Hallo from windy Hertfordshire but at least the sun is shining though it's rather chilly - I'm a chilly person anyway! I've got a pile of washing and the need for some vaccing to take place today - boring but has to be done though I'll still watch some TV over my sandwich lunch. I'm not very mobile these days but I get by and fall into a chair when the work is done. The sun is certainly very welcoming

Here’s the odd thing though, my holidays these days, summer or winter, tend to take me to polar regions. I am perfectly happy sitting in a little boat in the middle of an icy fjord in pelting rain and seven layers of clothing but I am not happy in my cosy sitting room at home watching the rain come down day after day. A psychologist might explain….

Sunny in the north of Scotland but windy. Did some hefty gardening yesterday as my DH decided to help! Sat down outside with a late lunch and the sky went black and it poured for threat of the day. However the heather is glorious already and the rowan are bent over with the weight of berries.

We have the family here for the weekend and I am having a cookathon. Friday fish as always but one vegetarian and one non fish eater (🤨) who likes a vast dod of meat daily. I am finding it more effort to do three courses for several days but of our local go to restaurants, one closed down suddenly and the other has closed for two weeks holiday for the staff. I am baffled as it is such a busy time of year here.

Yesterday I received some shoes I had bought in a sale online, I have very narrow feet but unfortunately the shoes were even narrower so back they must go, such a bargain but not for me.
DD contacted me from her holiday to say her in-laws who were cat sitting have had to go home early so we are now on cat care run for three days. She is a sweet little black and white cat so we sit with her for quite a while. U3A monthly meeting this afternoon if we feel up to it.

My wild flowers - tried to post them earlier but they wouldn't pick up

Good morning from a dry and windy NE after overnight rain.
Only slept for an hour or two, had to get up and take painkillers at 4am.
DIL is coming at 2pm and we are going to see GD2 perform in the end of course concert run by local stage school. GD and her friends are going swimming at a club just down the road from where I live. DIL and I will have a cup of tea until it is time to collect GD again, she will be tired after a very busy week.

Good morning from Cambridgeshire where the sun is just breaking through. I have been up and about early but only just read all the posts this morning. Does sound a mixed bag of weather we seem to be quite lucky of late in East Anglia.

Out for a walk with a friend this morning across the meadows avoiding the cows hopefully!! DH has breakfast club with the boys who live in our road their Friday catch up and treat.
I have an appointment for a chat with a friend who lives far away this afternoon and will potter deadheading etc in the garden.

My hydrangeas appear to have developed white scale again🙈 I thought I had avoided it this year but spotted it again last night!! Hydrangeas have been good this year tho.

Good morning from a very windy Durham. That will make the forecast 20 feel cooler. The garden is still looking ok, I think our better weather was so much later arriving than elsewhere.
Yesterday’s roof work quote was much the same as the other - both eye watering and I was warned that it’ll be a filthy job with lots of mess.
Today, I’m meeting DD2 and DGS2 for some playtime and I’ll call and see DD1 and DGS1 on my way home.
Hoping those dealing with post-op and accident pain have a decent weekend.

Good morning Mick and everyone from greyish Carlisle where we are forecast a day of sun and showers. I fear it will mainly be the latter.
I lay in bed last night feeling depressed at the rapid approach of autumn and winter, dark nights and cold. I wouldn't be bothered if we'd had a decent summer. DH loathed British winters and we used to decamp to Spain for the entire season after retirement. I miss it but it wouldn't be the same on my own and our former friends and acquaintances are in the same way as myself, no longer there either.

Yesterday I picked the last of the peas and I'm starting to clear out the fruit and veg border now. Mixed success this year, partly due to the weather, now I must start to plan for next year.
My crab apples are ripening nicely and this season I will be able to make my first pots of jelly from them.
Today, a little cleaning then hopefully out in the garden.

We had a thoroughly smashing time at my daughters yesterday as she bravely bbq’d in the rain, my brother and his wife are such easy company, four hours passed in a flash.
Off to the butcher today to collect my order for our family bbq on Sunday and grocery delivery this afternoon.
I’m loving your tales from the river Sar I always think of Three Men in a Boat, plus dog.

Good morning Mick and all from a bright Berkshire. Lovely day yesterday with DD, we saw the changing of the guard at Windsor Castle, some shopping and I bought a nice dress in Mango in the sale, what I call a “go anywhere dress” lunch then on to Surrey to see my BIL and SIL for tea followed by spaghetti bolognaise and a pear and ginger flan.
DD drove and I’m glad I don’t use the M25 myself, so busy…

We go inside the castle today followed by a trip down the river. My sister arrives later and we will eat out, followed by a visit to the ballet. I had a broken night, so hope I don’t feel tired…I’m sorry your tv is not right Mick.

