Sick of celebrities

Does anyone on GN get a huge bright red 1/2 page where an ad should be? Im getting this all the time. It must be GN as it happens nowhere else

I find the cult of so called celebrities so tiresome.My husband hates them even more than I do. Why do we have to be bombarded by programmes with these people all the time.Most have very little talent, lead promiscuous lives and have been promoted well above their ability.I do not care about them and wish they and their so called dramas would disappear.

Yes Jenny, I get a very disruptive ad from Jet2.com - only on GN. No idea why, or how to stop it. Hav3 never visited their website.

I haven’t heard of the majority of so called ‘ celebrities ‘. So many of the reality tv show participants are quickly elevated to this level, not having done much to be celebrated. As for the
‘ influencers ‘. That’s another topic though.

On the same vein, I hope, I get sick of very smug celebrities doing travel programmes, it's like 'look where I can be and you can't' because the TV programme pays for it!

Although Michael does look as if he has a bit of a tan sometimes but it could be his Spanish heritage.

I haven't bought a newspaper for years. I catch the headlines from my phone and watch the 6o'clock news. Radio 4 has the most enlightening, interesting and informative programmes. BBC sounds and podcasts is where I keep up with what's going on in the world

I do think the Daily Mail leads the way in celebrity articles. It's overwhelming now, with endless pictures of celebs in very revealing bikinis plastered all over the side ribbon and on a video screen so you can't get away from them! The most important thing on their home screen seems to be that they've found a picture of someone who looks good in a bikini and is flaunting her assets.

It's a shame because if you navigate away from the home page to the other tabs there are some very interesting articles, science, travel, health, technology, money. It's not all bad.

It’s the trout pouts which I can’t stand. 🙄 Why do people want to look so plastic (not just the so called celebrities)? I suppose it’s the fault of the beauty industry. Makes you wonder what they’ll look like when they’re older! Big lips but sagging everywhere else! 😂

Wouldn't ever buy one - why put my little bit of money into the pockets of the media moguls? Very little they print is to be trusted because they are following the agenda - however subtle - of the person who owns the paper. If we stop buying these rags they will go out of print - end of.

I think it started with The Osbornes letting the camera into their homes- I never could understand what the lure was. Maybe it started earlier, but I know that's when I began to notice people talking about it.

What really gets me (I don't buy newspapers) is even the on-line news has wind-up headlines about the death and destruction in various parts of the planet and then follows this with an item about Taylor Swift and her clothes. The world must be ok then, if this 'news' is considered important.

I think reality TV started with a programme called 'Fly on the Wall' in the 70s Keepingquiet. Many were horrified by the concept!

I subscribe to an online newspaper. A one I consider fairly decent even if I don’t always agree with its POV. It has a fair smattering of celebrity news which I rarely more than glance at before complaining in its comments section, along with many other subscribers, that these articles exist at all there. I buy a newspaper for news and informed opinion not for rubbish about ‘celebrities’ in whose lives I couldn’t be less interested.

Be very careful what you wish for!

I really don't think you want the newspapers to out of business because then we will be left with the wild west of online news, well known for its fakery, and this will get much worse with the advent of AI which can totally manipulate the truth.

We need newspapers more than ever because they do have to abide by certain regulations which the online news sources definitely don't. And as long as we have a variety of newspapers we know that the truth lies somewhere in the middle. For all their faults they are very precious.

I read bits of The Guardian online, but really dislike that they do not support women's choices and spaces. Two good women columnists gone because of it, so awful.
Most of my news is from Private Eye, especially stuff that some don't want you to know about.

I detest the DM would not read it at any price! It embodies every political opinion I abhor so this is yet another reason to avoid like the plague!

Not snobbish and superior at all! I glimpse the odd headline on line and in newsagents, and realise it’s a right wing racist rag with an over-reliance on ‘slebs’. The ‘I’ is pretty well neutral and has some excellent articles. I read CNN on line as well as Fox News, so that’s a pretty good range of views. I also read the Sydney Morning Herald on line as I have several family members living in Australia. The DM, though is in entirely a class of its own. Just to rub up GSM a bit more - I was accidentally delivered a DM and put it straight in the outside bin.
