Cannot stand Vine. He's divisive, stirs people up without even thinking. Dont even get me started on Egg Heads where he comes across as a patronising burk. Stopped watching that because of his attitude towards the competitors. He poses the most ridiculous questions, and must be one of the most disliked people on TV. Not to mention the streets of London.

I was watching that conversation yesterday and turned it off.
That silly young woman wittering on about how easy we had it back in the day.
Apparently we have always had low interest rates so we practically had our houses given to us! She needed to do a little bit more research I think.
I rarely watch morning TV and JV has such a condescending voice… I had to throw that in just in case you all thought that I spend my life watching him🤦🏼‍♀️

I haven't really watched JV, I gather he's irritating. There was a time when I watched MW, and enjoyed the show, but he could be a bit weird and overly grouchy at times, nevertheless he was ousted from his own show for the most spurious of reasons, of which I can't remember the finer detail now.

I'm a bit ignorant about Generation Whatever, this is something I find myself asking my children how they're defined in that respect. I know I'm a Boomer, part of the bad lot demographic Personally I don't like the cranking up of what I perceive to be inter- generational grudges. I do remember, with much amusement I might add, a comment on MN an irate 30 something I believe, complaining about older people cluttering up the high street on Saturdays, when they've had all week to do that I was kind of this and this in equal measures.

I used to watch when it was Matthew Wright and quite enjoyed it.
Rarely watch it now, but if I do happen upon it I am amazed by the stupidity and ignorance of some of the quests. But I suppose they have to be at that level so as not to show up JV!!

Never liked JV. Prefer his brother. Tries to be outrageous and populist. People are people and it is dreadful that sections are set against each other by the media.

I was born the same year as mr twit i don’t call myself a gen x etc I call myself me does it matter when you were born. The younger ones slat us for having it easier etc but didn’t we do the same thing when we were in our 20s with our grandparents.

Never seen his show or listened to him but very much missing 'Eggheads' on Channel5 and can't find any information as to when the 2024 series will be on.

But....(there's always a 'but' isn't there? ) I do have my own theory, which may of course also be a load of old tosh, that we "boomers" born what seemed like ages after the end of the war but as time marches on, not really so long, were so intent on giving our kids everything we didn't have. Let's not forget rationing didn't end until 1954 so things we still tough for years after the war. We saw a rise in consumerism, easier availability of goods via Hire Purchase and then credit cards and so forth. Mass TV & radio advertising. I think my children's generation (mine are mid 40's) are way more entitled than those who went before.

I like the Jeremy Vine show - his job is to stir everyone up to make a discussion out of it.
I also enjoyed the show when it was Matthew Wright but he used to get really annoyed if he didn’t agree with the people who phoned up so think JV makes a better host. Matthew Wright left cause he said he was fed up with doing the early start for years. (Perhaps they had to get there really early to start the show at 9.15?)
Most of the posters here seem to know a lot about the programme considering most don’t seem to like it. 😆

Stopped watching, not just because I don't like J.V., but the often screeching women shouting over the top of anyone else's views. Never watch Loose Women either for the same reason!
Anyway re names - there will always be a group of people named something or other - Mods and Rockers come to mind, Hells Angels for bikers.

Pedant alert. My GCs think they are Generation Zed not Zee (American I think). I don't believe people should be classified in this way.
We are all so different it's wrong to group us and claim everyone in that particular generation shares certain characteristics often negative ones.

There's far less 'bile' about JV on this thread than he lets loose about 'Boomers', Barbadosbelle, but of course if you've never seen the show you won't be aware of that.

I know what you mean, ferry23, and I'm not shouting you down, but as someone born in 1959 (supposedly a Generation Jones, or a Boomer 2) I think that the 1st generation 'Boomers' had a very different experience from mine - grammar schools, low house prices (compared to those in the late 70s/80s), low interest rates when buying, then high when saving, free university for their children etc. I find it idiotic to suggest that people born across a 20 year span share an outlook and had the same experience. I also think that the 'generations' view takes no account of things like sex, class or geography. To generalise wildly, it is foolish to suggest that a middle class man in Hampstead has the same lifestyle as a working class woman in Toxteth. Of course they don't (or are unlikely to).

As for entitlement, that's what Millennials say about us . We see ourselves as entitled to live in the houses we've paid for and draw the pensions we contributed to. Shocking, isn't it?

As you say, originally for marketing purposes which makes sense as they needed a shorter way to refer to each generation. As regards Gen Z being lazy ………. A few years running I joined the Christmas recruitment team with Royal Mail. We processed all the recruitment paperwork for the extra staff taken on at the sorting offices all over the country. The role was office based of course and we had targets to reach each day, usually the number of ‘packs’ you had processed. There were about 25,000 to complete over 8 weeks. As there were many immigrants, with temporary and permanent visas applying, we had to be very vigilant and accurate in our processing. Huge fines for Royal Mail if we recruited someone without the proper right to work documentation. People on the team were a mix of all ages but perhaps leaning more towards those around retirement age. Each year our Christmas team became younger and younger. The last year I was with them just before lockdown there were so many more younger ones. They had to be constantly pulled up for not pulling their weight. They’d take smoking breaks every hour, not bother turning up for work at all if they’d been out the night before, frequently late because ‘their alarm didn’t go off’, but the most shocking to me was that they thought it perfectly acceptable to scroll on their phones, texting, etc even though they were told that mobiles were only allowed on your desk in exceptional cases. So between their constant chattering, their texting and their smoking breaks the only way to hit their daily target was to fly through the checking process without really checking. I was tasked with auditing their work and the mistakes I found were horrendous! In total they had the potential to cost Royal Mail £310,000 being a £10,000 fine per employee without the right to work. One lad had put a guy through on the strength of having an old style visa stamped into a 1978 passport!!! You had to assume he had not heard one single solitary word of the instructions at the induction. He was also incredibly blasé about it when it was pointed out to him. Where is their work ethic? They seem to want a reward just for getting out of bed!

I thought he left because his wife was pregnant and he wanted to spend more time with her? He spent years looking down on ‘breeders’ and then had a kid. A bit hypocritical.
