Just that really. Seems that he went for a walk and hasn't returned.
He's ubiquitous on my various feeds. I've done the 5:2 and the 16:8.
Hope hes OK

He was out in the heat of midday, which even locals said was unbearably hot, hiking over tricky terrain for what would apparently be a 2 mile distance, without his phone.

Very sad but I don't think it's looking good.

Isn't he an influential media doctor of sorts? I'm surprised he didn't have his phone on him at all times.
Very sad, and awful for his family. 🤞

He does a radio show called Just One Thing where he suggests things people can do to improve their health. Some of them are a bit eccentric (like walking downhill backwards) but they are backed up by science. He also advocates intermittent fasting and a low carb diet.

Yes I understood your post BlueBelle but you are picking out incorrect soundbites from MSM and misunderstanding them.

You say I also saw that the anorexia society was not happy with him 800 calories a day for life is very extreme

That is a complete misrepresentation of what the Fast 800 is about, but this is neither the time and the place.
People believe what they want to believe and don't let truth get in the way

They have resumed the search for him this morning. It’s not looking good.

BlueBelle Fri 07-Jun-24 09:20:41

I don’t know what MSM is so don’t think I ve pick anything up from them Calypso I just read a couple of mainstream accounts about him and thought he looked as if he was courting extremes means of proving a point but obviously I m wrong and you know much more
I stand by my feelings that anyone who would swallow tapeworms to prove a point is eccentric enough to walk out in the midday sun
But like all of you I think it’s tragic and hope he is found safely

Farzanah Fri 07-Jun-24 09:34:02

Yes the news isn’t good as time goes on and in heat wave too. I stayed on Symi for some weeks during the winter and spent new year on the island. It was very quiet then. It’s beautiful but rugged and we did a few recommended walks, but not coastal or rugged.
I hope the find him soon.

No it wasn’t meant as an unpleasant post Calipso as I said I don’t follow the man and don’t know anything about him so when I saw a ‘tv personality had gone missing’ I looked him up and there looked some very extreme stuff that he’s been using/ experimenting with call it whatever and that can lead to others following (injecting snake venom and tspeworms as experiments) I also saw that the anorexia society was not happy with him 800 calories a day for life is very extreme
Now that’s one side of it and I m sure from the posts on here he has some other methods that have worked brilliantly for people
What I was pointing out was that a person who took such major risks in medicine could easily have the belief that they would be fine in what others would see as a dangerous trek or walk that’s all
But as I said previously like everyone here I hope the outcome is a positive one although it’s not looking good is it

I'd stop digging NOW if I were you!

I love his programmes. He's interesting and a good presenter in my book. I do hope he'll return safely but the lack of his phone is rather strange........

henetha Fri 07-Jun-24 09:55:25

I like and respect Michael Mosley, and found his diets to be successful. I do hope he is found soon, alive and well.
Huge worry for his wife and family at this time.

HelterSkelter1 Fri 07-Jun-24 09:59:28

We all feel as if we know him which makes this so sad and also so very odd. I do hope that there is some news soon for the family.

And now of course there are searchers out in what will be very hot sun today so their families will be worried as well. At least they won't be hampered in their efforts by 100s of tourists as access to the island is fairly restricted and hopefully will be even more carefully restricted to avoid the island being overtaken by rubberneckers risking their own health and safety. I expect all the media vultures will descend.

“I also saw that the anorexia society was not happy with him 800 calories a day for life is very extreme “

It is for a max 12 weeks, not life

maddyone Fri 07-Jun-24 10:02:44

This is extremely odd and even odder that he left his phone on the beach.
Did he forget his phone or was it deliberate?

MayBee70 Fri 07-Jun-24 10:19:14

I don’t really understand at which point he realised he didn’t have his phone. Some reports say he left it at home and went back to get it, some say he left it on the beach. Either was I’m very afraid that there isn’t going to be a good outcome to this. He’s someone that we all feel we know in some way and it brings back terrible memories of when Greatnan went missing.

MSM =Mainstream media.

You are perfectly entitled to your beliefs but victim blaming on a public forum is never a good look. Think of all those who made up stories about the Princess of Wales's illness before she was forced to make a public announcement about her cancer diagnosis.

nanna8 Fri 07-Jun-24 10:38:10

It hit our news tonight for the first time. I hadn’t heard of him but apparently he had done a program about Australia. It doesn’t sound too good if he left his phone behind.

Lovetopaint037 Fri 07-Jun-24 10:38:14

So upsetting for his family and friends. So many of the public like and respect him. I do hope the mystery is soon solved and there is a good outcome. Keep thinking of him and checking the news. The Greek people we encountered were always helpful and kind and I am sure will be very involved and using their local knowledge.

karmalady Fri 07-Jun-24 11:05:06

lack of phone is not at all strange we are not all joined to phones. I rarely take mine anywhere, only if going a distance in the car and only as a safety device.

kircubbin2000 Fri 07-Jun-24 11:13:19

If you were on the beach with friends you would not need a phone.

sandelf Fri 07-Jun-24 11:17:54

I can just see him setting off all optimistic. Do really hope he is found very soon. Did he take a coast road and slip? Or fall breaking something in a remote area? Get overcome by the heat? Long enough has passed now he is clearly not OK.

Applegran Fri 07-Jun-24 11:18:05

When I heard he was missing I felt as if a friend were missing, not someone I know only through the media. I like his programmes and I like him. I do hope he is found - as we all do. What a terrible time for his wife and children.

PinkCosmos Fri 07-Jun-24 11:25:17

It said that he left his phone back at the house. I wouldn't think that this is unusual. As other posters have said, we are not all tied to our phone.

However, it would have been a massive help if he had his phone as he would be able to be tracked. Unless the phone signal is very bad in the area. Looking at the images of Symi, it could be poor.

I hope he is safe and they find him soon. Him being missing has affected me far more than I expected.

shoppinggirl Fri 07-Jun-24 11:30:49

This morning's news said they were bringing a sniffer dog to help in the search and if that draws a blank they'll start searching in the sea. Fingers crossed that maybe he had a fall and is found alive and well!

mrsgreenfingers56 Fri 07-Jun-24 11:38:18

I always read his page in the Daily Mail and he talks so much sense. Do hope he is found alive and well very soon. His family must be out of their minds.

Yongy Fri 07-Jun-24 11:44:40

It seems very strange that Mosley hasn't been found by now, the islanders think it is strange too. Why would an intelligent man go of on a walk in a remote area without his phone? Is he in some sort of trouble and had planned to disappear?

karmalady Fri 07-Jun-24 11:45:04

This is not far-fetched but people, who appear to be well-off are still kidnapped in greece. The country is full of migrants and traffickers, who work like mafia
