EEK! Michael Mosley Missing in Greece

Didn’t Stephen Fry go missing years ago. Think he had mental health issues and was in Belgium or France.

I’m not as invested in him as some posters are but hope he’s found, perhaps he had a row with his wife and stomped off not paying attention.
Divers are now looking.

Symi isn't at all like this. It's a small island where most of the inhabitants know each other and many are related. When I was there there was an unexpected rainstorm. I was walking by myself along a road when a car stopped and offered me a lift. He'd already picked up two tourists. The driver was a cousin of the owner of the hotel I was staying in. I didn't feel at all anxious about getting into a car with him.

That was my thought too. I really hope not though, as she'll be feeling awful anyway, without that thought in her mind.

This morning's news said they were bringing a sniffer dog to help in the search and if that draws a blank they'll start searching in the sea. Fingers crossed that maybe he had a fall and is found alive and well!

They have now brought the divers in as there is no sign of him on land.
Not looking good. His poor family!!!

It was reported that he had been seen in a busy area on Wednesday so the search was concentrated there, even though they said it would be difficult to go missing in that busy spot.

Maybe the witness was mistaken and time was wasted? Now they believe he may have been walking in a quieter, more rocky, area and perhaps fallen into the sea.

I hope that isn't the case and he soon returns to his family safe and well.

People who think its odd that he left his phone need to understand that not eveyone has their phone attached to them 24/7.

I can confirm what you say Glorianny. We had a lift in back of a pick up from a friendly stranger when walking from a beach one day. Lots of steep hills! There were no holidaymakers there Dec/Jan when we visited and large hotels were closed. Sadly the only migrants we saw were dead ones in body bags on key side, from sunken refugee boats.

Some people can’t pass up an opportunity to have a dig at migrants…. even in such sad circumstances like this

I hope he’s found alive and well, but it’s not looking good.

Sadly I don't think I could do the steep hills now. A lovely amazing place but you need to be young and fit to walk far. Far too hot now as well. I was there at the end of October, warm but a bit unpredictable.

I really hope they find him soon . He’s one of my favourite tv doctors and I’ve got some of his books .
I’ve just come back from Crete which is popular with hikers , hiking the Gorges. In the past I’ve hiked the Samaria Gorge but did it in early May . I’d never hike in southern Greece in June . We had temperatures of 33 which is far too hot to hike .
Karmalady, I’ve been traveling to Greece since 1985 and found the Greeks to be incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating.
My DH once went waterskiing with the car rental keys in his shorts pocket !!!
The waterski guy drove us to the car rental place , a good 20 minutes drive ti get new keys and then drove us back to our car .

I wonder if he was already a little dehydrated when he decided to go for a walk. What is normally a not unusual thing to do on a sunny afternoon, is completely different as the temperature rises.

lack of phone is not at all strange we are not all joined to phones. I rarely take mine anywhere, only if going a distance in the car and only as a safety device.

Actually if walking alone it makes good sense to have your phone with you and switched on
It doesn’t mean you and it are joined at the hip but anybody can have a fall/dizzy turn or worse and even if you can’t make a call, if somebody is worried that you eg haven’t arrived home or at your destination, your position can be tracked.

I don`t live in fear and neither do my daughters who often run or cycle in wilderness, on their own. Fear of `what if` is completely disabling to being free

none of us take a phone

My phone goes everywhere. I use it to pay at home and abroad, I'm a keen photographer, I get some amazing shots, and I embrace the security functions it offers, should I need them.

I do try to remember to take my phone but often forget. It’s not an important part of me, as it is with others.

Either way, its not all about his phone. The disappearance of MM is unsettling.
