So sorry to hear about your DGD stilllearning but thank goodness she wasn’t badly injured, it sounds awful. I hope she’s recovering ok. The app thing on her phone sounds really good

You poor thing litterpicker hope you’re not too badly bruised, take it easy today x

Marydoll Tue 13-Aug-24 11:54:19

I am sorry to read of the accidents. X

aggie Tue 13-Aug-24 10:30:01

Oh Litterpicker I hope you get over your accident soon , it’s a real shock to the system a fall like that !

Litterpicker Tue 13-Aug-24 10:27:04

So sorry to read of your granddaughter’s accident, Stilllearning. I’m glad her injuries weren’t serious but the psychological trauma will take some time to get over.

aggie Tue 13-Aug-24 10:26:53

Good morning fro a wet cool Co Armagh, I guess the last couple of days was the summer 😳
I’ve to walk down to the surgery later , for my MOT 🤣
The bread maker is thrashing away .I haven’t made bread for a while , but I might enjoy a nice bit of toast and marmalade after my visit to the Nurse , she does take my word for my weight , but I have been cutting back for a couple of weeks in case !
Enjoy the day , I intend to !

Litterpicker Tue 13-Aug-24 10:22:47

Good morning from coastal West Sussex. The heat has been tempered by the sea breeze but our bedroom is very warm so I will be happy to have the temperature drop a little.

Our camper van which we have to park out on the main road near our house, has been under a tree for the past month as there was no other space at the time. Normally one of us would move it but DH has his shoulder/arm pain (waiting for a hospital appointment) and I have been recovering from my pyelonephritis so it stayed there getting stickier and stickier (I think it is a lime but not sure). I decided to bring it in to wash it yesterday afternoon. It was hard work. The only way to do the roof properly is from a ladder. I went up the ladder and did what I could. Coming back down the ladder wobbled and I fell backwards onto the paving. DH helped me into the house and I must have lost consciousness, briefly I think. Next thing I knew an ambulance was being called and I ended up in A&E (for the second time this summer 🙁). All the basic checks were done and I was moved to the ‘ambulatory’ area. By this time I had a headache and just wanted to take a couple of paracetamol and go to bed. I discovered the lady opposite had already been waiting there for 5 hours. Eventually I decided to take the risk and discharge myself. I had a fairly good night’s sleep, topping up the paracetamol when I woke up. I am so cross with myself - I was just getting back to normal.

Anyway, it is good to read of everyone’s days out and in and see Bellasnana’s lovely twins.

Stilllearning Tue 13-Aug-24 10:05:49

Good morning from South Lanarkshire, dull and windy.

Lovely golden boys Bellasnana!

Lovely Sunday/Monday at the farm checking up on DGD2 and family after she was involved in a horrible road traffic accident on the way to her summer job in Tesco’s. 5.30 in the morning a young man drove straight out of a junction giving her no chance of avoiding him. Miraculously they both walked away from it, battered, bruised and certainly in her case and I’m sure in his, very badly shocked.
He has been charged with careless driving but she is obsessed with the thought that she could have killed him. I hope she gets her confidence back soon.

One interesting thing that I had never heard of was that she has some kind of application on her phone that alerted her parents and the emergency services at the moment of the collision so help was on hand really quickly.
I am so so thankful, life could be so different today.

I’m off to Biggar this afternoon to look after DD4’s wee dog while they are at work. He is not at all well and I wish for his sake, they would make the sad but necessary decision.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Good morning from a grey Glasgow!
Woke up in the night with a sneezing fit so went down for some lemsip….not made the cold any better but at least I had a sleep. Can thank my wee GD for leaving me her cold I think!
Ended up going to Braehead shopping centre yesterday to return trainers to Markies and then had a nice cuppa watching the world go by! More like frantic activity as the parents bought the last minute uniforms! 😂
Hoping to go to garden centre
today as my hanging basket has died so need some new plants. Green fingered I’m not but I like a bit of colour at the front door.
I shall now go back and read all ur lovely posts. Enjoy ur day!

