Angela Rayner ghastly trouser suit

OMG the Deputy PM looked a fright walking along Downing Street this afternoon.

Showwaddywaddy called and want their suit back!! 🤣

She looks like she either has no bra on or a badly fitting one. Her boobs are almost down to the waistband of her trousers.

Well, I've just come back from an afternoon tea at a local manor house to raise money for the RNLI. I am feeling virtuous and am also having a good laugh whilst sipping my cuppa at the truly sad contretemps of some of my fellow G'netters who continue to feed this pitiful thread. Fascinating insight into the fact that 'some' having nothing better to do with their Sunday afternoon than bathe in vitriol. Do you not have relatives to visit, gardens to attend to, or cakes to bake? Very sad state of affairs.

No not sad, no gardens, no relatives to visit. I live in a nursing home,

Watching Emma and Lulu. Drinking Pimms, testing the mix for the weekend don’t ya know. Also painting finger nails. Multitasking.
Where’s that on the smugometer?

LauraNorderr Sun 07-Jul-24 18:41:32

Hope you’ve got a nice view Anniebach over your beautiful green Wales.

I'm watching the tennis while removing my green nail varnish which went with my green dress over the weekend. I'd offer it to AR or Victoria Starmer to match their outfits, although it's more of a pistachio green.

I think I crammed a lot in to my day actually! Up at 7, loaded car, did stall at car boot. Healthy profit. Rain held off. Packed surplus stuff in garage.

Sat down for an hour’s rest. Made lasagne from scratch with salad for 5. Spent another hour on a site where I am Admin/Mod.

Didn’t have time or inclination to bake a cake but had a sticky toffee one from Aldi with Neapolitan ice cream. šŸ™‚

Yes - we never hear much about Anniebach's nursing home flowers. Anniebach?

If her weather is anything like it is here in the South West (ish) 🌧🌧, Wales must be very green at the moment. Wales is more westward though.

And yes to those who say two wrongs don't make a right - they don't, but it seems to have been ignored that AR can ship it, too.

That was me, and I stand by it. 'She did it first' is no defence at all. If AR makes vile sexist comments (which I doubt) it doesn't entitle anyone else to do likewise.

The fact she 'did it first' is not relevant - it's that there are no cyber pages of disgust that she did it.

I'm sure there will be. I remember her using the word 'scum' and she had to apologise. That wasn't a misogynistic term, either. Other than that, and the 'pint sized' jibe, I am not aware of anything, but I'd put a pound to a penny that if she had made sexist comments there would have been outrage.

The trouble is, that there are no real equivalent insults for men, and there are fewer women in positions of power. Men aren't attacked for looking as though they have sex (or whatever the literal translation of the colloquial 'tart' is - it reminds me of Jean Boht in 'Bread' talking about Lilo Lil grin), or for having 'illegitimate' children. If such things are mentioned it is in a 'bit of a rascal' sort of way.

There is a much higher bar for women, and if we defend people's right to belittle us for things like having babies without a man willing to 'legitimise' them we are perpetuating that inequality and prejudice.

Aw Anniebach I visit a lady in a lovely nursing home and she is very happy there. Like you she is great with technology and is in touch with people all over the place. She has been trying to encourage more residents to get Ipads etc.

She is a lovely lady and fascinating to talk to. We sit in her lovely room or out in the garden and put the world to rights.

You should start a thread, there may be others in a similar position as you. ā¤ļø

What’s going on here? Have we come to only being allowed by other posters on threads to say that either women or men look terrible/ poor dress sense if they represent a different political allegiance to ourselves?
She looked awful! However pleased I am that Labour are forming the new government doesn’t blind to me to how any politician looks and will be judged by the watching public.
Hopefully she will look at the tv footage, shudder and learn from it.She won’t go wrong if she copies Yvette Cooper and what she wears as a working politician.
I agree with Monica in that too short, tight jackets are a strange choice for anybody, as are the wide, creased trousers, especially paired with matching colour stilettos and a button up type blouse tucked into the waistband.
I don’t know what kind of job AR will make of being Deputy PM and levelling up minister ( sounds a bit of a non job) that has still to be seen, but she sure needs advice about what to wear. And Yeah, we are allowed to say so.

