Catterygirl Mon 01-Jul-24 00:08:56

I’m not brilliant at baking cakes. OH has requested that we bake one from a packet mix tomorrow. Under pressure.

Urmstongran Mon 01-Jul-24 09:28:26

Oh Yiayia your worst fears have been confirmed and you will be devastated. I hope treatment can be offered and that it gives you both some hope. A hug and best wishes from me too.

soop Mon 01-Jul-24 12:41:57

My love and all good wishes to our dear Kitcheners with heavy hearts.

TillyTrotter We will sit together in a double Umpire's chair. I've packed a wee picnic. The Prosecco is chilled. Hey ho...here we go. grin

Grandmabatty Mon 01-Jul-24 18:22:20

Good evening Kitcheners. Phew! Long day of childcare is done. Dgs1 was up by half six this morning and full of beans. Dgs2 slept til half eight. I then took dgs1 to his swim school. Dgs2 was so disappointed because he wanted to go in too. He even took off his shoes and socks all ready. Once we were back home, they played nicely and it was clear that dgs1 was tired. So lunch and a nap for all three of us. Then a walk to the swings and more playing in the back garden.a last twenty minutes watching tv then home. I've just cleared up, inside and out and had dinner. I wish you all a pleasant evening

GrannyGravy13 Mon 01-Jul-24 18:33:03

Yiayia4 sending you and your DH and (((hugs)))

Grannmarie Mon 01-Jul-24 18:55:19

That was a long day, Grandmabatty, I'm glad you all managed a wee siesta 😴 😴 😴!
I hope you've got your feet up now.

Hello 👋 brook! Wishing your DD and family speedy success with the house hunting!

Yesterday I went 'Kitchen shopping' with DSis2 who is remodelling part of her house before her retirement next year.
We had lunch in a nice hotel in between visiting showrooms. That was the best part of the day!🤣

Today I took DH to his Practice Nurse appointment to review his progress with new medication. So far so good.🤞

Tomorrow I have my first Physio appointment. I'm really hoping it helps my painful knee. GP said it should 'respond'to Physio...🤞🤞

So many lovely Kitchen folk with worries about loved ones, hoping and praying that you have all the love and support to get you through the difficult days, hoping the patients get the best care possible. TOYA

Wishing everyone a peaceful Monday evening. Enjoy Wimbledon, if that is your thing. I'm still suffering withdrawal symptoms from the Monday evening 📺 quizzes!

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 01-Jul-24 21:42:11

Hello kitchen people.

I have driven to Swindon twice today. OH took his car to be fixed so I had to follow so I could bring him back and then drive him in again to collect the repaired car. I hardly know Swindon. It’s the same distance as Oxford which I know really well, but in the opposite direction. When my daughter was at Bristol university she used to get the train to Swindon. I would have to negotiate the ‘magic’ roundabout!

I’m so sorry that many of you have difficulties. All I can say is that I’m thinking of you.

Jaxjacky Tue 02-Jul-24 16:53:39

Hi all, fingers crossed the physio has helped Grannmarie and you’ve had a less full on day today Grandmabatty.
We were woeful at quiz last night on the first round, that set us back even though we improved, but it’s a couple of hours out with laughter and banter. Football was still going when we got in, so we were later to bed.
I had a report to update this morning from yesterdays phone calls before the washing went out.
It’s been a cool, grey, but blowy day, hopefully it has all dried, I can then just call it ‘dry washing’ until MrJ gets to it, then it’s ironing 🙂.
I’m taking my daughter out for dinner, it’s her birthday tomorrow, just the two of us is rather special.
Thinking of those who have sorrow, you’re not forgotten.

Grandmabatty Tue 02-Jul-24 17:05:40

Evening Kitcheners. Jaxjacky today was hard! Dgs2 was in a terrible mood all day, kicking, screaming and whining. He was the most contrary individual. Dgs1 was goodness personified. I suspect he was being deliberately good 😂 as a contrast to the howling dervish of a brother. They are now home and creating mayhem with their mum and dad. I am having a ten minute rest before I begin to tidy up. I hope everyone is ok. I'm thinking particularly of Grannmarie and her dodgy knee and NannyG4 and Yiayia who needs a virtual hug. Take care all

Grannmarie Tue 02-Jul-24 17:29:52

Thank you, Jaxjacky and Grandmabatty. Bit of a shock for me at Physio this morning, basically I've been told that I have osteo arthritis in both knees and the sore one is very inflamed. I'm off to the pool just now, just to walk, part of my new exercise regime for the next 4/5 weeks !
TOYA.

brook2704 Tue 02-Jul-24 18:08:09

Oh grannmarie I hope your knees aren’t too painful and the gentle exercises help a bit, take care and keep up the physio!
A tough day grandmabatty well done though, I know it’s not easy - Hopefully you can get a rest this evening with your feet up
It’s rained all afternoon here, I’m getting fed up of this miserable weather, I can’t get much gardening done. I enjoyed my volunteering session though. I’ve been sorting through a small mountain of Lego bricks back into sets - DGS has decided he doesn’t want a lot of it now but would like me to try to sell it for him - it’s definitely a rainy day job
Have a lovely time with your DD tomorrow Jax, a special time indeed just the two of you - enjoy
Thinkng of nannyG4, Yia and all our kitchen pals facing difficult times just now x

hulahoop Tue 02-Jul-24 19:17:15

Granmarie hope the walking helps with knee pain.Grandmabatty it's hard when little ones are out of sorts .Jaxjacky hope you have a lovely meal with your daughter.

NannyG4 Tue 02-Jul-24 19:31:14

Good evening lovely grans. Hope you are all as well as can be and not suffering in silence, come into this safe haven... I love this kitchen.

Thankyou so much for all your kind words and support, its such a lift.

