Teenage pop star crushes…( a very shallow thread…)

I’m watching a programme about Graham Nash and it got me thinking about people in bands from my youth that I had crushes on. But, decades later there were other members of those groups that were largely ignored ( in a fanciable sort of way) that have aged so much better. Graham Nash is one such example. Roger Waters from Pink Floyd (who, imo morphed into Richard Gere). Charlie Watts from The Stones. Rings Starr has aged particularly well. It’s something I’ve often pondered on over the years but never mentioned it before.

I don't have crushes now. Well apart from James Martin and Michael Bublé grin both of whom I've seen live over the last few years.

If we are talking true love and total adoration, it always was and always will be Paul McCartney, if we’re just talking lust, Andy Fairweather Lowe.

Oh, sorry to disagree, but always thought AFL was most unfanciable! His high pitched, squeaky sort of voice did nothing for me, although I liked ‘Bend Me, Shape Me’ as a song.

Good job we all have different tastes.

Started off as a Cliff Richard fan (wasting my time there!!) but quickly moved on to Scott Walker (a much better bet in every way). Liked Alan Clark from the Hollies; I actually got his autograph -written in my purple eye pencil grinoutside the hotel they were staying at behind the Liverpool Empire!! I wish I still had the autograph. Ray Davies and David Bowie-present and correct.
Teehee Ferry 23.......
"And now I'm just an ageing old rat bag growing tomatoes and cucumbers and watching Gogglebox and drinking wine"

Calendargirl , oh how could you say that he was so cute. a bit later in, I had a big of a thing for Lou Reed, but it was always Paul.

Robert Plant, David Gilmour (hasn’t aged well) George Harrison, Bob Marley.

MissAdventure Sun 12-May-24 15:29:07

As a proper teen, Ian Dury and Bob Geldof were my poster boys.

George Harrison for me every time. Sadly he was not able to age well or otherwise.

Boolya Mon 13-May-24 11:35:50

Mike Sarne, John Leyton, Bobby Vee……

SillyNanny321 Mon 13-May-24 11:43:39

Elvis then as i grew up Francis Rossi- still a lovely man!

PinkCosmos Mon 13-May-24 11:44:21

Davy Jones of the Monkees when I was about 8. Followed by David Cassidy. In my mid teens David Bowie and Bryan Ferry.

I also thought that David Sylvian (in the group Japan) was quite beautiful when he was in his 20's

Frankie Vaughan.... 'Give me the moonlight.......'
Showing my (ancient) age now!

I was at that concert too Northernsoulnanna. It was a terrible tragedy and I remember me and my friends being jealous because DC too flowers into the hospital for her and sat by her bedside!!! blush.

I still play my vinyls too, usually when Mr. S. is out.

First crush for me was Davy Jones, followed by David Cassidy, Donny Osmond, Michael Jackson and Mark Bolan but not necessarily in that order.

All my teenage crushes - Elvis, George Harrison, Davy Jones - are dead. But you could see Elvis wasn't ageing well.

Another one here who adored Alan Clark from the Hollies. I even smartened up whenever I watched Top of the Pops and knew he would be on. (Cringe…)

Did you know the lovely Ian caught polio at the Westclff Lido.
Slow down itinerant child, classic 😂

Juno56 Mon 13-May-24 12:16:47

Peter Frampton. He was quite beautiful as a young man and has aged well.

Hemgranot Mon 13-May-24 12:19:33

Marc Bolan. He died near where I used to live 😢
David Cassidy - my teenager got their hair cut just like his a couple of years ago 🥰
Freddie Mercury - put off watching the Bohemian Rhapsody movie until recently as I didn’t want my memories trampled on.

Mine are all dead 🥺

Bryan Ferry .... oooohhh!

MissAdventure Mon 13-May-24 12:57:38

Yep, I knew he caught it in Southend Petra.
Ooh, he had lovely eyes!

MissAdventure Mon 13-May-24 13:00:41

And ooh, Marc Bolan in his white (silky) trouser suit, singing "Hot Love".
A sight for sore eyes!

Mojack26 Mon 13-May-24 13:01:00

Paul McCartney, actually went out with someone who looked like him! Roger Taylor from Queen, my fave group still but with Freddie...😁and David Essex

MissAdventure Mon 13-May-24 13:03:33

I went out with a bloke that looked like the boys from 'Bros'.
One night he was chased by some teen girls all screaming.
grin

Annierob Mon 13-May-24 13:25:15

David Cassidy
David Essex

Called my eldest son David 😊

MissAdventure Mon 13-May-24 13:28:14

I think almost everyone agrees that David Essex is and certainly was, a really handsome man.

There's an ad on lately with "hold me close" playing, and the minute I hear it, I see David's handsome face. smile
