I really wanted a Barbie doll but had to make do with Sindy instead. My mother reckoned Barbie was too "tarty"!?

So did mine! Sindy was wholesome apparently!
I have to say her clothes were exquisitely made.

Sandy had a big head, I always thought.

I wanted a motor bike and asked Santa when I was taken to see him. He gave me a small Matchbox one. I was disgusted. He must have known I wanted one to ride. Never got one. In the 5th form a boy had one and I sat on the back but felt wobbly and didn't go for a ride. Years later in my 40s someone with a 3 wheeler gave me a ride and my skirt got tangled in the wheel and tore.

I went off ponies in my teens, and haven't been that interested since.

I wanted a cupboard I could lock to keep my brother out. I caught him just about to pour my first bottle of perfume down the toilet. I dread to think what he was going to put in to replace it.
The other thing I wanted was roller skates with rubber wheels .I had to put up with metal wheels.

I always wanted a teddy bear 😢

That seems reasonable for a little child.

There were 2 things I always wanted,the first was a Tiny Tears doll, my sister had one but I was never that lucky 😅.
Then,I wanted a bike, my dad used to ride his bike to work everyday as it was extravagant to use the car he said.
Dad used to let me ride his bike around the back garden (which was small ) but mum and dad said No to a bike of my own.
I found out later that our neighbours daughter had been run over whilst riding her bike and then I understood why I couldn’t have a bike.

That is probably one of the most romantic things I have ever heard! I love it!!!

I was 4 years old when my mum left me with a neighbour while she worked and I remember her having a glass display cabinet. Inside was a tiny replica of Queen Elizabeth's coronation golden coach and white horses. She would let me play with it and I loved it! Now in my 70's, I have my own, purchased from a lovely lady on Ebay!

A party dress. I had to go to parties in a homemade pinafore dress with a school blouse underneath. I'm 78 and I still get tears in my eyes thinking about this.

I had sort-of party dresses, but they never looked nice, since they were hand me downs from older cousins who were much fatter - I was always skinny. Always too big, too long, and ‘fat’.
I still remember refusing to wear an excellent quality hand me down coat (aunt and uncle were very well off) because it was a ‘fat’ coat!

I wanted long hair. My mother said I had to wait until I was 12 "when you can look after it yourself" and indeed, come age 12 I reminded her of her promise, and was allowed to start growing it.

It's been up and down a bit since then, coloured and poodle permed, but it's been long and straight for the past 30-something years, naturally grey for the past two, and it will stay as it is now until I die.

Pierced ears.

That was something I longed for, because I wanted to wer gold hoops that shone when I flicked back this imginary long dark hair.

Mum and dad were united in this, and I was NOT allowed.

A Jacko Monkey from Woolworths, he had red trousers and striped trousers, my cousin got one but I never did, although we were never short of toys

Another vote for a pony and/or a dog. Other than those, a huge, ornate rocking horse that I could sit on and ride and pretend it was a real horse of my own. Never had any of them. I did have loads of other lovely things though and my parents spoiled me in many ways.

When really young I would sit on the stairs in the hall at Nana and Pop”s house and watch the grandfather clock. It was a brass moon face clock that in my mind I can still see clearly. When I was about 14 the house was cleared and I asked could I have it. I was told no because there was nowhere to put it I even offered too get rid of the wardrobe in my room to no avail. I have always looks in antique shops hoping to find it

Re the French trip aged 14! I did one aged 14 and hated practically every minute of it. We were given buckets to go out and collect snails, which were then eaten a few days later, cacti to eat (actually globe artichokes - unheard of in the UK in 1974) and if you ran a bath, the water was full of insects. I could go on and needless to say, I vowed I would never go back to France again.
How we laughed when I ended up living there for a few years with my French partner at the time and it remains one of my favourite places in the world to be!

Mine are very simple…a fringe, which was regarded as’ common’, and white socks, not beige. Oh, yes, and Wagon Wheels!

I desperately wanted a brother or a sister but it never happened. My mother had difficulty conceiving me but I didn’t know that until many many years later. Now I have a much bigger family of sons, daughter in laws and grandchildren

Also, I wanted a Space Hopper. I don’t know why I was never given one considering it was at the top of my must-have Christmas list haha!

A dog! Now I have 4!

As my dad died when I was all I ever wanted was him back for one last Christmas. Everything else meant nothing without my dad to share them.
