Another GC’s sports day, warm and sunny.
They didn’t win, but it’s the taking part 🙋‍♀️

NannyG4 Thu 20-Jun-24 20:43:09

Hope everyone has had the best day they can under their circumstances! Hope those that are suffering, find a little peace and comfort where they can.

Another day at the hospice with my DH, he does look poorly, a shadow of himself, my heart is breaking.
Had a peaceful walk on the beach afterwards, I find it so therapeutic.

Have a restful evening, tomorrow is another day. Love always lovely Grans xx

RosiesMaw Thu 20-Jun-24 20:51:20

This is a long hard journey for you, all I would say, with hindsight, is treasure every moment, he is still the young man you married- INSIDE- where it matters. I’d give anything for a few more days when I could have told DH all the things in my heart but we both had our heads firmly in the sand convinced that this was just another “crisis” in another of his nine lives- and then it was too late. flowers

On a more cheerful note (well, not for the squirrel) it was a case of Rosie 1-Squirrel 0
Guess who presented herself at the patio door with a silly proud grin on her face and a rather dead one of these in her jaws!
Fortunately she loses interest whenever they stop moving so I shut her out until she dropped it, brought her in sharpish and rang my kind next door neighbour to ask if her husband might be willing to dispose of it for me.
I can’t cope with small dead things, one reason I have never had a cat but Rosie seems not to have got the memo that you may CHASE, BUT NOT CATCH.

Well done Rosie? How is she with rats? Pigeons?
Your trip sounds lovely Maw - I love living in Suffolk. Such a change for a girl from the Black Country.

soop Thu 20-Jun-24 23:06:35

Late evening greetings dear Kitcheners. My word, haven't you lovely lot been busy.

Just popping in to update you regarding Mr Soop's consultation with the dermatologist. His skin graft on his scalp has been 50% successful. Apparently he cannot have further surgery. A special gel is to be used by the nurse who changes the dressing twice weekly. It will assist with removing the dead skin. In the words of the consultant, "this will be a long term healing process"...

Mr Soop has received an appointment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow to monitor his abdominal aortic aneurysm. In the afternoon on the same day, he has another appointment at the Beatson Cancer Hospital regarding his Lymphoma. Next week, I have to go to the Vale of Leven Hospital to see the oncologist. We'll be able to meet with Baggs for lunch.

Although our lives revolve around hospital appointments, we both remain positive. My heart goes out to our Granspals who are dealing with serious personal health issues.

mamma Thank you for making me chuckle. grin

soop Thu 20-Jun-24 23:17:14

NannyG4 I wish that I could sit with you, hold your hand and comfort you. flowers

I shall now take to my bed. I read for an hour, after which, I hope to fall asleep without too much tossing and turning. There have been times recently, when I have remained awake until two o'clock. The GP prescribed some sleeping pills. I haven't taken one because having read the list of side-effects I was scared witless. hmm

Sweet dreams dear Kitcheners. I shall return tomorrow. smile moon

brook2704 Thu 20-Jun-24 23:17:14

Thank you for letting us know how things are going soop, lots of hospital appointments to get through but lunch with lovely baggs to look forward to as well
Take care and sleep well x

soop Thu 20-Jun-24 23:17:55

Goodnight, brook. Sleep tight. smile

maddyone Thu 20-Jun-24 23:43:31

I’m just popping in to say hello. I haven’t been in the kitchen for a long time.

Charleygirl5 Thu 20-Jun-24 23:44:24

Like others, a day out for me is a trip to a hospital. It was eyes yesterday and ENT on Saturday. We on this thread are keeping a lot of medical and nursing staff employed.

Rosie'sMaw have you booked another holiday after last week's? I was exhausted reading about where you are going to visit.

When Tara my cat was alive she used to bring home her takeaway and sit beside my chair enjoying her meal while I was attempting to enjoy mine.

nannyG4 my love to you as life is so difficult for you.

Catterygirl Thu 20-Jun-24 23:52:37

I haven’t been either for a while but wishing everyone a good night’s sleep without pain.

Grannmarie Thu 20-Jun-24 23:59:00

TOYA, NNGB.
NannyG4, sending 💕🙏 to you and yours.

Grandmabatty Fri 21-Jun-24 07:02:16

Soop all the best to both of you for the many medical appointments ahead. Getting older isn't for wimps! NannyG4 I think of you and your husband often. RosiesMaw speaks truly about the situation. My mum and dad never really talked to each other when dad was really poorly and I know she regretted it. Grannmarie I hope your dodgy knee is behaving itself.

kittylester Fri 21-Jun-24 07:25:34

soop, I love your positive attitude.

dragonfly46 Fri 21-Jun-24 07:36:20

We too are embroiled in doctor’s and hospital visits. I too, soop am seeing my oncologist in person next week. She wants to see me as it has been 5 years. The appointment was made a year ago but I am assured it is taking place. I can’t complain about the NHS!

My thoughts are with you NannyG4.

Nannytopsy Fri 21-Jun-24 08:51:02

Morning all!
I really think summer has arrived, so tonight the neighbours are coming for drinks, tomorrow we are at a Golden Wedding garden party and on Sunday DS et al are coming for a BBQ.
The patio here is made for entertaining but we have had so much rain since we got here that I aim to make use of every opportunity!

