Anywhere you would have liked to visit? Anywhere not ?

Having lived all over the world as a child ad had a long term holiday home in France. I am uncertain about just visiting a country for short period.

A one or two week holiday living in a hotel in a tourist spot is no introduction to a country. having a self catering place somewhere away from tourist hotspots is better, but to know a country you need to live there for at least several months

But if I go abroad on holiday now I like to have a narrow field of focus. This year we had booked a Battlefield holiday visiting the sites of Duke of Wellington's battles during the Penninsula War in Spain. I have never visited them before. Unfortunately we have had to cancel this because on examination it required more walking than DH can now manage.

I agree about very short visits being pointless M0nica and expensive on the planet.
I like purposeful travel.
I am going to the Isle of Skye next month for a week's Gaelic course.
I went last year and enjoyed it. I used public transport all the way to add to the adventure.

I’d love to retrace Joanna Lumley’s footsteps along the Silk Trail, I found that fascinating. I’ve travelled a fair bit, but one place I’ve never been and would love to see is Japan, which looks to have very diverse scenery, and is culturally interesting, so different to the UK - and I love gardens.

We’ve been lucky enough to see just about everywhere we really want to see.

We did once have a tour of Mexico lined up, which was cancelled - I think I’d still like to do that. More of the US - New England maybe, perhaps Texas? And I love sleeper trains so I’ve always dreamed of a long trip on a luxury train - along the Silk Road on the Golden Eagle would do nicely. Of course we’d have to win the lottery or sell a kidney to be able to afford it.

I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like Dubai, but there isn’t anywhere I’d definitely rule out.

Oh, yes, I had forgotten the whole Persian Gulf area, I retract my firt statement I would sooner visit Australia than go anywhere there.

Alaska and Hawaii. Not really sure why we never went. Too late now, I'm not in the best of health and we have 3 dogs who I wouldn't want to leave . No idea why I've got so weird about the dogs. Over the years we've had quite a few and used to go away regularly, leaving them with relatives, but now I just feel tremendous guilt!

I would have loved to visit the Antarctic but for various reasons it is too late for me now. Another place is Canada, I think it is so beautiful there. Are there any places you would have loved to visit?
Norway was on my ‘wish list’ for many years but we finally got there a couple of years pre Covid. It was wonderful, I loved it there.
On the reverse side, I have never wanted to go to the USA and never have been there. Another one I wasn’t interested in was India though I know many people who love it.

I’m in Canada at the moment, it truly is a beautiful country. I’d love to visit Norway and Finland. If Australia wasn’t so far away I’d love to visit my friend who lives there, but I really don’t think I could stand the journey. One of my sons did the year long young person,s visit, saw lots of the country and absolutely loved it.
I’ve never had any desire to go to places like Dubai.

Of course, life is too short to do more than fleeting visits, but perhaps it helps us see that the world's people are not so different to us...

I know I am very lucky as apart from India I have been to most Countries I wanted to visit.

Travelling around Australia mostly in a camper van with two of our children (aged 4 & 9) was an exciting two months. We returned when our 4 year old was 16 along with our 8yr old DD, this time we stayed in apartments and hotels, less stressful.

Brazil was amazing, although Rio de Janeiro was a bit scary in parts.

I always wanted to go to Petra, Jordan and we finally got there. I was not disappointed, it is stunning, but you have to be fit as it involves a lot of walking or alternatively you can take a pony ride through the mountain to it.

We walked as the poor animals looked so weary…

I spent years touring Europe in my camper van days, but love going further afield too. I did the west coast and east coast of USA and would enjoy 6 months touring the middle states.
Also, I've always felt drawn to India and wished I could have gone there. The colours, the clothes, the jewellery, the people, all seem amazing to me.

I would like to go to Canada or anywhere for whale 🐋 watching. I've never fancied Australia 🦘

Provincetown, US Cape Cod, is brilliant for whale watching. We’ve been several time, thanks to a Dsis very conveniently living in Cape Cod! Huge humpbacks up so close every time.

After a nightmare trip to North Africa I decided against going back or to the Middle East, just doesn’t appeal

I’ve never wanted to visit anywhere colder than here as I really hate the cold weather and it makes me miserable. I’ve also never wanted to visit Africa or India.

I’d have liked to have seen New Zealand as it looks beautiful and also Russia for the architecture, I don’t think either of those places are likely to be on the cards now. I’ve become quite averse to travelling abroad now, partly because of it’s effects on the planet but also because I have become very lactose intolerant which makes eating out fairly difficult in this country so goodness knows what it would be like in a country where I don’t speak the language.

32 years ago when we got married, we went to Japan for our honeymoon. Exceptionally extraordinary.

However, both of us, do not really care to fly such long distances.

So, basically we enjoy Italy, France, the North of Spain, and Switzerland.

This coming autumn, we have been thinking of travelling to Salzburg and Vienna, Austria and / or Budapest, Hungary.

We have not decided yet ..

When I finished my Nursing training in 1963, I wanted to go to New Zealand. I had 2 Aunts and uncle and 2 cousins there. I wanted to go under the emigration scheme, for 2 years. As I was still under 25 I needed my parents permission. My Mother point blank, refused to sign the paperwork, I never got to go. Now I am too old ( aged 83) but I still regret not being allowed to do that.

I have been to Australia and NZ via Singapore all great places. I like America going back to NY in Dec. I also really love Turkey and we go for a week every year.

For some reason have never gone to Italy or Poland and plan to do that next year.

I have always wanted to go to Israel and see all the biblical places but I can’t see that ever happening as every time I’ve tried to go the area , especially now has been too unstable.

I would never go to China, Japan , or Russia and can’t see me ever getting to Africa now.

I've love to see more of America and Italy. I've visited Chicago, New York and Los Angeles and Rome, Sorrento, Sicily and worked in Madrid for a while.

No notion to go to any part of USA Always fancied Kenya as my Dad did part of his National service there and spoke of it very fondly

We have travelled fairly extensively, but there are still many places which I would love to visit, both near and far.

I'd love to go to South America, but babysitting commitments currently limit our available time - would probably go to Argentina, Chile & Brazil over 5-6 weeks.

Also, disappointed that I'm unlikely, in the current political climate, to visit Russia. I had investigated St Petersburg, Moscow & the Trans-Siberian express prior to the pandemic.

I have no inclination to go to the USA again, have only been to Florida with our children and New York for a weekend.

I see lots of mentions for Norway, which I highly recommend. Our son lives in Oslo, lots to see for a city break ( though avoid November/December). we travelled to the Lofoten islands 2 summers ago, which was absolutely magical. Next year we plan to explore more of the West coast in summer.

I would have liked to visit Japan but after my husband died I dudn't want to do it alone. I have travelled a lot in Canada which I loved and am so glad I visited Russia before the horrid situation that exists now (although I did spend a week in a training hospital when there!! Made our NHS a gold 5* organisation, it certainly opened my eyes!

I haven't travelled much at all really, financial reasons and a lot of time caring for people.
I had always wanted to visit Russia though and Chernobyl....not likely at all now sadly.

I live is the USA (rural Midwest) and have traveled a lot here…am planning a trip with my daughter next year to Scotland (ancestral home), and would someday like to visit Austria! Any suggestions on tour companies?

We’d like to cruise the Caribbean before we’re too old, but it’ll mean doing some SKI-ing! 💷💷💷💷😳😂
