I’m just thankful it wasn’t Harry and Meghan who published an edited photo. Gransnet might have crashed with the deluge of posts 😀

The pictures have been created or doctored by AI and it's not a true representation. Look at the ads for phone cameras where the photos show people looking in different directions but at the click of a button the faces are all looking at the camera but the bodies haven't moved. These AI manipulated pictures look so fake and the ones created by AI are even worse and misleading. I'm surprised the picture was released -it creates more speculation than it clears

What a preposterous fuss about nothing - this isn't a photo being used in evidence for legal proceedings, and if the Princess of Wales has tinkered with the photo to improve it, does that pass the 'So what' test? I think it does.

I think some of you are missing the point.

I’m a monarchist and the one constant during the late Queen’s reign was trust.

Charles knows this and has given enough information about his condition to reassure people to the extent that we trust the reports and updates.

William and Catherine are the future of the monarchy but if they want it to survive for George they will need people to trust them. Without the taxpayer they wouldn’t be in their exalted position.
If there’s one sure thing that damages anyone’s image it’s hypocrisy.

Has anyone never been tempted to photoshop their own photos. We have a lovely family photo but I photoshopped out the roll of blubber round my middle.

Unfortunately there are very tight rules about photos being photoshopped before they are released for the general public and you can see why it’s so necessary, and so important
If there was no such rule you could get a picture photoshopped to make it look as if someone was stealing something when they were just walking past or a bomb dropping when it hadn’t so they HAVE to have one rule and it doesn’t matter if it is only a hand ( and why???) it has to be a blanket rule

The senior Royals have Communications Secretaries. Lee Thompson was appointed to the role by the Prince and Princess of Wales in 2022. It is part of his job to ensure that anything released by the couple meets press standards and on this occasion it did not.

The photo infringed Associated Press rules that:

The content of a photograph must not be altered in PhotoShop or by any other means. No element should be digitally added to or subtracted from any photograph ... Only retouching or the use of the cloning tool to eliminate dust and scratches are acceptable.

It’s evident that the Princess did more than that. One can argue that she would not be familar with AP rules but her Communications Secretary and his office certainly should be. They were either careless on this occasion or the Princess bypassed them.

A mistake and a lesson learned.

I think that whatever the health issue is, it is a private matter. I do however, compare the PR machines of Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace. BP issued a statement about the King's health, and all wished him well and appreciated his openness and subsequent light duties. Compare the effective new blackout from KP. Yes, they are entitled to their private life, yes William will want to spend more time with his family, but are we really to believe that due to his wife's post operative recovery that he is going to Sainsbury's, taking the children to after school activities? I wish them all well, but please don't take us for fools, this photograph was a PR disaster, and the photo agencies were correct to reject them as they have to protect their professional credibility.

Yes, it all comes down to trust.

Some people trust no one.

Some people continually trust every one, and every thing.

Some think trust has to be earned.
Personally I would say that up to now, William and Kate have barely put a foot wrong in that regard. Or not at all.
But something feels a bit off with all of this. To me. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe it will all blow over quickly.

Fair enough, but what a shame her PR staff, who would have been aware of the restrictions around edited photos, didn't say anything beforehand.

Your faith is whatever the RF tell you is charming Annie, but please don't let it blind you to what others are trying to say. I have no issue at all with their desire to keep the PoW health matters private, but if you look at my original post, I was contrasting this with the information (and thanks) coming out of Buckingham Palace. This photo has made what was a rumbling problem become even more of one, has fired up the conspiracy theories (not my concern, or interest), and as such was a mistake.

Faith has nothing to do with it, a woman has surgery, doesn’t wish for details to be made public, media and some people in a frenzy, we demand to know all , a woman doesn’t wear her wedding band shock horror.

It’s possible that she thought the photo might put an end to the intrusive questions about her health and her operation.
IMO, Bad move on her part, but the constant nosiness disguised as concern is equally unacceptable.
