Clothes turning 'inside out' in the wash

This morning I decided to test my washing machine and solve the inside-out, back-to-front problem. I carefully turned all sleeves, trouser legs, etc right way round before I put them in the washing machine.
And sure enough, there's a little gremlin in there busy making more work by turning 50% of my clothes wrong side out.
Wait till I get my hands on the little blighter! angry

Never had that happen is it an all singing all dancing machine

😂
I often leave things inside-out in the hope they'll right themselves but they never do.

When you find him, OP, send him on to me when you've finished re-educating him because I'd like to kick his posterior, too! 😅

I've got one here too Exdancer. Just to add engineer has just been and replaced a pressure pipe and the pump and I can't believe he found £2.00 in coins. One of the coins was half a 10p piece so can't imagine where the other half went.

Mine does that too, usually with my undies.
But when you turn them inside out, deliberately, how dare they turn them outside in?

This always happens to my king-sized duvet cover. How? It’s huge.

I usually wash things inside out (except whites) as I want to preserve the colour.
I dry on a washing line so it means they are ready for that.

One leg of my trousers turns inside out. The other invariably does not confused

I wash coloureds inside out and line dry but the only thing invariably turned inside out is knickers 🤷🏼‍♀️

This has never happened to me !
I do wash anything nice by hand .
I wash my everyday clothes in the machine .
Here's something that happens to me a great deal - one shoe disappears without trace .
I tie my shoes together and if I can't they go in a clear plastic shoe box .

This definitely happens to my pants. They all end up inside out whichever way they go into the wash. They are a silky fabric with cotton gusset (M&S no VPL).

When DD1 had 3 children under school age I did her ironing for her. She used to wash everything inside out, and I cursed having to turn them all back. Nothing ever righted itself.

I put it down to sod's law.

I’ve got the answer - put them in the wrong way round and they’ll turn the right way in the wash grin

NotSpaghetti Tue 06-Aug-24 10:46:57

maddy 😂

I have one pyjama top which does that every single time. I always turn it the right way round before putting into the washing machine, but without fail, when it comes out, it's always inside out!

annodomini Tue 06-Aug-24 13:06:06

I can't say I've noticed this phenomenon! However, I never wash my duvet cover without fastening the poppers. Otherwise I'd find it full of pillowcases and the fitted sheet.

NotSpaghetti Tue 06-Aug-24 13:22:21

My husband just washed our super-king very heavy duvet cover without zipping it up.
It took 15 minutes to get it open! It was like a very heavy ball!
I've rinsed it again but it is still very screwed up.

I expect he won't do it again! 😂
He does domestic of the washing now so I'm surprised it's not happened before!

I am happy to announce that my gremlin works considerably less than half-days now that he is growing old, and has reduced his work to only turning one sleeve of various garments inside-out.

So you can look forward to yours reaching retirement age!

Unfortunately, in the winter when I use the dryer, some wretched younger gremlin enjoys kicking as much washing as possible, anything from pillow-slips to washing cloths, into my eiderdown cover!

Whatever he gets in, does not dry, and is dreadfully crumpled when I get it out.