Primrose53 Tue 13-Aug-24 09:19:25

Phew! A very hot night in N Norfolk even though I had cold fans running. We sat in the lounge watching TV until 11 last night with patio doors wide open.

It was 32c as we left the hospital yesterday so hoping it will be slightly cooler today when we go again.

Georgesgran Tue 13-Aug-24 09:13:59

Good morning from Durham. It might reach 24 today, but overcast and the chance of a shower later - it definitely feels cooler today.
Builders expected next door and also at a house beyond my garden haven’t shown up yet.
Interesting evening yesterday with DD2 and DGS2 spending a few hours here - lots of tidying after they left. She left Little Dog with me, so a walk with him after my chiropody appointment this afternoon. Not sure yet when I’ll take him home - perhaps tomorrow.
Best wishes to all. X

grandMattie Tue 13-Aug-24 08:50:50

MD, I got my knickers in a twist. Iris cancelled but her sister is still coming. When I realised, I was over the moon that the jaunt hadn’t been cancelled

hollysteers Tue 13-Aug-24 08:45:59

Good morning Mick and all from a brightening northwest coast.
DD FaceTimed me yesterday from the south on the hottest day and isn’t keen on too much heat. It’s fine here and brightening. I’m not sure whether to put washing out as some rain is forecast and I’m out at the music club this afternoon, after a gap re tooth problems, then away.

MOT booked and my hand held Dyson isn’t charging, might need a new battery. I cleaned the car with a pan and brush.
It’s frustrating re your tv Mick.
Enjoy your day grandmattie, thoughts to Ash and all with worries 🌺

Taichinan Tue 13-Aug-24 08:33:35

Good morning all. Not sure what the weather's doing on the Angus coast - take your pick depending on what direction you're looking in. I shall take the blue sky and sunshine over a Basin as still as a millpond and ignore the build-up of fast moving clouds in the other direction.
Yesterday was a frustrating old day trying to persuade my hearing aid to work, but to no avail. I sent my apologies to the tai chi committee meeting - but the Chair, who I messaged, had left her phone at home and didn't get it! There followed some increasingly panicked messages from someone else, which I didn't hear pinging into my phone. I think the next thing might have been Police and ambulance, but luckily I noticed that my phone had been busy and explained everything again! Then at bedtime when I placed my functioning aid into the charger, the 'dead' one did a Lazerus and started to charge as well!! I had certainly cleaned all the terminals earlier but that had had no effect on Lazerus ...... For those of you who know what I'm talking about, Mercury is retrograde just now and it's certainly having an effect on my communications, with a vengeance! Anyway I'm off to Boots Hearing today to see what's what.
I haven't read the posts yet, but will do so later. Am off, after tai chi, to meet DD in Perth for lunch before she, NewMan and their combined families all set off for Grand Canaria tomorrow for a week.
Have a good day everyone x

GrannySomerset Tue 13-Aug-24 08:31:00

It sounds as if you have met your match in those DGDs, Marydoll - good thing you love them so much!

Yesterday wasn’t as hot as threatened so a quiet indoor day was pleasant, though I shan’t be sorry to see the end of this short heatwave. As so many have said, I don’t cope well with extremes of temperature these days. Another annoying penalty of age, I fear. Hope today is kind to us all.

EkwaNimitee Tue 13-Aug-24 08:30:50

Good morning Mick and everyone from bright and breezy Carlisle. No heatwave here yesterday, we might have reached 21°C and it was cloudy all day till late afternoon. I was glad I don't live down south.
Today I'm off to Newcastle on the train, it's a lovely ride. I would drive but I couldn't face the last bit in the city, fast dual carriageways where you have to know where to change lanes for your exit.
I'll be back in time for dinner and a quiet evening.

That's a smart baby Marydoll !

Have a good day everyone.

Marydoll Tue 13-Aug-24 08:21:21

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it is 15°C.
We were lucky, the predicted thunderstorms passed us by.

