Throughout the year we receive lots of food and drink gifts from our visitors and I tend to put most of them away until Christmas, so when the season comes around I always have a good store of fancy chocolates/biscuits/wine etc. Unfortunately my (teacher) daughter-in-law brings her stash of edible gifts too (though she has also been known to eat her body weight in sweets and chocolates). Soooo - they’re all available to be munched on, but with three good meals a day the uptake is more limited than I would hope for and when the family leave I try to ply them with the remaining tubs, boxes, packets etc., but to no avail.
Right now I still have a tin full of assorted chocolates and sweets, several tubes (smarties, munchies, millions etc.), three or four bars of Swiss chocolate, a box of Breton biscuits, a packet of Italian cantucci, a box of chocolate dates and a rather large tin of Russian chocolate wafer biscuits. Oh yes, and a big box of Thornton chocolates……and I’ve just remembered there’s a nearly full pack of toasting marshmallows.
Fortunately I have three grandsons descending on me tomorrow, so I’m hopeful that when they leave on Sunday they will have eaten some and take some away with them.
