Pattie Boyd, now 79 is selling her love letters from Eric Clapton.

I feel it’s so sad to have something so personal and once so precious up for auction.

Obviously their relationship was over a long time ago but whilst Eric Clapton is still alive it seems wrong.

Am I too sentimental or do you feel the same?

I wanted to be her too BlueSapphire. I would have settled for being Cathy McGowan as a second choice.

I wanted to be Cathy McGowan too and I love Michael Ball.

Kate1949 Tue 27-Feb-24 20:32:49

Me too kitty. He's lovely.

Where did all those years go? I think it rather sad that she should wish to sell the letters. I always wanted to look like Brigitte Bardot, Jean Shrimpton, Sandie Shaw ………. So many beautiful and charismatic women around at that time. Who did you wish to look/be like?

kittylester Tue 27-Feb-24 20:58:52

Someone thought I was Sandie Shaw once. I think they were hallucinating.

Patsy70 Tue 27-Feb-24 21:03:37

Were you bare foot, Kitty? 😂

Cathy McGowan but my hair wouldn't behave.

Cathy had wonderful hair! Not unlike Claudia now.

Kate1949 Tue 27-Feb-24 21:20:04

Yes the hair!

However glam they were back in the day, they all mostly look what they are now-just old women.

kittylester Tue 27-Feb-24 22:08:17

GREE. And back to my earlier point - Pattie Boyd seems stuck in a time warp.

Years ago, one of my most stylish friends told me that women often remain stuck in the era of their lives when they felt most successful.

*Agree

I think the first photo was airbrushed?

You think?🤣
Had work done, then airbrushed.
Tacky to sell your love letters unless you’re really hard up.

This song from Romeo and Juliet (the movie) puts it perfectly and hearing it sung so emotionally always brings tears to my eyes. 😢
A rose will bloom,
It then will fade
So does a youth.
So does the fairest maid.

Sigh, I always wanted cheekbones like she has!

Iam64 Wed 28-Feb-24 08:11:36

just old women
Wow is that how you see yourself? Just old - insignificant, nothing to offer, absence of joy in life

I may be struggling with my first bone fracture, just before my 75 birthday but I m not ‘just an old woman’

Gwyllt Wed 28-Feb-24 08:20:03

Patti Boyd must have her own reasons for selling. Who are we to criticise her choices

Patsy70 Wed 28-Feb-24 08:32:37

We’re just having a chat Gwyllt, and reminiscing, no harm in that.

No, it isn’t. But then I was never a beautiful rock chick with famous pop stars fighting over me.

And I don’t wear my hair like I did when I was young, in similar make up, which is what so many of them, Patti Boyd, Britt Ekland to name just a couple, seem to try and do, which makes them look every bit of their nearly 80 years, instead of embracing how they really look now, when they wouldn’t look half so ‘sad’.

Kate1949 Wed 28-Feb-24 14:27:01

I think Pattie looks good.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 28-Feb-24 14:27:51

😱

kittylester Wed 28-Feb-24 14:28:41

That was the point I was making, Calendargirl. Sad.

Kate1949 Wed 28-Feb-24 15:01:25

Are they supposed to have a cauliflower perm and wear elasticated slacks? I think most of us find our style and more or less stick to it. Well I have.

BigBertha1 Wed 28-Feb-24 15:57:00

I think she should sell them if she wants to and if she has agreement from the surviving author. I wondered how good his purple prose is, people will pick over the spelling and punctuation as well as the passionate phrases.

kittylester Wed 28-Feb-24 16:46:57

His songwriting is quite good!!

I've just googled Sandie Shaw at 75 - I've worn much better - she said modestly! grin
