a flannel over the controls to get some grip - and then. of course, can't see which way to turn them!

... I'm still trying to get to grips (literally) with our own home shower.