Good morning all and it’s dull but will be sunny this afternoon.

Yesterday we gardened and Dh dug up an old rose bush. Goodness he had trouble getting the root out . Tidied up and cut down the hollyhocks. Theyve been beautiful. Tomatoes are ripening quickly now, so we’ll have a good crop. I wonder how they’re doing at our seaside house🤔. They usually survive and look after themselves. 🤞.
The wind got up in the afternoon and we did have rain. It was lovely to be cool.

Today Dd and little DGD will come over for coffee and a chat. Then we’re off to see our Friday pals. Dd and little gd will go on to see their friends.

Dgd2 was offered the job straight away. Trainee dental nurse. So very pleased for her. That’s 3 of the GC sorted with work now - not a mean feat these days.

Good morning from a cloudy Suffolk where we have sun promised later.

I’m off across the county border to Norwich to meet an old friend for lunch….old in terms of how long I’ve known her as she is at least 10 years younger than me.

I think it has probably changed now but years ago,many people didn’t like to venture from Suffolk into Norfolk for work reasons. It was hard work sometimes encouraging professionals to cross the border!

We were expecting DS and family tomorrow but they have all had a sickness bug and DDinL was the last to succumb a couple of days ago. We’ve cancelled until next weekend so we have a quiet one ahead. DGD1 gets her A level results on Thursday.

She is still hoping for good grades but the anxiety of the wait has gone. She got a message from UCAS about 10 days ago to say that her 1st choice offer had been changed to an unconditional one. She had then to confirm it.

I imagine it is a sign of the anxieties that seem to be prevalent about student numbers and unfilled places in nearly all universities.

Hope today is the best one possible for all.

Good morning all. 14-17° on the Angus coast today - blue skies and sunshine at the moment. The barley field is looking beautifully golden, so harvest must be due.
That's two broken toes on here (Bellasnana and RosesandLilac) so be careful everyone that there's not a third 😉. I hope both toes recover quickly.
The house just needs a little bit more polishing to make it pristine before the Royal Visit by my little great-grandson and his entourage this weekend. Nobody will notice of course, but I will know. And then a food shop. And breathe. Ridiculously excited!
Interesting about your colour clash in the garden Whitewave. I have the accolade of being the world's worst gardener and have strewn wildflower seeds in every available spare space - the result is a cacophony of colour and I'll be repeating that exercise!
Tai chi yesterday was good - I've renamed that particular class The Angus Tai Chi Demonstration Team.

I was lying reading GN, when I heard someone prowling moving downstairs. DH left at 7am to play golf, so I got a fright.
The hardyeejits were driven of the course by windc and torrential rain.

Good morning all from N Bucks where it seems to have rained most of the night. A hot weekend is forecast though, so only a temporary respite.
I had a lovely day in Moseley with D1 and the grandchildren. We walked up to a little and very genuine Italian restaurant in the village for lunch, then home for a slice of the Cherry Clafoutis I had made for them. The boys enjoyed trying to teach me darts in the refurbed former coach house -the boys’ summer holiday project- , but I was rubbish. ( I am tempted to get a dartboard and practise secretly in my garage and surprise them at Christmas!)
It was so nice just to “hang out” as the kids say and apparently GS2 (12) had said to his mummy after I had gone that they should move to Granny’s village! Bless him!
Driving both ways (75 miles) was not a problem and for the first time since February my knees/hips didn’t play up. But I am quite tired today.
Gardener due today and there is a lot of tidying to do . Rosie and I might do some Olympics watching.

Good morning from Malta where it is going to feel like 40°C today.

Roses you have my deepest sympathy regarding your poor toe. We must have a lot of nerve endings in our toes because the pain is excruciating when we hit them. Mine is a bit better but looks horrible! It takes about six weeks to heal if it’s broken.

Yesterday DD3 came over to help me clear the spare room. It used to be her room and was still full of her things which have been sitting there for seven years since she moved out! It took an awfully long time as she found letters, photos, cards etc which all had to be looked at before being kept, binned or recycled. It’s still not finished!

Today Twin 1 has speech therapy so I will sit with his brother who will be most put out that ‘Bubba’ (brother) has gone out with Mama and left him behind. I hope I can keep him happy. He has very strong feelings about most things unlike his brother who takes life as it comes.
