I have eventually cleaned the fridge!!!
It has been on the list since Christmas. I honestly don't remember the last time I did it thoroughly rather than just the sticky bits.

I might even deserve a medal - maybe 'Slut of the Year'?

It oven is my bugbear

I wait until I am having a miserable day and then justify feeling martyred by cleaning out the fridge or the oven or the inside of the windows. Never all in the same month, mind you.

annodomini Thu 18-Apr-24 19:20:13

I didn't actually clean it last weekend, but I did clear out a lot of unused (not to mention unusable) veg with which I made surprisingly satisfactory 'fridge-bottom' soup, to which I added some dried herbs and judiciously chosen spices. My very wonderful DGD recently cleaned it for me.

👏 👏. I've just half cleaned the oven

grannyqueenie Thu 18-Apr-24 19:24:44

If anyone wants to hone their cleaning skills then my oven door badly needs attention. I keep meaning to look at the instructions, it needs to be taken apart to do it..…don’t all rush at once..! grin

Very well done 👏! Did you find any of those mysterious bits of polythene filled with green pond like mush? Or is it only me?

annodomini Thu 18-Apr-24 20:28:57

HousePlantQueen : Now you come to mention it, I've been trying to ignore those mysterious packets of 'green pond-like mush'. Perhaps they should be donated to the nearest university in case they have medical potential.

Took the easier option and moved house in October 2023 to a brand new clean fridge.

Ooh Kitty, you’re showing us all up.
Have to say though, DH actually cleaned mine a couple of days ago. Couldn’t believe he’d put the shelves etc. in the dishwasher. I started flapping explaining it’s a no no, but to my surprise, everything came out fine. 😃

I bought one of those fridges that doesn't need defrosting, for some reason it's lodged in my mind that that means doesn't need cleaning except for accidental spills.

Best money I ever spent was on Getting A Man In to clean the oven. Ages ago now though - it’s really ancient so I keep thinking it’ll pack up soon and I’ll need a new one anyway….

Witzend Sun 21-Apr-24 11:38:58

Should have added, a colleague’s sister just couldn’t be bothered with cleaning her long-overdue for it oven, so she bought a new one!
I have to admit I like her style…

Etoile2701 Sun 21-Apr-24 11:43:41

I don't think I have EVER cleaned my fridge, so I must be the slut of the century!

CaroleAnne Sun 21-Apr-24 11:44:38

Well done Kitty Leicester and all who follow her!! I must confess that I am one who only cleans her fridge when really necessary or if I have had a spillage. You have started me thinking. I may or may not clean it more frequently. Keep up the good work everyone!!

Chaze58 Sun 21-Apr-24 11:47:15

Oh I love this post. I too am a domestic slut. Absolutely hate housework of any kind. I work full time standing 8 hours a day and just love to laze about at the weekends (as DH does)
I hate the guilt trip some people give me when they talk about spring cleaning from top to bottom.😡 My Mother was do houseproud she hoovered teice a day and hated visitors in case they messed up her tidy house. maybe that's why I rebelled and now live as happy as a pig in sh** 🤣

Get an air fryer - they are really easy I clean mine every day. I put the inner trays and rubber bits in the dishwasher. I soak the drawers with hot water and washing up liquid and then wipe them after dinner. I do need to clean my fridge though. And everything else.

I told my husband very early on that he can have either a domestic goddess or a sex goddess.

He made his choice (can you guess)? 🤔😉

I don’t clean windows. Used to, but why bother when a couple of days later we get some sort of dust storm?

grandtanteJE65 Sun 21-Apr-24 12:30:04

I have just cleaned the bath! Does that count?

I have been putting it off for months, pleading a sore back and shoulder.

Having worked in professional kitchens in my young days, neither cleaning the oven nor the fridge bother me. Both are regularly cleaned but the bath-tub? A completely different matter.

My daughter came for weekend and cleaned mine . Perhaps she was frightened they would catch something if she didn't
???

Purplepixie Sun 21-Apr-24 12:32:21

HAHA! Can you come and do mine please?

Blinko Sun 21-Apr-24 12:32:24

I, too, took the easy way out last Autumn and bought a fridge freezer that doesn't require defrosting. Life's too short...

mabon1 Sun 21-Apr-24 12:44:16

So do I have been doing for decades.

Betty18 Sun 21-Apr-24 12:55:46

Just done mine after WEEKS /MONTHS of neglect. Go me! Now dare I mention ….oven ?

gulligranny Sun 21-Apr-24 12:58:27

I had cataract surgery last April and the other eye done last week. It's a revelation on how much grot I can now see, but hasn't really spurred me to action. The fridge is only 2 years old so clearly doesn't need cleaning yet, but I suppose I ought to defrost the freezer, which could probably house quite a few of Santa's little helpers hidden in the ice ...

Once it's done I expect the glow from my halo to light up at least a small town for a few days.
