Teenage pop star crushes…( a very shallow thread…)

I’m watching a programme about Graham Nash and it got me thinking about people in bands from my youth that I had crushes on. But, decades later there were other members of those groups that were largely ignored ( in a fanciable sort of way) that have aged so much better. Graham Nash is one such example. Roger Waters from Pink Floyd (who, imo morphed into Richard Gere). Charlie Watts from The Stones. Rings Starr has aged particularly well. It’s something I’ve often pondered on over the years but never mentioned it before.

David Cassidy (so pretty), Marc Bolan and David Essex (gorgeous eyes).

I loved Donny Osmond, remember seeing him on tv when I was about 9 and crying but not understanding why I was crying🙈
Still secretly like him now!

All that clean living has served him well.
He looks great, still.

Northernsoulnanna

David cassidy
Saw him at White City Stadium in 1974,sadly a teenage fan got crushed against the fenceing in front of stage.
Affected David .
Saw him again in 2008 (i think) on stage at Wembley ,also performing were David Essex and the Osmonds.
Still play my vinyl david cassidy albums.

I was there too! Snuck out with my friend to see David Cassidy at White City Stadium. Couldn't hear a thing with the screaming . I was in a lot of trouble for this.

Saw him again when he was older in Bournemouth and it was lovely to reminisce and be surrounded by other DC fans. No screaming this time. He was my absolute crush, but I also had a crush on Neil Diamond and still do really.

David Essex and Bowie definitely grew more fanciable in older age. One of my main crushes was James Taylor and he did the opposite!

I had a massive crush on Marc Bolan who is sadly no longer with us. I remember many of my friend swooned over David Essex who was never my type then (even when I saw him in the musical ‘Godspell’ in the West End). Now though, I think he is very handsome, he has aged so well. Funny how some people (usually men, unfortunately!) get better looking with age, isn’t it!

Desdemona

John Taylor from Duran Duran.

Oh yes please

When I got older, my crush was Michael Hutchence.
He was real rock star material.

David Cassidy and Davy Jones.

Guess it had to be Marc Bolan at-the top, some of the others from the same era were quite pretty but….David Cassidy just seemed too clean living. David Essex a little too old ( at the time). They were up there though.

I was never that interested in pop stars as a teenager, just their music. I was more interested in film stars - Sean Connery (the one and only).
Having said that, Kris Kristofferson is also a musician and is still wearing well.
In the 80s/90s it had to be JonBon. 😎

Alan Price from the band The Alan Price Set. I was very weird because none of my friends fancied him. I am going to Google him now to see how he turned out.

I liked Marc Bolan and David Essex but my heart belonged to Davy Jones. In fact a little bit of it still does ❤️

Tommy Steele when I was 5or 6!😂 Then when I was 11or 12 Cliff Richard. Carried on through teen years, then lost interest when I met DH! Oh yes those were the days!! 😍

My mum took me to see Tommy the Toreador at the cinema when I was little.

Not a pop star but I remember having a crush on Tommy Kirk who starred in several Walt Disney films. I think I was too young to recognise it as having a crush, I just know I loved watching him.

Was never into music that much, but loved the silver screen
James Dean (was 14 when he died), broken hearted, I could quote every single line in Rebel without a cause'.
Also loved Richard Todd, Brando (of course)
Many years later, my teenage daughters introduced me to Queen

Cadenza123 Mon 13-May-24 17:56:13

Gary Puckett. Although listening to the lyrics of the songs now is totally cringe worthy. Paul McCartney. Although he was too old for me, still is come to think of it!

Tricia2 Mon 13-May-24 17:57:41

Davy Jones from the Monkees was my heartthrob.

Marg75 Mon 13-May-24 18:32:31

I absolutely adored Adam Faith and won a competition in one of the teenage magazines, the prize was a massive photo of him which my Dad had framed for my bedroom wall. I still have it (not on my bedroom wall!!)

I’ve just found an interview with Tommy Kirk that he gave when he was 60. He was still lovely. I must have had good taste when I was little. He had a bad few years when he came out but seems to have overcome it eventually. I’ve got the dvd of Old Yeller but haven’t plucked up the courage to watch it.

MissAdventure Mon 13-May-24 19:25:48

Was old yeller a dog?