Jaxjacky Fri 21-Jun-24 16:36:04

I admire the positivity of you both soop and hope appointments are successful and ultimately your dear man has his scalp fully healed.
NannyG4 it’s good you have the beach to help soothe you through the hardest of times 💐
A pleasant day, sun and cloud, I planted some pinks and MrJ an acer, I’ve always yearned for one and it was a bargain🙄
Tesco have delivered, off to the local later for a catch up and a freezer dive for dinner.
Enjoy your evening all, I’ll share one of my baskets with you

Grannmarie Fri 21-Jun-24 18:05:24

Hello 👋 Soop and lovely Kitchen people!

Dear Soop, I agree with brook, your positive attitude in the face of these 'buggerations' is amazing! Good luck to you and MrSoop for the forthcoming appointments, hope they are helpful.

Thank you, Grandmabatty, I have a couple of recommendations for private physio as the NHS waiting list is 26 weeks now. I'll phone on Monday cos I'm getting impatient now, it's really slowing me down and my balance is poor. Dh gave me his collapsible stick for when I'm out and about and offered me a shot of his scooter!🤣
I hope all goes well for your Mum's move to the nursing home. It sounds ideal, good atmosphere and not too far from you. Our dear Mum enjoyed the company and activities of her nursing home.

Beautiful basket, Jaxjacky. You certainly have green fingers! It's been cold and wet here today. I'm on the sofa, heating on, reading The Brighton Mysteries by Elly Griffith. Enjoy your catch up!

Hello 👋 Dragonfly, good luck for your appointment next week.

Enjoy your weekend, Nannytopsy, sounds very lively!

Good luck for your ENT appointment, Charleygirl.

NannyG4, thinking of you and your DH. I'm glad to hear that he is comfortable and calm, and that you have family around you and your beautiful beach to help restore your spirits.
Wise words from Rosie'sMaw. I remember my friend being gently advised by hospice staff when it was time to 'say what she wanted to say' when her DH was deteriorating.

Thinking of Urms and YiaYia, hope we see them posting again soon, Blossoming too. I feel that it's important for our wonderful Kitchen to resume normal service as soon as possible, to show that we will not be diminished by the recent kerfuffle.

Tennis is running late, nearly time for Richard. I do enjoy House of Games.
Wishing everyone the best possible weekend. TOYA. 🥰

That sounds like a very long wait Grannmarie. Lovely flowers Jaxjacky.
I have inspected one care home and it's ok but for £6000 a month I would have expected a little more luxury than was being offered! Anyway, it was ok but I'm not convinced it would be a good fit for mum. I'll look at another one on Wednesday. I've had a pasta dish for dinner which was a combination of lots of things. A quiet night ahead. Enjoy your evening Kitcheners.

brook2704 Fri 21-Jun-24 19:14:49

Hi kitchen pals, it’s been cloudy but warm all day up here in Inverness
Goodness me grandmabatty £6k per month! It better be good for that sort of money
I’ve had a really enjoyable catch up with my pal and done a bit of shopping.
Ovo energy have been round to do a meter health check, it’s a smart meter but keeps going offline. Anyhow a new one will be fitted sometime in the future.
DH has started with a cough, shivers and sore throat so I’ve packed him off to bed with paracetamol and an extra blanket and hope he’s a bit better in the morning
Gorgeous basket Jax love the summery colours
Hope you get some helpful physio soon grannmarie
Take care all and have a lovely evening x

Naughtyneine Fri 21-Jun-24 19:22:18

I haven't heard back from HQ so I assume it's all gone quiet and I'm not about to be shot as I enter the kitchen. I do hope Urms and Yia come back into our lovely fold soon. DOH said how can you be told off for being nice and posting messages of support.... Never a truer word!!!!!
I ventured onto another thread this week...I normally only ever read and am far too scaredy cat to comment incase I get the fire of hell directed at me but it was about being houseproud and mentioned 'bottoming' a room. I had to ask what on earth it meant....I now know but not sure I've ever achieved it or am likely to... But it's good to know in case the Domestic Goddess fairy ever visits again. The children that I've been preparing make their First Holy Communion tomorrow. We had a rehearsal this evening ...they are doing the readings ( thankfully different from the readings at normal Mass this weekend..... Maccabees and retribution and violence galore). The boys are doing the offertory procession. I'm very proud of them all. I would like to think that even if they fall away from the church as they grow up they will always remember these last few months as joyful if nothing else. Its the parrish BBQ tomorrow too... Following on from the success of last year's our PP asked us to repeat it....I didn't really envisage he would plan it on the same day as the Holy Comminutions but hey ho. My knee is playing up like stink this evening... This is not too be recommended but I've just swallowed 2 paracetamol with a glass of Pinot Grigio. Don't judge me ladies😂😂😂😂😂
GrannyG4 ...I will light a candle for you all tomorrow.
Sending everyone lots of happy vibes for the weekend.

Grandmachrisy47 Fri 21-Jun-24 19:45:37

Naughtyneine I’ll never judge you but I’d swap the Pinot Grigio for Sauvignon Blanc while keeping the paracetamols.

NannyG4 Fri 21-Jun-24 22:58:40

A rather late entrance to the lovely welcoming kitchen....
I really hope you've all managed the best day you can in your circumstances... There's certainly lots of hospital appointments being attended... good luck to you all.
As ever a huge thankyou for all your good wishes.... Just more of the same today......
Love to you all......... xx
