I'm usually quite open about family and life in general. I was surprised recently to hear that a friend from one of my classes has a sister who lives near me. She has never mentioned this and usually only talks about the tennis or football.
If that were me I would have named my sister and asked have you met her?
I suppose we are all different.

I think people are prefectly entitled to reveal information about themselves at their own pace.
I was once in a relationship with a man whose family never talked about each other. I found the silence that came with their company very odd, as I have always been very honest and open. The relationship didn't last.

Another friend from my past was very good at spreading malicious gossip about others but never revealed anything about herself. I left that friendship years ago.

My sister irritates me to death with her constant 'need to know' all sorts of trivia. She doesn't need to know everything!

We are all different, thank goodness. It makes life fun and interesting.

I am an introvert so I find social situations exhausting. I do have a few good friends but if we don’t see each other for ages it doesn’t bother us, we don’t text each other all the time, and if any of us need help we would be there.
Telling people stuff about myself and the family might be OK on anonymous forums like this but even then is a limit. I just think other people would be extremely bored if I bothered them with my personal affairs.

Not particularly.
I'm protective about having my own space; it makes me feel quite unwell if people try to invade it, but apart from that, I'm an open book about most things.

This post made me smile. My dad was a very private person to outsiders. One Friday someone at work said to him “are you doing anything special tomorrow John”. My dad replied “yes, giving my daughter away as she is getting married ”. My dad said there was silence and then someone said “I didn’t know you had a daughter, someone else said I didn’t know you were married. I don’t know if he ever mentioned when he had grandchildren even though he loved them dearly.

I was private when working regarding our family business its not something I discussed with people. I am open with my few friends I have known for many years as they are with me.
I am friendly and helpful with people but I don't suffer fools and never have I am rather direct.

Why does it bother you, none of our business.
