Crime Fiction recommendations

JDKirk books starting DI Jack Logan. First book is ‘Liiter of Bones’. Started reading the books but then listened on Audible, narrated by the excellent Angus King. The books are detective stories but very funny with an excellent list of characters.

I have enjoyed the Cormoran Strike crime novels written by British author J. K. Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. The only one I didn't; like was "The Ink Black Hear" which, because of the format and my AMD. I couldn't;t read and which did not transcribe well to Kindle books.

Andrew Raymond - l enjoyed his crime novels. He also writes political/espionage thrillers.

Chris Brookmyre, Lynne McEwan, Lin Anderson, Robert Thorogood, Neil Lancaster are all really good. And I agree that using the Fantastic Fiction website is great for keeping you on track with the order of reading.

Helen Fields, especially the DI Callanach series. Also Brian McGilloway whose novels are set in the border area of Co Tyrone and Co Donegal.

Also M.C. Beaton for her Agatha Raisin and Hamish Macbeth series. The Agatha Raisins are SO much better than the drossy tv series loosely based on them!

I agree, the TV version of Agatha was rubbish. I watched only part of one - the actress was nothing like her.

It was maybe 10 years ago now, but I took several Agatha books across the pond to a sister when she’d just come out of hospital after breast cancer surgery.
Perfect light-relief reading for when she was taking it very easy on the sofa - she thoroughly enjoyed them.

If you feel like venturing across the globe I thoroughly recommend Jane Harper

Has anybody mentioned Aline Templeton and her two Scottish detective series featuring DI Kelso Strang and DI Marjorie Fleming? All excellent reads.
I also enjoyed the DS Alice Rice crime novels by Gillian Galbraith.

So many to choose from, but I enjoy vintage mysteries from the early 20th century. British Library Crime Classics publish a great range. I recently read ‘The Chimney Murder’ by E M Channon and absolutely loved it. Quite gruesome, but very entertaining!

LJ Ross every time, DCI Ryan books all 20 set in Northumberland and Durham, Alexander Gregory 4 books re Clinical psychology crime and 4 Cornwall books with a few new ones about to be released, can t wait

Lindsay Davis - crime around 79AD - some set in England but some all over the Roman Empire

Mick Herron - maybe thriller rather than crime but VERY London based. I can't comment on the TV series that's been made from it as I haven't watched it. I prefer the pictures in my head.

I'm not into crime novels as such but I love historical crime novels such as by C J Sansom or Rory Clements. For a bit of fun the Howard of Warwick novels are highly amusing about a very reluctant monk coerced into being a detective in the time of William.

Peter James’ Roy Grace novels - 19 so far

Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache books set in Quebec are good and Simon Brett’s Charles Parris books are humorous as well which is a bonus.
