I love watching Sport...but I like other programmes as well...why does it absolutely take over 😡...what percentage of viewers watch it soooooo much?

Calendargirl Sun 07-Jul-24 21:48:01

The News was put back by nearly 2 hours for the Raducanu match. Then post match mortem with Billy Jean King and Clare Balding.

And Wimbledon also on BBC2,

Unnecessary.

farview Sun 07-Jul-24 21:51:35

Absolutely agree..

RosiesMaw Sun 07-Jul-24 21:52:58

It’s only two weeks a year - live and let live.

farview Sun 07-Jul-24 22:05:29

Live and let live? ....if football had so much coverage there would....I'm sure....be much complaining....absolutely too much re Wimbledon...it takes over everything.

keepingquiet Sun 07-Jul-24 22:17:03

I love it- other channels are available.

Jaxjacky Sun 07-Jul-24 22:20:38

It’s ok, you’ve got the Olympics soon.

BlueBelle Sun 07-Jul-24 22:26:11

Why can’t IT be on other channels then keepingquiet I m fed up with football Wimbledon taking over everything for the last few weeks why not bung it all on a sports channel can’t stand any of it

Callistemon213 Sun 07-Jul-24 22:33:05

I do watch some of it but agree that BBC3 could be used for sport as there is nothing else on there thst is remotely interesting.

The BBC is very annoying, at a crucial point in a match they will announce "This match will now be transferred to BBC iPlayer" or from BBC1 to BBC2 or whatever.
Then there are the BBC adverts 🤬

Kate1949 Sun 07-Jul-24 23:24:26

I put the TV on the other day. It was Wimbledon BBC1 and BBC2, football on ITV and a Grand Prix on C4. Ridiculous.

LOUISA1523 Mon 08-Jul-24 06:45:03

For 2 weeks , its not a problem to me

Calendargirl Mon 08-Jul-24 06:45:29

Yes, preferably on just the one channel though.

Would you be so keen if it were a sport you’re not remotely interested in, I don’t know, darts or ten pin bowling maybe?

Well, it is for some of us!

😠

There are hundreds of channels with thousands of catch-up and download options these days. The news is available too 24/7, including the BBC online. Not forgetting the radio for constant news bulletins.

It is only 2 weeks of the year , and there’s plenty of notice that it is coming in order to organise other TV viewing if that’s important to you.

I’m loving it. I have one match on the TV, and two others live on the iplayer on the iPad to flick onto in between.

MissInterpreted Mon 08-Jul-24 07:54:38

It's not my thing either, but there are countless TV channels available, so surely people can find something to watch?

OurKid1 Mon 08-Jul-24 08:27:01

I actually enjoy Wimbledon, but last night was too much. That Radacanu match meaning the news was put off for 2 hours was just ... well .... boring.

As I said to MrOK1 - I think I'm all Wimbledoned out this year.

M0nica Mon 08-Jul-24 08:39:43

Sewing Bee was moved fromTuesday to Wednesday. Iing the programme.

Calendargirl Mon 08-Jul-24 08:40:08

Maybe the news is available on line, but I like to watch it, properly, when it is supposed to be on. It was just guesswork as to when it would start.

I was pleased when Lulu Sun won.

Oh no, don't mention the snooker
😃

The clue is in the name Wimbledon Fortnight, not to be confused with MOTD every Saturday night or Euro24 or the Six Nations or Ski Sunday .
But for those bored by all the sports programmes this summer, cheer up, only 3 weeks to the Olympics.

Ooooo you are awful... but I like you !!!!

Seriously I love it. Watching Tennis , the Footie and F1..... especially when Lewis wins at Silverstone........

tickingbird Mon 08-Jul-24 16:01:59

I absolutely love tennis and look forward to Wimbledon. Compared to the overload of football all year round I don’t think Wimbledon is overdone. Other channels are available smile

My H has Alzheimer's/dementia..I have just 2 hours of peace and quiet 8-10pm...Its the only time i actually watch tv for some "me' time...some quiet time... from repetitive questions from H starting at 6a.m...

Sunday's I look forward to watching Antiques roadshow..didn't happen..
absolutely no need for both BBC channels to be taken over by Wimbledon ...should be a designated sports channel 🤦‍♀️

Callistemon213 Mon 08-Jul-24 22:21:56

Can you get iPlayer, fsrview?

There are loads of old programmes on there, we watched an Antiques Road Show we hadn't seen before.
We did leave Djokovic to get on with it and watched Long Lost Family instead

madeleine45 Mon 08-Jul-24 22:26:13

Well I would love to see some sailing , but fat chance! Give me the rugby not that other game with the round ball!! But actually it is a good time to catch up with things that needed to be done and just watch the bits I am interested in. I enjoy a good match rather than just endless aces however good. But our favourite was always to go and pick strawberries on the wimbledon finals day. we usually got good weather, hardly anyone about, and would get a good amount and go home and make strawberry jam that night. Then when you are eating it in the middle of a miserable patch of weather in November enjoy the memory of the picking day to remember that yes we might get some better weather!
