Gardening accident for Olympian Katie Archibald

Hoping for a quick recovery for Katie after tripping on a step in her garden. The misstep caused her to dislocate her ankle, break her tibia and fibula and rip two ligaments off the bone. She is as shocked by this as all of us. I once rolled my ankle while walking in sandals and heard two loud pops, fell and couldn't stand up until a passing motorist stopped to help me. I was able to transfer from the car to my home via. rolling office chair where I laid on the couch for two days waiting for the pain to subside. Later, on advice from a friend, I went for an x-ray, found my leg was broken in two places and had to have a metal plate and eight screws put in to heal it. Couldn't walk for nine months! When people asked what happened, I joked that I was skiing off a jump and landed badly, and then confessed that I broke two bones by simply going for a stroll. Have any of you had an injury that was received in a silly, embarrassing way?

Sixty years ago, I went to a ski-ing course in the Highlands. When I arrived home with a badly sprained ankle, I had to reluctantly admit that it happened in a ceilidh when I was spinning round in an eightsome reel.

I read yesterday about the young French swimmer that placed 2nd in 100m, qualifying for the Olympics, and as he celebrated his win, he dislocated his shoulder. Poor young man, I hope he can recover in time to swim. My heart always breaks for these athletes with so much riding on their physical well being.

I did exactly the same as Katie, tripped on a step, 12 years ago. It was excruciatingly painful and it took a long time to heal.

I slipped on a flight of those indispensable marble stairs (why marble for heaven’s sake😫) you find in most Spanish apartments, about 3 weeks ago. Still hurting. Went for a short walk just now. For some reason, crossing my arms, behind my back seems to help , rather than walking with arms to the sides

I got concussed (A&E diagnosed) whilst dusting the windowsill! Couldn't swallow a mouthful for 2days & kept bursting into tears for no reason.

I don’t feel so daft tearing my knee ligament in February now.

It's shocking that physically fit athlete can suffer such a serious injury from a fall .
I hope that there isn't an underlying cause .

Get Well soon ,
Katie 💐

Jaxjacky did you tear your knee ligament in a silly way? I still think bumping my head accidentally on an open cupboard is the most painful - that and stubbing a toe. Ow!

I managed to give myself an embarrassing injury yesterday. Thankfully not too serious. I couldn’t fully close the sliding mirror wardrobe door and could see something was obstructing the inner track almost out of reach.

I got on my knees and slid my arm into the confined space and and after some huffing and puffing I managed to get my arm stuck. I was jammed in a really awkward position for several mins before I managed to free my arm. I now have a bruised arm and painful shoulder. I’ll be wearing long sleeves when I meet up with my family tomorrow and keeping quiet about my mishap 🙈

I fell over dancing the Gay Gordons - long dress, new shoes, slippery dance floor, no wine (honest!)

Damp patio Macadia and old slippers with no grip, my fault!
