How do you acknowledge Easter.

Not religious and I hate bank holidays. If I could afford it I would go away on holiday.

Grand kids are away and I always give them money instead of chocolate. Might design a sweater this afternoon and sort through the stash for knitting it.

Just another weekend for us. That said we always enjoy fish & chips from the chippy down in the square. On GF’s the queue is out of the door they are so good, constantly frying. As I only have to bring them up in the lift they are always still very hot and with salt and vinegar, totally delicious.

We do buy Easter eggs (and a book each) for our two grandchildren.

This made me laugh as I love a Lindt bunny straight from the fridge!

I’m not a church goer but, as with Christmas, I like to connect to Easter with music. Bach’s Easter Oratorio, his St Matthew Passion, Stanford’s Stabat Mater……. and of course favourite Easter hymns from school days. A feast for the soul.

I don’t like hot cross buns or Simnel cake or chocolate but I buy eggs for GC I don’t want them to feel left out. I have no interest in religion being forced to go to church as a youngster probably created my rebellion.

Do not acknowledge Easter other than giving GDs an egg.
Hate hot cross buns and dislike Simnel cake.
Television will be rubbish all weekend.

I prefer to recognise the beginning of spring rather than any religious connotations, as a non-believer now.

We will have hot cross buns and an Easter egg and nothing else but a delicious roast lamb dinner on Sunday.

Thank you crazyH I knew about the no meat on Fridays, I just wondered about the male/female division.

Our local Baptist church sent a personal invitation via a beautiful card and creme eggs to every house in this new housing estate inviting us to an egg huny, bacon rolls and a joyful service on Easter Sunday so we shall go to that.

I still don’t really understand don’t eat animal meat (which isn’t human flesh) but we eat eggs which kills a baby chick !
( I m a vegi anyway but just interested)

I shan't go to church, but I will acknowledge the event by having a special dinner on Sunday and watching Songs of Praise.

Church today (Good Friday) then again on Sunday. I’ve only bought Easter eggs for our youngest granddaughter aged 5 this time. I think not eating meat on Good Friday is because Jesus gave his flesh for us and died. Good Friday is a remembrance of that day. An old custom. We are having the youngest daughter and granddaughter round for lunch tomorrow but a quiet weekend otherwise.

Will go to the allotment if it’s not raining ….

Jaxjacky - because I don’t eat meat on Fridays (my mother was a devoted Catholic) and it so happens that d.i.l. and her mother also prefer fish . My son and his f.i.l. prefer meat. I hope that answers your question…. bit complicated and extra work for d.i.l. who will be doing the cooking 😂
P.S. Catholics don’t usually eat meat on Fridays because Jesus was crucified on a Friday (a belief).

I have been invited to Sunday lunch by my son’s in-laws.
( There will be roast lamb. A first, and a very kind gesture, now I am on my own. The grandchildren, young adults, will be there. My grandson’s girlfriend expressed surprise that her boyfriend was not available as it is a family day. She asked’Why? what is Easter’ to everyone’s surprise, but then we are all Christians, even though the younger ones no longer practise.
I have given up on Easter eggs, but I had better buy some chocolates or something.

No meat tomorrow, just a very simple meal of potatoes and vegetables. Sunday will be an outdoor church service at sunrise. Later we will take our oiled eggs and roll them on a local grassy slope. Fancy dinner on Monday.

Day out shopping with my DD on Friday.... Little egg hunt for my 3 GD on Sunday and a family roast dinner cooked by DD and SIL ...but just nice to be off work rest of time...nothing to do....and all day to do it

Church tonight with Holy Communion (Maundy Thursday) and at my son’s tomorrow for home made hot cross buns (he makes them, I only ever buy them) then tomorrow evening going to the theatre for see Jesus Christ Superstar, one of my favourite musicals. My husband isn’t going and I’m going with our son, his partner, and my grandson. DH is dog sitting! Saturday we’re out with our other son and his wife for Thai food - my birthday present from them (birthday was last week.) Easter Sunday will be church in the morning and then both sons and families are coming for traditional roast lamb and Simnel cake. At some point we’ll speak to our daughter and grandchildren in New Zealand. We left Easter eggs for them when we were there recently, as the eggs were already in the shops with Easter being early this year. We also left chocolates for our daughter. We’ll give an egg to each couple (between them) and an Easter egg to our grandson. This morning a parcel arrived from our daughter (Moonpig) with chocolates (see picture) and a gorgeous card. Inside our six year old grandson had written the Easter story, in which he declared that after Mary discovered Jesus was gone from the toom (tomb) she fainted and the apostles had a cup of tea - who knew?

My Easter plans have been changed because of the death of a good friend's brother. She is from a large family, lives in another province, but her brother who lives in town died last week and the funeral will be on Easter Sunday at 2pm, with a gathering from 3-5. I found this very odd, especially for Catholics, but the fellow that died was very good friends with the priest, so allowances were made.

She and her DH will stay with other family here, but we will host two of her daughters, and 4 granchildren, and their dog at our house since we have extra bedrooms.

I couldn't find any way to host my family for dinner or lunch, so have postponed it.

But since we will have visiting children, I think I will have a little egg hunt in the back yard for the visiting children plus my own grandchildren, and serve the adults coffee and treats, but not a full on brunch.

I was disappointed since we have a 2 week old new grandson, and it would be our first family dinner all together, but hey-ho, roll with it, and the grieving family is now the focus, with love and understanding.

CrazyH may I ask why the men are eating lamb and the women fish?

I enjoy Easter, as others have said it's less stressful than Christmas and means Spring is around the corner.

I don't remember Easter cards being a thing when I was a child, but my mum and aunties adopted the custom later. One stressful year as a working single mum I decided not to bother with the commercial Easter card exchange. Mum was most upset declaring "no Easter cards!" I hadn’t realised how important this was to her, so always sent one after that. Such a small thing to make her happy.

Both DS1 & 2 and partners here on Sunday for roast lamb, Easter egg exchange and daft Easter egg hunt (all over 30 years old now!)

I’ll be going to DD’s for hot cross buns and coffee tomorrow morning. Her in-laws will be arriving later so I shall make myself scarce until Sunday Lunch when we will have roast lamb and swap Easter eggs.

I have my fingers crossed for some decent gardening weather on Saturday and Monday..

Ps to my earlier post. Every year I make a traditional Simnel cake for the DDs.

It has become like mini Christmas hasn't it with cards and gifts but hopefully better weather. I don't do either.

Painted real boiled eggs for breakfast. Egg rolling down Arthur's seat was a popular tradition when we lived in Edinburgh.

2 of my DGC are coming tomorrow for the weekend. We may make cupcakes. They don't eat Simnel cake though I love it.
