I don’t think Starmer is anything like Trump, but I think he’s weak. He’s not a leader, anymore than Sunak is.

That is a big worry for me, I am not sure that POTUS Trump would continue supporting Ukraine and/or NATO to the same degree that POTUS Biden is trying to.

Saying that the rest of the NATO countries have to honour their commitment to 2% of their GDP, which many are not.

I think it's not worth commenting to be honest.
Because Trump is a cult there will be no open discussion with his supporters.

Quite apart from anything else, I find Trump physically repulsive.

Trump does not care about a huge proportion of American citizens, including Native Americans, people of colour and most women. Nor does he care about those on low incomes, if he did he wouldn’t have done his damndest to reverse Obama Care.

You clearly have very strange views and we simply need to agree to disagree. By the way, having opposing views doesn’t make either of us right! So I do not accept your assertion that I’m wrong!

Despite my dislike of Trump, I do think all the countries of NATO should pay their dues. It’s disgraceful that they don’t. How dare they, and then expect the protection of NATO?

It’s because the majority of us keep ourselves informed from various sources about what’s going on in the world, we read the news, and know people who live in USA who are genuinely scared about what Trump is capable of.

When Trump was running the last time, reporters went onto the streets to ask his supporters what he'd have to do for them NOT to support him. It started off minor but when it got to "If he had k1ll3d children, would you still vote for him" and they replied "Yes".
I was dumbfounded.

Trump is a narcissistic, awful excuse for a human being. His supporters are deluded and very often (but not always) not the brightest crayons in the box. He thrives on dividing people and stirring up tension and hate. It has been PROVEN in a court of law that he is a se#ual predator and has paid goodness knows how many millions of pounds in hush money to numerous people. Because he can. He's a terrible excuse for a human and I sincerely hope the American people don't make the same mistakes again.

But there again, many people ARE extremely interested in politics and not just that of their homeland.

I too, whilst I may be a left leaning centralist, am not an ex teacher and I read lots of different news sources.

However, we’re fortunate enough to live in a democracy, where we can express our views and allegiances safely.

Do you think Trump welcomes views which are not strictly aligned with his?

Not being interested in politics doesn’t make you thick Louella, but it makes your point of view much less valid.

Votes count from anybody who casts them, but opinions don’t. It’s exactly the same as me saying I love Gary Glitter because I like his music, and ignoring his reprehensible crimes (obviously I don’t).

It’s not pompous to say Trump is unfit for office, it’s fact, it’s all out there in the public domain for anybody who can be bothered to find out for themselves. It is arrogant though to argue from a position of little interest or knowledge.

Trump is not a patriot, except for the small demented little orange country called Trump. He is an isolationist. He is vain and power-obsessed, and hideously vulnerable to the blandishments of Putin. He is looking to ditch Nato - he calls this "putting American first".
His craven "do what Donald says" Republicans are throwing Ukraine under a bus - and why? "because it's a long way away". FFS.

If there are public demonstrations when he's elected, Trump is the kind of man who would seriously consider imposing some kind of martial law in the USA - a dictatorship. Putin-style.

But don't forget that only a minority of Americans are registered to vote in the primaries - there is still hope.

People don't have to be interested in politics and being "thick" (your words, not mine) doesn't negate one from voting for a good person. But apathy towards politics and voting DOES weaken your argument when someone states they're voting for someone because they like their hair, forgetting the awful things they've done and they "can't be bothered" to find someone who might just be better.

Many years ago, I saw Gary Glitter in concert (I was a support worker at the time and unexpectedly found myself accompanying someone to his gig!).. It was at the old Wembley and it was amazing! He had a Harley on the stage and everything. A real showman. Just like Trump. And obviously now known as an awful human being. Just like Trump.

Most of his previous 'entourage' have nothing good to say about him and a few have/are/waiting for , prison sentences.

I don’t like Trump, nor do I think he’s fit for office.
However, I do respectfully disagree with Urmstongran. She’s a long time member of Gransnet and I don’t like to see disrespectful posts to her. Additionally I think she’s a well liked member on here and newer members should accept that. They don’t have to accept her views, or anyone else’s.

Apart from when he is spouting parrot-fashion his from his mental play-list of favourite rabble-rousing and opponent-bashing phrases, Trump seems unable to string together a coherent string of words.

Nor does he seem capable of reasoned thinking before speaking, instead just blurting out the first insult that comes to his lips when faced with something he doesn't like.
As for the truth, I am not sure that he even understands what that word means, but if he does, he clearly doesn't think it is something that applies to him.

On the face of it, that makes him sound a lot like Boris Johnson, but much as I despised him as PM, I think he was just a bumbling, self-serving buffoon, whereas I honestly think that Trump is unhinged and extremely dangerous in a position of such power.

Honestly, I am finding it increasingly hard to understand how anyone with an ounce of intelligence can think otherwise where Trump is concerned.
