Hot water bottles

We had a series of electric undeblankets until a couple of years ago when the hassle and cost of sending them in for 'servicing' became an issue. Reverted to hotties....one each and the occasional bedsocks has been great. Sleeping position: 'spoons with one hottie in his back and the other under his bum with me clamped behind him! TMI? Unfortunately we've been snowed up for the past week and 'my' hottie developed a leak. Slept in the lovely Oodie my granddaughter chose for me but woke up too hot. Bought 3 new hotties from Boots & then a local chemist. Very poor quality. Only one has the floral wheel but the date is 2022. Not sure what that means for usage...even Martin Lewis's article on the subject was unclear. The other 2 were made in China and no floral wheel.... Will be very careful tonight.....!

I just texted my daughter and said now I bed with two hotties she texted back I ve got 3 🤣🤣🤣

Avia, welcome to Gransnet! I have been using my hot bottle often lately. It certainly helps to keep my feet warm. So much nicer to get into bed!

I have recently bought a long thin one and it is wonderful! It takes almost a whole kettle of water and keeps warm for hours. I would really recommend one!

Would that be a safer idea for you, rather than catapulting a full hot water bottle up the stairs? 😳

I like the look of those long hotties but wonder how safe it is to fill them with boiling water.
Someone I know said they use hot water in the bath but surely it wouldn’t be hot enough.

I have a memory foam mattress and was advised not to use an electric blanket as it's body heat which moulds it and an electric blanket would confuse! A good excuse to return to hotties!

... there is a sink in the other upstairs bedroom so i could fill kettle there ( bathroom downstairs).
Well done... YES that would solve the problem of tossing the bottle. Haaaa honestly the things we have to do !!!!!

Serendipity, you need a cross body bag that is big enough to carry your hot water bottle upstairs. If you can't find one, get a handy friend to make one for you. I'm intending to get something like that as I am having problems with my hip.

Thank you for your suggestion, good idea indeed. I can make 1 on my sewing machine... another lady said about kettle upstairs which is also a brilliant idea.

I keep my socks on. Warm feet are an absolute necessity for a decent night's sleep.

I don't trust a bottle filled with hot water so I have a sort of fango pack that I warm up in the microwave.

Are the hot water bottle users looking after their hotties as described in a recent thread we had on the subject? I think I'd better check how often my mud pack needs replacing, too.

The only time I use one is if I have a bad back. Don’t often need them here even though we are in one of the colder parts. The coldest it would get would be about 2C but that is fairly rare. When we went to Denmark we were whinging about how cold it was - 5C in early November.They said it was warmer than usual!! We had to spend the day in a museum, couldn’t cope.

Hubby and I LOVE them! We call them huggie-bots! We have 1 each and when only one of us is in bed we have 2!

Also, out little cat loves to snuggle under the duvet with us and rest against them!

Oooh, I've just changed my bedding from brushed cotton to ordinary cotton. What a change, I definitely need more brushed cotton!
Hot water bottles are my go to, sometimes exchanged with cold water if trying to get over joint pains - hot and cold exchanges help sometimes.
I don't get why about leaving children's socks on for afternoon naps, what's the difference whether on or off?
I sometimes have socks in in bed but can go from one extreme to the other from blocks of ice which shock me if I move and they touch my legs, to being over warm and getting itchy!
I just can't win. But I prefer hot water bottles to electric blankets as I can move them where I want/need them and get nice and cosy!

Electric blanket here, dual control as MrJ doesn’t get cold, so only my side heated.

Love a hot water bottle, from any reason just to keep warm or for soothing my tum when I have flare up of IBS, to which I don’t need meds for but just a lie down with a bottle even if for just 20-30 mins or so, or any aches and pains.
This Christmas I received 3 different types of hottie bottle, one was a long thin one which I requested which lies down across the bottom of the bed, nice and warm all night. Cheap & cheerful way to keep warm

Love a hot water bottle and I have just started with bed socks. Couldn't believe the difference they made. I suppose it's logical when you think about it, cold feet make your blood colder and you get chilled. Warm feet keep you warm.

I like anything that keeps me warm. I love the lavender wheat bags you can warm up

As no man, small children or cats are available as bedwarmers, I use a long hot water bottle with a furry cover and it is lovely; I wrap it round me and it stays warm for a long time. I hang it over my shoulder when I climb the stairs with tablet, (newspaper) book, hot chocolate and whatever else is necessary. Cashmere bed socks are wonderful, but the heels get holes very quickly.

Ohhh love love love my hot water bottle. Its quite funny now because the bedroom is upstairs and i need both hands on both banisters to pull myself up the stairs to bed...... so picture the scene ( 😂🤣😅😆) I stand at the bottom of the stairs and catapult the bottle to the top of the stairs...... hahahahaha....

Please be careful that your hot water bottle doesn't burst or split!
Why not put it into shoulder / tote bag whilst you're going upstairs and using both banisters - you'll still be hands free and won't risk a burst bottle or water spilling.

I have an electric under blanket on the bed, so that my bed is toasty warm when I get into it (no nasty sheet shock), but it's turned off whilst I'm in bed with my bed socks and brushed cotton winter bedding.
I bought a heated throw to snuggle under whilst on the sofa in the evenings - best thing ever 👍.
I've even turned the heating down quite a bit as my heated throw keeps me so warm and comfy I 'heat the human and not the house' (as per Martin Lewis advice).

I recommend silicone hot water bottles to save the horror of a burst rubber one and especially combined with electric blanket. All rubber has a 'shelf life' and easy to not notice when put away for months at a time.

I love a hottie for aches and pains but don't sem to need on since I bought a Night Owl duvet. Can't bear bed socks or any thing on my feet when I'm in bed, they sort of stick to the sheet and I get all tangled up. Guess I'm too much of a fidget for them.

I've just purchased a curved hot water bottle which fits around my aching shoulders, heat lasts much longer than warm in the microwave heat packs. I too switch to brushed cotton duvet covers from.about October to late spring

When I'm working from home (sitting still at a desk for hours on end) I sort a hot water bottle when I'm making my morning tea; then it is on my lap, or behind my back on chilly morning, absolutely lovely.

And snuggled up watching evening TV, keeping my toes warm.

I have 4 or 5 - one long, one curved (shoulders), and a couple of the usual size. Instant warmth.
