WELCOME! The buffet is ready and there is coffee, tea and wine for the sharing of. Make yourselves comfortable. I shall now have my lunch and join you later.

A happy sloth!
It hasn’t stopped raining in Suffolk yet - there’s lots of standing water, overflowing drains etc. They told us this was the driest part of the UK!
WI visit to a cafe this morning, baking this afternoon for tomorrow’s village cafe and Garden Club tonight. Tomorrow it’s said cafe duty, Crafternoon Tea (here) and DGGS’s 2nd birthday. We shall sleep well!
Best wishes to you all, particularly soop.
Love the cake grandmabatty and a very Happy Birthday to your DGS for tomorrow! Also a very Happy Birthday to your DGGS nannytopsy 🎂🎉 🎈
Hope the yoga goes well grannmarie I’ve tried it a couple of times but always found it quite difficult, I think you have to get used to it but it’s very beneficial if you can do it
Well today went nothing like planned. I was all set for the gym first thing when the eye clinic phoned asking if I could go in today for a small operation as they’d had a cancellation. Seen as I’d been on the waiting list for over a year I jumped at the chance and went in this afternoon. So it’s all done now, I’m feeling a bit tired and bruised but otherwise ok. I’ve got stitches that need to be removed in a couple of weeks and in the meantime no swimming or lifting so I’ll be having a wee rest form the gym for a while. We’ve postponed DGDs sleepover tonight too so I can just rest and recuperate.
Hoping soop is feeling a bit better and all other poorly kitcheners too
I hope you are ok Brook. Rest is good.
brook2704 rest and a good recovery.
DH is out, I am currently collapsed on the sofa, the GS’s were good today, a real joy.
Goodness brook, I’m sure you’re pleased it’s been done, now I’m the expert on ‘not doing much’ you can join in.
I hope you make a very speedy recovery 🌻.
Take care Brook at least you didn’t have any time to worry about the operation. Hope the result is good.
Thank you all ❤️
You’re exactly right Scapa1 if I’d have known before today I would have been worrying and getting stressed out so probably best I didn’t know!
I’ll definitely join the not doing much club for a while Jax 😀
brook, great to get your eye op done sooner rather than later, best wishes for your speedy recovery.
Jaxjacky, I like the sound of the ' not doing much ' club.
Grandmabatty and Nannytopsy, happy birthday to your wee boys for tomorrow.
Grannygravy, sounds like a great day with your DGC. Enjoy your relaxing evening.
Sad to say that the yoga was not a great success for me... it was a busy class with lots of young people, some mums and school age daughters, couple of sporty guys... and me and DSis1. I hadn't realised how much kneeling was involved and I still can't weight bear on my wonky right knee. I enjoyed the relaxation time at the end!
I might look on YouTube for beginners yoga for stiffies, get some use out of the brand new yoga mat! 🤣
TOYA, NNGB
I think the beginners yoga is definitely the way to go grannmarie I’d be much happier in a beginners class. Sometimes it’s a bit off putting if everyone else in the class seems to know what they’re doing. Well done for trying though, you never know until you try things. Hope hope you can get some use from your new yoga mat!
Thank you, brook. 🥰
I hope you make a swift & good recovery after your eye op brook. Take it easy, (I've long since belonged to the 'not doing much' group!)
soop, I hope you are soon feeling a little better.
Warm thoughts for you all. x
Glad you got your op Brook and I hope you make a speedy recovery. Knowing my knee op is probably happening in March, but not having a date, is keeping it in my mind. I am constantly aware of it, dreaming about it etc etc. I wish I could just relax and put it out of my mind.
Off to bed - hope you are sleeping well!
Although I have been absent, I have not stopped thinking of you all.
I continue to feel very much out of sorts. About a week ago, I lost my appetite. It was sudden and unexpected, as I always enjoy my food. I have not had a proper meal since. If I drink a cup of tea, the burps kick off in a deafening fashion. I feel queasy and yet, I have no pain, and haven't been sick. I have spoken with the GP. He wonders if one of several meds I have been taking for a long time are at the root of the problem. I've had a hiatus hernia for a some years. The meds that I take have always dealt with acid reflux. Anyway, I'm to start taking some medicine and GP will check with me again early next week.
