Small Babies With Headbands

There has been a thread about this before. My biggest concern is safety.

From the Manchester Evening News:
"Parents warned over big bow headbands after death of 14-week-old baby. A mum is warning parents of the dangers of big bow headbands after her young baby suffocated. The 14-week-old baby is reported to have died after the bow slipped over her nose while she lay in her carry cot."

My grandson was brought home from hospital at two days old wearing denim jeans and matching jacket.

Like a tiny inmate of The Scrubs.😂

So they look naff and are dangerous as well, into room 101 with them.

I’m another one who thinks they are awful.

They do seem to be popular with young women of, dare I say, a certain class.

Ouch petra we bought a flat screen just a few months ago!

I suppose I was never bothered about whether my babies looked like girls or boys. They probably all looked like girls to be honest as they all had pretty long hair right from birth.

I dressed my girl as a girl.
Pretty radical of me.
Pink dungarees, pretty t shirts, and matching ribbons or bubbles in her hair.

Or bobbles..

Or, maybe, as someone I know says, "baubles"

Ahhh... baubles is just as nice.

I think they look like dollys. Daft things. I used to knit little hats for them because they said they lose a lot of heat through their heads when newborn. My granddaughter was in the NICU and all the babies had little beanies on in the humidicribs to keep them warm. Some lovely volunteers used to knit them.

My daughter was premature and she had a little bobble hat on when I met her the first time.
Wrapped in bubble wrap, with tin foil over the top, and a stripey hat.

I don’t like them either. Poor babies probably can’t hear properly with their ears covered up with those ridiculous bands! 🤪

Often, they barely have any hair to hold back!
I'd worry they'd slip and do some damage.

The babies always seem to be bald too. The first time I saw this was on Phil Collins baby daughter, I just couldn't see the point.

There was discussion on tv the other night about the rights and wrongs of piercing babies ears.

One mum had three children and they all had theirs pierced at under a year old.

When asked why she chose to get them pierced so young, she simply said “Well, it gets it over with”.

Made it sound like having a vaccination.

Certainly wouldn't have a babies ears pierced. To me it’s gross. The child makes the decision when they reach an appropriate age. I think they could do serious damage if the child fiddled about with them or they got caught in something.My daughter I managed to get her to wait until 15, my granddaughter 14. It’s as if some parents don’t want their babies to look like babies tge way they dress them. I remember on a hot day mine lying out in the pram under a big canopy in just a nappy, sleeping.

Having babies’ ears pierced is cruel and, as Allsorts says, dangerous. And, dare I say, it looks really common. Tattoos next, to get that over with?

I never liked them anyway, but since reading of one poor little baby who was strangled by one that had slipped down, I think they should be banned.

The reason flat screens were on the list was because they are often linked to all those consumables that, as one poster stated, are bought by people of a certain class 😂

The saddest thing about this whole topic is that still, in these enlightened times, the most important thing about a new baby is the gender. Stereotyping from the moment they are born.

All TVs seem to be flat screen now.

If you type baby tattoos into Google there are many pictures of baby boys with (I presume fake) tattoos, including on their faces and necks. You’re right, gender stereotyping is still rife.
