As has been pointed out before loads of Conservatives have been constantly ridiculed about their clothes - Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Therese Coffey, Priti Patel, Nadine Dories, Rishi Sunak and now his wife - the list goes on and on.

Yet just ONE Labour member, Angela Rayner is on the receiving end and all hell breaks out on here! Compliments were made about Labour ladies who WERE dressed appropriately. I will just add that it’s not just on GN. There are few positive comments about the Deputy Prime Minister’s outfit anywhere!

Are we not allowed to say anything against Saint Ange? If so, that’s very unfair.

You know full well this is not about what Angela Rayner was wearing Primrose53. Deeply personally insulting things were said about her personality and morals. I have never seen anything so insulting listed on Gransnet before about anybody, ever. That is what has differentiated this thread from other threads about people’s appearance. I wish those comments hadn’t been removed so everybody could still see them, but many of us did and they will remain imprinted on our memories.

It IS About her awful outfit. I don’t think I have made any offensive comments and I have certainly not had any of my comments removed.

Well, I've just come back from an afternoon tea at a local manor house to raise money for the RNLI. I am feeling virtuous and am also having a good laugh whilst sipping my cuppa at the truly sad contretemps of some of my fellow G'netters who continue to feed this pitiful thread. Fascinating insight into the fact that 'some' having nothing better to do with their Sunday afternoon than bathe in vitriol. Do you not have relatives to visit, gardens to attend to, or cakes to bake? Very sad state of affairs.

I don’t personally make a habit of commenting on people's morals, but I’ve certainly commented on Boris Johnson’s unprofessional appearance in the past, and I’ve seen others make comments which on occasion have gone too far.

This was a different level to anything I’ve ever seen though, it was an unprecedented personal attack. That is I think what so many people have objected to - not all of them Labour voters at all. It’s easy to say it’s tit for tat, you said, I said etc. but in my opinion at least, this time it went way too far.

Primrose53 I agree that many Conservative MPs have been verbally beaten black and blue with comments on their appearance. And Rishi was even mocked on his height, which I find totally unacceptable and similar to mockery of someone's race. As mentioned, someone wanted Boris to die of covid.

But the person who gets the most abuse on here is Farage. It's one thing to disagree with his politics but the comments have been totally toxic. He's been called the most horrible names and likened to Hitler who murdered millions of people. Absolutely shocking. I'm not a Reform voter but I never post such horrible comments about anyone. I'm inclined to defend anyone who gets a torrent of poisonous abuse.

So I find this thread quite gentle in comparison with many I've seen before.

I agree with you Primrose53. Imprinted on my memory is a poster calling Carrie's choice of wallpaper "fit for a tart's boudoir" followed by more insults.

I hope she keeps banging on about it. Endlessly. To show young people that your life doesn't end when you have a baby young, that you can make it despite a really difficult upbringing, that even if you are a carer for a parent and life is hard... in time you can turn your life around and make something of yourself.

Of course she has a flat in London! Parliamentary work has long unsociable hours, she can hardly commute from Manchester!

Calling someone a loser is, well - par for the course these days when you want to diminish someone. If that someone is a man, then taking the piss out of his short-stature to add spite to the slur is, in my book, below the belt.

I admire AR's tenacity - especially in the bear-pit which is the HoC - but she crossed a line.

If we are not to accept men making comments about women's physical 'attributes' or appearance in the House - as some did about AR in an effort to undermine her during Johnson's tenure - then AR should not participate in the same way. If Sunak had ever made personal remarks about her, it might be forgivable, but as far as I know, he's never attacked her, or anyone, on that level.
