Brioche buns for burgers

Talking of sweet and savoury, I love marmalade on my toast with bacon & eggs. Even better, marmalade spread on fried bread, now that is a real treat!

Couldn’t agree more with ‘ljustwantpeace’ only ever tasted a brioche once, and thought them nothing special. However the idea of pairing them with a burger yuk! I can see no reason to introduce a burger, homemade jam or marmalade maybe but a beef burger nahhh. As for not giving customers the choice unforgivable

I like brioche buns with burgers and brioche rolls with hot dogs - delicious! The kids like them too - not so much chewing

All to do with personal taste! Who thought that roast lamb with mint or redcurrant jelly, mackerel with gooseberry sauce, pork with apple sauce etc would be a ‘thing’!? All delicious but odd if you think of it! I’m all for upping the ante a bit and trying new flavour combinations. Food can be rather dull without a few changes!

What is a brioche bun actually made of ingredients wise please? I have no idea.

Traditional brioche didn't often have sugar but burger buns definitely do.

Flour, lots of eggs and butter, milk and/or cream... and they are feasted (like bread).

This is what is in Tesco's:
Wheat Flour [Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin, Thiamin], Water, Sugar, Rapeseed Oil, Pasteurised Egg (1.5%), Palm Oil, Dextrose, Spirit Vinegar, Yeast, Wheat Fibre, Fermented Wheat Flour, Salt, Butter (Milk), Flavouring, Soya Flour, Pasteurised Egg White, Emulsifier (Mono- and Diacetyl Tartaric Acid Esters of Mono- and Diglycerides of Fatty Acids), Colour (Algal Carotenes), Flour Treatment Agent (Ascorbic Acid).

*yeasted - not "feasted!"

I hate brioche buns when used for burgers! Brioche is sweet. Burgers are savoury. Most restaurants don’t give you a choice and I rarely eat burgers at home and now can’t have one out either. I’ve even considered taking my own white roll with me. Who thought up this abomination of cuisine??

100% with you on that Ijustwantpeace2020. Can’t stand them. Had a fabulous organic local burger spoiled last summer at a farm fair by one, it simply dissolved leaving a huge mess with nothing to hold it together. It’s awful that they are becoming so commonplace. Even Maccy D’s are using them for some of their bigger burgers I believe. As usual we follow the trends of the US 🙄

Are they super bad for you ? They are very sweet but nice with butter and jam. I feel guilty eating them, though.

I agree. Have you tried slicing one horizontally to make 3 layers? Then you can load on more butter and jam to make a sort of mini gateau!

I often order a burger if I eat out, but I say I don't want the bun.
An exception was some time back in Côte (other restaurant chains are available) when I ordered a vegan burger and the waiter recommended keeping the bun base and not having the top.
I am very partial to a brioche bun.

I too cannot fathom how burgers
landed up being served on brioche buns. The buns do seem to be more uniform in shape compared to a standard white roll and don't go stale so quickly so that's my guess on the terrible mismatch.

My granddaughter loves a brioche bun with a burger It wouldnt suit me but each to their own. People’s taste is very different no need to be so adamant about it

I love brioche buns with burgers, can t beat a bit of sweet and savoury especially with cheese and a pickle of some sort like gherkins, also love ham and cheese with croissants and cheese with jam in a butty yum, it’s all a matter of personal taste isn’t it 😂

Ooh, lovely! Bottom, mustard, mayonaise, lettuce, then either chicken breast or goat burger, melted cheese on top and sweet chilli sauce spread all on top bun!

We got into brioche buns during lockdown as local Tesco didn't have anything else on home delivery!

I love a burger in a brioche bun , they’re not really sweet like a breakfast brioche . I find them lighter than a normal bun. And those who complain about salt and sweet , most people add relish or ketchup to a burger , which is sweet .
I buy burgers from the farm shop which are pure beef or I get venison burgers . They keep their shape and don’t shrink .

I would eat the bun and leave the burger! I don’t eat processed meat - I like to know what I am eating.

Hmm... I don't think it's a thing here; I've never come across one. Mind you, we don't eat out very often.

I'm just not crazy about too much bread, it somehow puts the meat/bread ratio off and fills you up too fast! I also appreciate a toasted bun.

Brioche buns are sooo good with burgers!
I love them because unless you have a really good flavorful white bun, the burger is just ho-hum.

Many white buns used these days are too soggy, flavorless, and don’t hold up to everything piled in there.

Brioche breads are made differently in the process, not only the sweetness. The ones I’ve had are not that sweet.

If you bring your own bun in your purse don’t expect the cafe or restaurant to knock off the price. They won’t.

Waitrose used to do a cheesy bread roll on their loose bread counter which was perfect with a burger. Haven't stocked them for about 4 years and I miss them so much. Their wholemeal or ciabatta type rolls are just not quite right. Although the ciabatta is OK. But no no no to a brioche.

If you want to know about the good or bad ingredients in food or toiletries, there’s an app called Yuka which you can use to scan the bar codes when shopping. I use it all the time now, but it does make you rather paranoid! It doesn’t stop me from buying chocolate! 😂

My main problem with Brioche buns for burgers is the way the bun starts to fall apart while you're eating it. Halfway through a burger they just disintigrate.

Just had burger for dinner....with a nice soft normal bread roll!

Tbh on the rare occasions I have a burger when I'm eating out I ask for no bun - by the time they've added the salad and chips that's plenty for me.

I like my burgers well done and served in a properly soft white roll (not brioche or a sesame burger bun). Just a good, old fashioned fresh white roll. Add to that a smear of English mustard, an American cheese slice and a thin slice or two of raw onion.

I know I sound like a heathen and I usually like my beef rare and eat artisan cheese but you can't have a rare burger or a slice of good quality cheese on it. American cheese slices melt on a burger and reach the ultimate gooeyness like no other cheese.

Now I'm hungry.