Another day of hospice visiting, my DH is looking so frail but is comfortable and peaceful.....

My love to each and everyone of you, take care 💕💕🙏

Doodle Tue 02-Jul-24 19:38:36

Evening all. Not been able to access GN properly for two or three days. Thank goodness GN fixed it for me I missed seeing what’s going on.
Had a dreadful day today. Couldn’t get to grips with anything I miss my DH so much . Hoping tomorrow is better. This is so hard. Take care all.

Doodle Tue 02-Jul-24 19:39:16

NannyG4 thinking of you in this hard road you’re travelling. So glad your DH is peaceful.

dragonfly46 Tue 02-Jul-24 19:42:06

Doodle flowers

Redcar Tue 02-Jul-24 21:03:39

Good evening everyone, it’s so warm and comforting in this lovely kitchen. Cool and wet today, but not wet enough to soak the garden. Sorry you’ve had such a miserable day Doodle and hope tomorrow will be better for you.
nannyG4, thinking of you, life can be so hard sometimes.
granmarie I hope the exercises help your poor knees.
grandmabatty I hope you had a rest before clearing all the toys away.
Virtual hugs to all who need them.

Grannmarie Tue 02-Jul-24 21:49:09

Aww, Doodle, I'm so sorry. It's still very early days for you in your sorrow, so sore. Hoping and praying that soon you will be able to find some comfort in precious memories of happier times. Thinking of Baggs too. 🙏💐

NannyG4, glad your DH is peaceful and comfortable, that is what we all wish for when the time comes. Thinking of you both.🙏💐

YiaYia, thinking of you and your DH and all the family. Urms and Himself too...🙏💐

Soop, hope you and MrSoop are doing okay. Enjoy the tennis, TillyTrotter too!

Thank you, Hulahoop and brook, it was quite soothing just walking back and forth in the pool for half an hour, much easier than walking on dry land! brook, I am in awe of your patience with the Lego!

Jaxjacky, how lovely to have one to one time with your DD.

Grandmabatty, you're amazing! Be good to yourself tomorrow!

I hope annsixty is comfortable and enjoying her wee break. Thinking of blossoming and her DH too.

DH says I'll have to stop " running after everyone " to let my knee heal...he doesn't get irony, most of my " running after " involves him! DS1 and DGD popped in and found me on the sofa with a pack of frozen peas on my knee... I've to ice it 4 times a day. DS1 advised me to stay on the sofa and watch box sets. 📺 You can tell he's his father's son cos he hasn't realised that Grandpup, ( his family pet) is coming here next week when they go on holiday. I'll persuade DS3 to help with dog walking.
My sincere sympathies to all kitchen folk with mobility issues, I'm beginning to understand how limiting it is.

Wishing everyone a peaceful night and restful sleep.*TOYA, NNGB*.

Grannmarie Tue 02-Jul-24 21:50:51

Thank you, Redcar, crossed posts!

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 02-Jul-24 21:51:55

Hello kitchen people,

I’ve had an interesting day. WI coffee morning with an array of ladies from 58 - 98!

Then lunch with old friends who OH has known for over 20 years, both in UK and overseas. Fred (not his real name) is very frail and finds it hard to get around. Walking is painful and slow and he has a multitude of ailments. His wife, who is the same age (85) is a saint. We had a three course lunch so I just had a banana for dinner.

I went to a friend’s this evening. It was their son in law who was tragically killed about a month ago. They’ve only just had the funeral. My friends are obviously very sad.

There are so many sad things happening in the kitchen and I’m thinking of you all.

soop Tue 02-Jul-24 23:09:18

Dearest Doodle, NannyG4, Urms, Yia and Blossoming special, comforting love to you all.

Grannmarie Rest that knee whenever you get the chance to do so.

Grandmabatty How many times have I said that you deserve a pure gold medal...I've lost count.

Ladyleftfieldlover Bless you. Bless your dear friend.

I have had a marvellous day of tennis umpiring. One match in particular was immensely entertaining; Rublev and Comesana. I was delighted when Comesana won. He is a marvellous tennis player and dishy with it. wink
I also enjoyed the match between Draper and Ymer.

And now to bed. I shall read a chapter of a very early edition of a Nevil Shute novel and then trust that I shall fall asleep without too much tossing and turning. Last night, I was awake until almost 2:30. Luckily, Mr Soop needs to sleep in his reclining chair. He suffers with bad circulation and, if he lies in bed, he suffers wicked episodes of cramp. He always awakes refreshed, for which I am thankful.

Night night...sleep tight. smile moon

Nannytopsy Tue 02-Jul-24 23:42:45

Evening all! Sorry to hear about your knee Grannmarie - you have my sympathy. While it is inflamed, just do gentle physio - they can be a bit enthusiastic in what they want you to do!
Sleep well everyone!

Grannmarie Tue 02-Jul-24 23:57:45

Thank you, Soop. Enjoy your Nevil Shute. We read/ reread A Town like Alice for Bookgroup a few years ago. In spite of being
very ' of its time ' it was still a great story. I remember a library copy on our living room bookshelf when I was a child.

Ladyleftfieldlover, your poor friend and family, what a tragedy. I'm sure they appreciated your kind visit.

Thank you, Nannytopsy. Wise words! Hope you and yours are doing well.

I haven't seen Dustyangel in the kitchen for a wee while? Thinking of her and her DH.

Grandmabatty Wed 03-Jul-24 08:34:59

Thank you ladies. It was a tiring day yesterday.☺️ Grannmarie I'm sorry about your knees. Hopefully the exercises will help. Soop I shall dip into Wimbledon today. I still enjoy A town like Alice and other Nevil Shite novels. Doodle I hope you managed to sleep. 💐
I'll catch up with you all later. I'm off to top and tail gooseberries for jam.
