I don't think naming and shaming would make a blind bit of difference to anyone in all honesty. Lets say his name is Joe Smith. Does that make any difference to you?

Everyone who needs to know his name knows it and I expect a lot who don't need to know. I expect the gutter press are desperate to name and shame. As JaneJudge says what difference will it make?? I feel sorry for his family as well as everyone else affected. How on earth will they live with this.

People inside will find out who he is, even if his name isn't punished and will make his life awful.

Name him and cameras can surround his family home.

I don't think names should be public knowledge because of vigilantes.

His family have probably already been moved. I’ve been told there are pictures of him and his real name on X. The locals will know who he is. Pictures from doorbell cameras etc. as he was being detained.

I think what people really want to know is why??

The overriding tragedy is the death of 3 innocent children and all those still recovering from the assault. I think there is also another tragedy and that will be for the family of the boy, they have to live with the horror of the shocking crime he committed. I fear there are those who believe in vigilante tactics, I hope the family will be shielded from such behaviour. I believe his name will be in the public domain at some time in the future, as it has been with other heinous crimes committed by underage assailants. The police have a duty to protect the lives of his family from anyone going off on some half cocked rampage. We don't want to descend into some kind of "lynch" society.

You do not need to know his name.

Didn't Labour want to give 16 years old the vote. Yet someone 17 who has killed 3 children can't be named and is classed as a child.

You’re right to ask. The truth is, ‘named and shamed’ is a phrase I trotted out without thinking. I don’t need or want, him to be named and I apologise that I gave that impression.
I really must concentrate more when I proof-read my replies!

What happened is an utter tragedy, I find it so overwhelmingly dreadful, that I think the only possible explanation is that the young man has severe psychosis issues just like others we have witnessed. One man was proven to have Schizophrenia who murdered three people recently.

Nothing other than that makes sense to me.

What on earth could his motive be?

At some point we have to decide what the meaning of 'child' is in the UK. The legal definition is now 18 but:

If 16 year olds are considered old enough to vote, get married (with parental consent), engage in sexual activity, join HM Forces (albeit not go to an area of conflict until 18) but not allowed to drink alcohol in a pub, be named if they commit multiple murders, no wonder the public is confused.
