Southport murders *GNHQ has corrected title*

We are all reeling from the dreadful reports about the stabbings in Stockport. One thing I find hard to understand is why the monster responsible for them cannot be named ‘for legal reasons’. I understand this to be because he is under 18.
In my opinion, if he is old enough to carry out this unforgivable act, he is old enough to be named and shamed. What does everyone else think?
I hope all those affected by this will find peace. My heart goes out to them.

Rekarie

Some good news, two children have been discharged from hospital this morning.

Oh, thank you, Rekarie

Does a psychopath have mental health issues? Mental health issues seems to cover a large spectrum of abnormal and antisocial behaviour.

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-24 11:45:14

How man health issues in physical health ?

Well, you can criticise my initial post for being less than clear, I hope i have made myself clear in my second post.

However, this is only speculation, which we are being encouraged to not do, but nothing else makes sense to me.

Please note a psychopath is not someone suffering from psychosis.

AGAA4 Thu 01-Aug-24 11:54:43

I wasn't criticising your post WWM2. I do know what a psychopath is btw.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 01-Aug-24 11:56:26

But to answer your question a psychopath suffers from total lack of empathy that “normal” people feel, and are entirely capable of committing dreadful acts without guilt.

But they do not appear quite sane.

Either way it is the only explanation for me that makes sense.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 01-Aug-24 11:56:57

Oh sorry - ignore my last post😬

Whitewavemark2 Thu 01-Aug-24 11:58:16

And that should read quite insane

Time to go back to the garden I think!

MissAdventure Thu 01-Aug-24 12:01:03

A percentage of the population are psychopaths, and they lead normal, often successful lives.

On the contrary a psycopath can appear perfectly rational, and even charming. They may even appear to exhibit emotions. However this is similar to the process of "masking" adopted by some neuodivergent people and is not a true reflection of their personality. Psychopaths can be both clever and subtle.

What difference would it make to you if you knew his name?

His family will be targeted and have probably been moved to a place of safety, the fewer people know the name the better.

At some point we have to decide what the meaning of 'child' is in the UK. The legal definition is now 18 but:

If 16 year olds are considered old enough to vote, get married (with parental consent), engage in sexual activity, join HM Forces (albeit not go to an area of conflict until 18) but not allowed to drink alcohol in a pub, be named if they commit multiple murders, no wonder the public is confused.

Salient point AGAA4, seems to cover a gamut of conditions from feeling fed up to the urge to commit murderous rampages, I fear the lines of have been blurred on what is of course serious disorder, such as bi polar . Drugs have of course played their part in some people's descent into mental health problems.

Callistemon "At some point we have to decide what the meaning of "child" is in the UK, the legal definition is now 18 but.." If 16 year olds get the vote then I do think that definition will have to be changed, although as with any arbitrary age there will always be anomalies, particularly with that demographic when some would argue a fair proportion will not have reached the optimum age for making serious informed decisions.

I have a 16yo, he is very much still a child

I suppose Saville, if he had been exposed in his lifetime, could have cited MH. Sometimes we should accept that some people are knowingly wicked

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-24 12:22:08

On GransNet there is no problem deciding evil or mentally ill

Anniebach

I am not saying that he is mentally I’ll - I haven’t a clue.

What I am saying is that is the only explanation that makes sense to me.

I simply can’t take on board that anyone would commit such an act without having a mental health issue.

What would a sane person”s motive be to set about little girls with a knife?

There isn’t a sane motive is there?

Patsy70 Thu 01-Aug-24 12:36:14

The 17 year old has now been named.

Anniebach Thu 01-Aug-24 12:37:51

Definitely not a sane motive Whitewave but many still cling
to evil as the cause

Wyllow3 Thu 01-Aug-24 12:37:58

It's not a cop out or get out of "jail card" at all.

People are still charged and jailed after psychiatric assessments that acknowledge illness - the CPA and police have to decide if that person is "fit to plea"

"What happens if you are unfit to plead?

If the Crown Court decides that you're unfit to plead, it will do a trial of the facts and decide whether you did the crime. If it decides you didn't do the crime, it will acquit you.

If it decides you did do the crime, the court can: Give you a hospital order under section 37 or 37/41.

Jaxjacky Thu 01-Aug-24 12:39:30

He has now been named.

Galaxy Thu 01-Aug-24 12:39:46

Hes been named. Will be 18 in a week so restrictions would have only lasted days.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 01-Aug-24 12:41:32

Jaxjacky I have just heard that.

It is the name that accompanied a picture of the arrest which has been all over the internet.

Nicenanny3 Thu 01-Aug-24 12:42:16

All reporting restrictions have been lifted as well.

Galaxy Thu 01-Aug-24 12:42:48

Yes everyone heard the name days ago.
