I only use FB for our local news activities, however like everything the page is becoming more and more political.
The latest is the Mother of a 9 year old girl saying her daughter wants to strike at school because of the events in Palestine.
I’m not sure whether the child refuses to go to school or what form her strike/protest will take but the Mother is angry that the school are not teaching the children about the Palestinian cause.
I think this is the parents using their child as a political mascot.
I was told my 9 year old granddaughter would be an uncaring adult because I responded saying I felt children should be playing games and reading books etc.
This is my second response
Children should not be politicised, at 9 a child should not be the spokesperson for any cause or used as a political pawn in a game that only adults should partake in.
My granddaughter will be fine as she will be allowed to be a child and develop and grow at the pace of a child.
She will have had fun, fall outs with friends, make ups with friends lots of scraped knees, tears and giggles over silly things that only matter because you are 9.
When she is an adult she will have the emotional and developmental skills to comprehend protest.
For now let the child be a child.
Is a 9 year old capable of fully understanding conflict and protest and is it right that they should be encouraged by parents to take this into the playground?
What was your happiest moment today?
