What is the best, most comfortable material to have, please?

I have a quilt cover on at the moment that seems to smell of feet after a day or too!

I have no idea why, so can only assume it's the material.

It needs to go!!!

MissAdventure Thu 11-Apr-24 15:26:40

Two!!!!!!

I like cotton, but then I don't mind ironing!

tanith Thu 11-Apr-24 15:49:03

I prefer cotton mix, no ironing of bedding in this house. 😅

Callistemon21 Thu 11-Apr-24 15:49:32

Ours are mostly cotton but we use a top sheet as well as a bottom.
It's changing a duvet cover weekly that I find hard work now, sheets are much easier.

Dorma cotton. Boring but smooth and comfy.

Yes I use a top sheet as well, also helps if I am too hot, I can turn back the duvet but still have a light covering.

Cotton best quality I can afford
Never ironed a sheet or duvet cover ever

That's the exact thing for me, I think. smile

It's really complicated when you start looking.

Egyptian cotton is good, so I've read, but one with the lowest thread count.

Callistemon21 Thu 11-Apr-24 16:26:10

The best sheets I bought were Jasper Conran cotton but they don't seem to do them any more in the colour I want.
Debenhams sold them.

Pantglas2 Thu 11-Apr-24 16:31:34

White Egyptian cotton for me all summer and flannelette for winter.

If you whip them out on the line immediately, pull them taut and fold tidily when dry they don’t need ironing.

Oh thanks, Pantglas
I really can't physically manage any more than really basic stuff indoors, for now.

I don't want "an ironing pile" building up.

Astitchintime Thu 11-Apr-24 16:49:13

Either 100% cotton or poly/cotton mix - but got to be good quality - for us. We also have a cotton sheet under the duvet. Used to iron all the bedding but after realising that it was just as creased after one nights use I saw sense and don't bother now - Life is far too short for ironing anything but the absolute essentials.

MissAdventure Thu 11-Apr-24 16:51:43

Right.
Polycotton.
Thank you.

I keep seeing things described as cotton blend, but I didn't know what it was blended with.

If you must iron, just iron the top bit of the top sheet and pillowcases. Nothing else shows.
The bottom sheet stretches anyway.

I quite fancy the tousled, creased, look. smile

Norah Thu 11-Apr-24 17:12:30

We've top and bottom sheets, a duvet, a bedspread covering all.

MissAdventure Thu 11-Apr-24 17:15:28

I've given up on my lovely bedspread.
I have carers in the mornings, and I'm not sure they'd know what to do with it.

Its crocheted, and it would end up tangled around my bed frame, and pulled, I think.

Primrose53 Thu 11-Apr-24 17:17:42

I buy non iron. At the moment I have brushed cotton duvet cover with birds all over it with matching pillowcases. This isn’t non iron but if I get it out on the washing line straight after washing and it gets a good blow I can get away without ironing.

Worst duvet set I bought was Kirstie Allsop because it needed loads of ironing and it faded dreadfully and it is the only set I have ever used that wore thin.

In that case you need either the waffle or seersucker type fabrics!

Rosie51 Thu 11-Apr-24 17:39:41

I iron most bedding but not the pure cotton waffle duvet set. It looks fine without ironing, nobody sees the smooth side that goes to your skin. If you opt for that just remember to turn the pillowcase to the smooth side when you sleep or you wake up with a fetching indented design on your cheek! grin

MissAdventure Thu 11-Apr-24 17:50:21

Thank you all.

This is really helpful.

Yours truly,

Ms. Foot-Stinker.

If you like warmth I can highly recommend fleece bedding. I have a fleece duvet set on my bed at the moment. DH bought it and I didn't think I'd like it but it is oh so snuggly. Washes at 30° and tumble dries. Non iron. Absolutely divine.

MissAdventure Thu 11-Apr-24 17:56:16

Oh I usually have my backside hanging out the bed, trying to cool down.
I have been told the fleece ones are really, really comfy, though.

OldFrill Thu 11-Apr-24 17:59:30

Maybe it's reacting with your washing detergent, just a thought. Or maybe it needs a hotter wash.