Knowing that several of our Kitcheners are dealing with serious health issues, I feel guilty for mentioning my problem. When I begin to feel more like my old, perky self, I shall feel more comfortable about returning to enjoy your companionship.
I have only the computer for keeping in touch. No tablet or smart phone thingy.
I am not too far away in thought. I wish to thank Baggs for relaying my message.
TOYA
Hello 👋 Soop and lovely Kitchen people.
Thank you for your update, Soop, we've all been thinking about you. Sorry that you're not feeling better yet, but good to know that your GP is being supportive and trying to find the cause. Can you manage a wee build up drink daily while your appetite is poor? My friend found them quite useful when she was in similar circumstances. I think they were called Ensure? Hoping and praying that you feel more like yourself very soon. Best wishes to you and MrSoop.🥰🙏
Nannytopsy, I hope you get a date for your knee surgery soon, I think the waiting is the worst, especially when you can't stop thinking about it. Take care.
Hello 👋 Gillgran, I think the ' not doing much ' group sounds ideal, I won't feel so guilty now!
Sunny but cold and damp here today. I moved some patio pots around this morning, bulbs are starting to flower, small pleasures! I might continue tidying up the front garden while I stay close to home waiting for a workman... TOYA, I hope Thursday is kind to us all.
How odd soop and very upsetting for you, I hope your GP can sort it out.
Grannmarie chair yoga may be the way to go, I did go to a class, but it stopped running after the first one, there’s lots on YouTube.
Nannytopsy you have my utmost sympathy, the waiting is horrible.
You can see my ‘tanned’ leg here as the bruising comes through.
Oh, that looks sore, Jaxjacky. Maybe try your physio exercises in the swimming pool? I was advised to do that, it was much easier than doing them on dry land cos the water was supportive. Thanks for the chair yoga tip, I'll look out for that on YouTube. 👍
Jaxjacky your leg looks really sore. I really hope it improves quickly for you. Soop it's nice to see you back. I was going to suggest the protein drinks but *Grannmarie beat me to it.
I've had a better day at art class. I felt I wasn't getting any better and became quite despondent, however today I managed a reasonable attempt in my sketchbook of a ballet dancer. I'm planning to do a bigger version, so I'll start it later. Dgs1 is five today. I was with dd when she went into labour. I had just returned from Prague with my dear friend and sil was keeping us informed all the way back from the airport. Dgs1 is the friendliest, kindest, chattiest boy I have ever come across. I'll nip up to see him later with his presents. I hope you enjoy your afternoon kitcheners
Good to see you soop. Please, carry on resting.
Ouch jax. Take it easy, that looks more than sore
Friends have been for coffee and a natter this morning, we’ve eaten lunch, Mr C is nodding off and I’d better move before I do the same
Take care everyone.
Couldn't resist a Kitchen visit - since it's a bit like Emergency Ward 10 today !
Dear Batty - he's the friendliest, kindest, chattiest boy! Why would you be surprised? Takes after his Gran, I should think.
Happy 5th Birthday to a much loved little chap.
Try not to worry too much, NannyT, it's quite exhausting all that pre-op nonsense and sleepless nights. Just gone through a lot of that. DH would tell you, as everyone told him, 'patience, patience and more patience'. He could walk around our dining table completely unaided 5 days after his TKR. It took a year, for it all to resolve, though. Too many people think they can literally run before they can walk and are then despondent because they seem to be getting nowhere fast. But imagine how lovely to have a good knee again. Wishing you all the luck!
Worried about you, Soop. I've had a small hernia half my life. No problems with it, but before Christmas I was flattened with pain and had to resort to Proton Pump thingies. First time. They worked like a charm but only for a very short while before they themselves made me feel rough. I've lost loads of weight and not interested in food for ages. It settled 2 months on and Scans, Tests, have shown that it's a Gall Bladder problem so that's on the list for removal a s a p. Surgeon told me that it would be dreadful to live in France and never have a glass of wine or a piece of cheese because of the threat of another attack! So, surgery is the plan. He said to ring him and it shall be done.
