The whole heredity titles shebang is a complete load of nonsense when you think about it. I wish the individuals in the RF no harm, but the whole circus is indefensible. People like them because they like to gawp and gossip. The trolls and the media are having a field day - I’m more comfortable with them concentrating on the likes of the Kardashians who have chosen to be in the public eye.

I think people partly like them because it helps give a country stability.
In certain times and uncertain ones.
I cant quite describe how it does, but it does seem to.

That's the issue. Choosing to be in the public eye or, like a senior Royal, being born into a situation where your every move is scrutinised and published on the WWW and having no way out of it. Those poor little Wales children have it all before them.

I’m not sure the stability of a country depends on having a monarchy. I can think of several countries with a royal family I wouldn’t describe as stable, and several republics which seem stable. Doesn’t seem to correlate.

I wouldnt say anything usually, but this is the 3rd time in a wekk that I seem to have been partially misquoted or partially misunderstood.
And every time, concerning speaking about a Royal Family.

A Royal Family alone, isnt a total answer to a country's stability.

I agree that it helps fancythat. I was shocked at how much the death of the Queen genuinely upset me, as did the news that Catherine is having treatment for cancer.

I don't think it materially gives any stability - but what it does do is give that sense of stability.

And it is hard to describe. But, even as a republican, I found it quite 'comforting' (if that's the right word) that the late Queen was always there, in the background, stoically doing what she considered her duty regardless of what was going on around us and in the rest of the world. Maybe it's that sense of 'continuity' and an ordered life which gives one a feeling of security.

I don't really know how to explain it because it's not really logical, but whatever it is, I'm not immune to it.

I've said why I prefer a Monarchy to a Republic and it is certainly not to gawp and gossip. Many people feel the same, I am sure.
That is objectionable.

I take your point about the trashy Kardashians though, they have nothing to offer but their sensationalist lives (I have a vague idea who they are, don't their names all begin with K?).

Not quite. We chopped off the king's head in 1649 and became a Commonwealth for a short time. We invited them back but got rid of them again in favour of a Dutch protestant line in what was known as the Glorious Revolution 1688. Then when Queen Anne died without an heir we imported the German Elector of Hanover as king in 1714. So in fact the British RF hasn't a long history and isn't really British.

It was a reply to someone who obviously didn't, but thanks for the comment.
I'd dispute the "British on the whole" concept. The monarchy was (and still is) largely supported by the aristocracy and the monied. The number of revolts, rebellions, demonstrations and assassination attempts tell quite a different story.

There is stability and continuity with the royal family as with our families, politicians come and go , the late queen 70 years
with 15 prime ministers. People look at little Charlotte and say
‘She looks like her great grandmother’