Commenting on someone’s attire and if you think it looks good or not, whilst totally irrelevant, particularly when one’s been up for 24 hours plus, (and I thought I’d seen her earlier in the day in a different, much more flattering outfit), is one thing, but calling her a ā€œtartā€ and commenting on her lack of intelligence is completely unacceptable.

I neither like nor dislike AR, because, guess what, I don’t know her, I’ve never met her and I’m unlikely ever to meet her!

I’m looking forward to seeing how she, Starmer and the rest of the newly appointed cabinet behave and perform.

When I started work in the City in the very late 70’s, no woman in our business was allowed to wear trouser suits and men could not wear coloured shirts. Thank goodness we’ve moved on from judging people and how well they do their jobs by how they dress and speak.

Even Maggie Thatcher felt she needed, and indeed had, elocution lessons in case she was judged for her regional accents.

Thank goodness people like Rees-Moggs are on the way out!

LauraNorderr Sun 07-Jul-24 19:12:32

Are you keeping well Anniebach? Are you happy in your new abode, well not so new now. Have you settled in nicely and made some friends?

Oreo Sun 07-Jul-24 19:17:23

You are way behind the thread now Cossy it has moved on.
It’s also been pointed out very many times that by far the majority of posters are only commenting on what AR was wearing.
People are judged all the time on how they dress btw but saying that her outfit was really unflattering/ awful is acceptable.

I’ve just bought a sort of light grass green nail polish and will await the verdict of DP, when I wore a pale blue one last week he said it looked as if I had a heart problem.🄺

As has been pointed out before loads of Conservatives have been constantly ridiculed about their clothes - Theresa May, Boris Johnson, Jacob Rees-Mogg, Therese Coffey, Priti Patel, Nadine Dories, Rishi Sunak and now his wife - the list goes on and on.

Yet just ONE Labour member, Angela Rayner is on the receiving end and all hell breaks out on here! Compliments were made about Labour ladies who WERE dressed appropriately. I will just add that it’s not just on GN. There are few positive comments about the Deputy Prime Minister’s outfit anywhere!

Are we not allowed to say anything against Saint Ange? If so, that’s very unfair.

It’s so NOT about criticising her attire, as you well know!! It’s about calling her a tart and commenting on her IQ!

Iam64 Sun 07-Jul-24 19:24:31

Waves to Anniebach - we usually agree politically, never on H and M. I remember the things that led to your move to your current home Annie x.
I’m always pleased to see your contributions - even when we don’t see eye to eye. I thought of you on independence day 4 July 2024. In 97, my lovely husband drove a retired miner, aged 80 to vote. He thanked Mr I and said -I’m 80, this is probably my last chance to see a Labour government.

Maybe that’s because I’ve been out today with friends, not sat on my phone ā€œkeeping upā€ But thanks for pointing that out!

I left out the scum comment deliberately. It's an insult that can be applied to both sexes, though frequently seems to be directed towards men more so. And it's subjective anyway, though not a nice thing to say, it doesn't refer to a person's physical appearance.

But Rishi Sunak cannot help being of short stature - it's DNA isn't it. I doubt it bothers him, he's been pretty successful in life, but it is something that does make some men feel inadequate - it's from the same stable of insults about the size of a man's genitalia. Look you don't need me to explain this, I know.

It was a cheap and nasty jibe against a man who appears not to indulge in some of those very personal comments made by the man he ultimately replaced. And possibly sexist, too - are women poked fun at for being small?

AR insulted Sunak because she perceives his stature as a physical defect.

I'm not defending that comment on here which belittled AR - I just don't understand why there is no outrage at her cheap, sexist, shot at Sunak.

(I haven't seen the comment(s) about illegitimate children on here?)