If I sound blasé - well, it's only to cover terror, but I do have some wonderful news. Over a couple of years, I've had to get really angry at my failing sight and the threat of 2 cataracts to be removed. It seems ages since I have slept well and not worried because I am totally Eye Phobic. Because of this, I need to have a general anaesthetic. Yesterday morning, I joined Brook in spirit, and went to have the surgery. Kindness prevailed, every single one of the team was lovely. After putting on some navy paper pyjamas, a matching 'hat', soft slippers and foot covers, I was wheeled to my doom. The Surgeon was waiting along with the team (and the sounds of Al Green singing Let's Stay Together in the background.) Everyone wanted to talk to me, busied themselves until I was made ready and then the Anaesthetist told me to breathe deeply, make Easter plans and think of all the wonderful colours I'd be able to see.
Well, this morning, after a night feeing I had an eye full of sand and just before I used the first of the 6 medications x 3 times a day, I took off the plastic patch and tried hard not to cry. My one eye, used to everything beige and drab and dingy, was suddenly supported by an eye where someone had turned on all the lights and painted the view of my garden in vivid colours. I could see the clock, I could see EVERYTHING. It was a total miracle. I have had the happiest of days after months of misery and worry. The hospital then phoned and were laughing at how upset I sounded at their handiwork!
Next Wednesday, I shall be there again to have the other eye done. With the chance of such a wonderful result, I'd be an idiot to turn down another small miracle. Best wishes for you and your eye, Brook.
Nice legs, Jax but don't think that colour tanning lotion will catch on. With your diagnosis now, hopefully you'll get back to better than normal before too long.
Love to all the regulars, take good care of yourselves. x 🙋♀️ x
Dear Grandma french you have been through the wars, haven't you? I am so glad that you are able to see life in glorious technicolour. Just being careful exercising and no showers until it's healed. I am sorry to hear about your gallbladder trouble though. You also are very complimentary about me and dgs1. 😊 I've posted the sketch of the ballet dancer based on Degas. I'm working hard on drawing people as I'm not very good at it, but this shows some potential (according to my tutor). I'm going to do a larger version which I'll share if it works.
Dear Grandma French, you described exactly the miracle of cataract surgery on my life long lazy eye into which a distance lens was inserted - quite breath taking and wonderful. The second eye, done six months later, was less miraculous but with a close sighted lens means I almost never need glasses, so a double joy. I still rejoice daily at my improved sight twelve years down the line. Modern science is wonderful.
So lovely to have you back with us Grandmafrench and what wonderful news to share! I’m so pleased that your surgery has made such a difference and you can see clearly in technicolour now! Roll on next week 😀
Soop hoping that the new meds help and you’re on the mend soon, take it easy if you can
A very Happy 5th Birthday to your DGS grandmabatty he sounds just so lovely ❤️
That’s a whopping bruise there Jax no wonder it’s so sore - just goes to show how easily these things happen, it could have been any of us
Thank you all for your good wishes after my eye op yesterday. It’s still quite tender and painful and looks quite sore but I’m managing ok. The worst thing is the antibiotic eye ointment which I need to use 3 times a day, makes my vision very blurred for quite a while afterwards, but that’s minor in the big scheme of things
I really like your ballerina drawing grandmabatty well done 👍
GrannySomerset so pleased for you too x
Wow so much going on in the kitchen.
Your knee looks very painful Jax. Lots of rest for you.💐
Brooke Good that you had your eye operation but now time to recover.💐
Lovely to hear from you Grandmafrench, but my goodness you have been in the wars, although the cataract operation sounds a complete success, good luck with other eye.🌹
A very happy Birthday to your DGS Grandmabatty I hope he’s had a wonderful day.
DH is not as breathless and the feet less swollen, the wee tablets are working😀,he’s had lots of blood tests today but I feel its just start of tests and appointments! It obviously needs sorting.
Hope you feel better soon Soop and you will feel like eating again.
Take care everyone,we have torrential rain and strong winds here.
