No matter what the facts are this is going to be reported on as being an official royal tour. This tour will be fully publicised in the press and have a lot of coverage perhaps to the detriment of the rest of the royal family.

Comparisons could be made between ‘youthful’ and energetic H and M and the elderly ailing king and Catherine also ailing.

Surely this is a kick in the teeth to Charles and William. I think their titles need to be removed asap, as I don’t think that H and M will ever stop trading on the RF name that they no longer want to be associated with.

Thank you Iam

Iam64 Tue 07-May-24 13:57:29

But I still find is staggering that people get so cross with H and M

GrannyGravy13 Tue 07-May-24 13:59:25

I am neither for or against H & M, but they definitely manage to ruffle feathers.

A rift in any family is to me always sad.

Just wondering what comprises an old hag? Not a phrase much used here. Witch ? 🧙

Anniebach Tue 07-May-24 14:10:15

Iam I get cross because they lie , when lies are told people get hurt

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 07-May-24 14:10:51

I get cross with H and M because they have betrayed their families and Harry has betrayed the country he was raised to serve.

An old hag is an unpleasant, ugly old woman. Very insulting to use that expression.

I find it fascinating anyone gets ruffled by H&M.

I've read they've lied, some proven, not just media nonsense. However, I assume there are others in the RF who have lied (adultery generally involves lies). I've no idea, apart from the lies, if they are vile.

Storm in a teacup.

I don't get cross with them. I can see no reason to do so.

Harry has not "betrayed the country he was raised to serve." He has made a life choice on behalf of him and his family, as we are all free to do.

By this rule, all farmers' children should become farmers, because that is what they are raised to do. Sometimes they simply choose to do something else. And that is fine.

The royal life did not suit him and his family - so he chose out. And good luck to him. It is a thoroughly dysfunctional way of life.

Ilovecheese Tue 07-May-24 14:41:17

I don't get cross with them either. I don't know them, or their family. I don't know what is reported accurately and what is not.
I think it is a shame they have felt the need to get away from the British press, although I don't blame them.
I don't understand why there is this need on this site to repeat the same things about them over and over again.

Harry chose to leave the Royal family. His decision and many wouldn't have criticised him for that but did he have to burn his bridges on his way out.

Personally * Glorianny* I have no feelings, either hostile or friendly, towards Meghan and have as little interest in her life as she would have in mine. What I don't like is my fellow gransnetters being called old hags.

Rosie51 Tue 07-May-24 15:01:18

Oh Glorianny how short is your memory? I've seen posts from you with regards to William and Catherine denigrating her personal achievements,, musing that William missed the memorial service for King Constantine because he was likely visiting his mistress when in fact he'd just had the devastating news of Catherine's cancer, saying that Catherine was determined to get William, accusing her of being a Stepford wife and so much more........ hardly the milk of human kindness in my opinion.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 07-May-24 15:02:06

I didn’t report your deleted post Glorianny , I would rather it had been left so people could read it.

Smileless2012 Tue 07-May-24 15:05:46

Rosie does have a point Glorianny.

AGAA4 Tue 07-May-24 15:07:37

I didn't report Glorianny's post either. I would have said so if I had.

Do I remember things differently from others? My recollection is that H&M wanted to remain as ‘part-time’ royals, who could follow other paths ( maybe like Netflix or similar), but still carry out some royal duties, and it was Queen Elizabeth who ( quite rightly, in my opinion) told them they had to be all in or all out.
I do wonder if that’s what is behind their antagonism towards ‘ The Firm’.

Smileless2012 Tue 07-May-24 15:23:22

Your recollection is correct Daddima and she suggested they take a year out before making their final decision, which is what they did.

Well all is not forgiven or forgotten in the Big House. Prince Harry will not see King Charles during his visit to London for an event marking a decade of the Invictus Games.

A spokesman for the Duke of Sussex said this was due to his father's "full programme" and that he "hopes to see him soon". His brother, Prince William, the Prince of Wales, will also not be at the service for the Invictus games, which will be held at St Paul's Cathedral in London on Wednesday.

What a mess Harry has made of it all. I wonder if, deep down, he regrets any of it?

So I have but is reporting things that are in the press the same as wishing things on someone?
I've never denigrated her personal achievements ( I'm not even sure what they are) if you have evidence of this please post it.
The strange and complicated process Catherine went through as a university career is well documented perhaps it wasn't to meet William but it certainly looks as if it was.
The Stepford wife comment is I think valid about many women in the RF.
As for the comment perhaps it wasn't well timed but William's relationship with Rose Hanbury has always been openly talked about and I had no idea about the cancer diagnosis then .
I am extremely sorry for a young woman who has had to lead such a public life and have such an awful diagnosis. Since it was revealed I have never made any further comments about her.

The speculation in the press about Rose Hanbury is just that press rumours and speculation, no different to the treatment you dislike meted out to Meghan. perhaps it wasn't well timed You and another poster were the ones saying he was likely off meeting his mistress that day, there had been no such press speculation. In any event it was known Catherine was recovering from major surgery, and King Constantine was William's godfather, so your speculation was nasty not just ill timed.

You have criticised her photography of her children etc and took exception to her being praised for it in the press. Her interest in her charities is every bit as valid as anyone else's.

Stepford wife (derogatory) A woman who unquestioningly submits to and serves her male partner, and/or does not seem to have interests, wishes, or pursuits of her own.

That's some insult, remember it comes from a plot where the wives were replaced by androids.

I am extremely sorry for a young woman who has had to lead such a public life and have such an awful diagnosis. Since it was revealed I have never made any further comments about her. just a shame she had to contract this awful disease to escape your criticisms and put downs.

Daddima Tue 07-May-24 16:05:48

* Rosie51*, has there ever been anything in ‘the press’ about Rose Hanbury? Isn’t that just something trotted out on the internet?
I’m not doubting you, I just haven’t seen anything.

Rosie51 Tue 07-May-24 16:30:52

Daddima no I've never read anything myself, but I have seen references on the internet to it being asserted in the gutter press. I think it's likely a load of made-up rubbish. They are close friends, and the gutter press do like sordid speculation stories. The banter that day between Glorianny and the other poster was that "like father, like son" William would be an adulterer, happy to leave his convalescing wife, miss his Godfather's memorial service, and all to enjoy sex with his mistress.

AGAA4 Tue 07-May-24 16:40:12

Rose Hanbury has used her lawyers to deny the affair with William. Rumours can start from nothing and grow and cause misery for others.
I hope for Kate's sake that they are false.
