Pyjamas as day wear?

In France, in the spa towns, loads of people wander round the streets in their pyjamas... they're lucky enough to be sent for cures as part of their health service..

Some people are out and about in their pyjamas, dressing gowns and slippers, but the "pyjama look" is a fashion statement, not someone who can't be bothered to get dressed.

If I dared to walk around town in my nightwear I would probably be picked up by the police and referred to Social services.

Wearers of Dryrobes certainly aren't wearing them to show they are rich!! My DGC and family all wear them, sometimes 3 or 4 times a week. They take them on holiday with them. There's nothing like a DryRobe after a dip in the sea, or even after a visit to the pool. They are practical and effective.

I was referring to them being worn, over clothing, on the supermarket: not judgemental in any way, just a little surprised.

I saw a woman last week in Duty free at Gatwick with a full head of curlers, although she had on a Tracksuit not PJ's. Now that's a new one on me..

I've seen the curlers look here a few times.
The girls look beautiful, so I assume it's a fashion, a headscarf and curlers, with glam make up.

I think the curlers are if they're going to say a wedding or a night out. Often they're put in at the salon, then all you have to do is take them out later. Well that's what they did when I lived in TOWIE land!

I can remember women wearing curlers and headscarves on a friday, from when I was a child.
I suppose they were going out that night.

Whip the curlers out, a bit of back combing, and Bob's your uncle!

I thought would never go out in my pjs . . . until, going to collect DH I forgot I had navy blue pj bottoms on instead of joggers. We shopped in Booths on the way back.
I hope no one on GN noticed. 🤭

I try not to be judgemental - not always easy. I wouldn't go out in my pj's, but don't object to others.
Having said that, I do wear a nightie not pj's, and have been known to open the front door in my dressing gown. Is that OK?

It's fine to do whatever suits you best.

One of my daughters (31) is nearly always in pjs, she dropped one of my granddaughter's up for lunch today. My granddaughter (12) ran in , and said Mummy won't come in , she's wearing pjs. It was 1pm

What about nighties? The ones I saw in MandS looked pretty enough to be worn as dresses.
But generally, I think that unless you're ill, it's lazy not to put on clothes in the morning.

I have a pair of trousers, dark blue with big white spots, that Tesco thought were pyjamas but I like to wear casually in the daytime, including going out in them if I feel like it.
I'd never go out in pyjamas I'd been wearing at night, tho, except to put the bin out!

In the early 70s, there was a fashion for wearing 'hostess gowns' which were flimsier material than dresses, full length & slightly elasticated at the back.
They were cheaper than dresses and I believe it was because of being classed as nightwear, but I may be wrong about that.

I live in the north of England and can remember seeing mams on the school run in pyjamas one school sent a letter out telling the parents to dress appropriately for dropping children off at school! I get to 8pm and get into my nightie and dressing gown hoping no one will visit😂🫣

Opening the door in my dressing gown, not quite as good as opening the door in my pyjamas but the next best thing.
For those who don’t know there are doors in nightwear…

Is pippa's a jumpsuit? They are different to pyjamas.I like the idea of them but i doubt i could manage getting it up/down quickly enough for the loo😅

I bought these summer pj’s this week ready for Oz. . the jacket would do very well as a shirt with shorts or jeans. It’s loose and a bit boxy. I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable wearing it in public but not with the trousers (especially as they are at least 8” too long 🤣)