My gentle day was anything but, DS appeared unexpectedly with BabyD. 😍
She was so funny. We are curtailing her t.v. time, especially her obsession with Hey Duggie. Every time she said Duggie, we deliberately took it as Daddy..
Eventually, a frustrated BabyD handed me the remote control and pointed to the television. When I ignored her, she grabbed the remote and started pressing all the buttons.
She won!

We spent most of the afternoon in the garden. Now that she is walking, she had a ball exploring, especially the solar water fountains. I got out the boules set and she happily played with the balls.
After a while, she kept saying Walk, walk, so I thought we would take a walk round to the front and show her off to my neighbours.
We live at the top of the hill and she promptly threw the ball which she had refused to release down the hill. A strop ensued as the ball gained momentum. Of course I couldn't let go of her hand to retrieve it.
I called for DH who is not deaf and DS, but they were at the back of the house, at the bottom of the back garden.
Once I had deposited her with papa, I went to look for the ball, only to hear laughter from DH's golf partner, who had been observing me, as I tried to look under parked cars for it. Dollie would have a fit, if one was missing. 1😱

The evening was spent, organising the next GlescaGrannies, meet up. I was so proud of myself, when I managed to organise a poll on WhatsApp for choosing the best date. It did work, except for one person.
Well done, Baubles, for working out where I had failed and apologies to Litterpicker.😔
#Pride comes before a fall.
Minesweeper, I sent you a link to join. All the info is on the chat, if you are still interested..

Enjoy your plans, whatever you are doing.
GM, I must have imagined your day with Iris had been cancelled, so enjoy.

harrigran Tue 13-Aug-24 08:21:14

Good morning from a dry and sunny NE.
Yesterday was pleasantly warm without the wind, sat in the garden late afternoon. Watered the patio pots before watching some TV. I have had messages on screen saying I will no longer be able to receive Netflix from September and no iplayer from October, great I have just renewed my licence. Never watch live TV so that is a great inconvenience.
My friend is taking me shopping this morning, maybe read in the garden this afternoon.
I looked out late last night but did not see any of the Perseid shower, DD was hoping to see it as she is in the Verdon gorge and not a lot of light pollution.
Have a good day.

Gingster Tue 13-Aug-24 08:15:44

Good morning all and it’s lovely and cool in the garden, at the moment.

Yesterday we spent the chimes session moving chairs around the garden, chasing the shade. It was so hot we weren’t at our best ! That’s our excuse anyway, 😉. We enjoyed the chat, coffee and cake anyway.

Today I promised my friend I’d go to Play Reading to support /help her , as her co-organiser can’t make it AGAIN!
I’ll then go to my friends for a sandwich and then off to Bridge for the afternoon. It’s nice and cool in the halls.

Nice to see your lovely little chaps Bellasnanna.

Sar youve been away a long time. Those Locks seem to be very ‘hit and miss’. You’re a well seasoned river expert now.
Beautiful places on the Thames. An adventure indeed.

It’s my ds2’s 49th birthday today. I recall it was very hot the day he was born 🥵.

Take care and keep cool 🌸

kittylester Tue 13-Aug-24 08:15:16

Good morning all from a very sunny and sticky North Leicestershire.

We are both jiggered after our drive to and from North Yorkshire for BiL's funeral and wake. It was an event full of happy reminiscence, laughter and song.

DD2 and her girls are still here and they have added a cousin!! I think a trip to the park might be in order.

Have the best day possible everyone.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 13-Aug-24 08:04:06

Sar53 pleased you are enjoying your adventure, despite the holdups 😘

Liberty Tue 13-Aug-24 08:03:30

Good morning from sunny Suffolk where we shall,as yesterday, stay cool indoors although I’m meeting a friend for coffee later and then a pedicure this afternoon.

We were relieved to hear DGD2 arrived safely home to Bristol yesterday from the Boardmasters festival in Newquay….her first time on holiday without adults! She will be 17 next month and is a sensible girl but I always worry about the influence on youngsters from others around them. There were apparently 50,000 from age 16 present.

We were reassured that 2 of the parents taking some of the group from school were staying locally in a hotel in Newquay and so were on hand if need be. Luckily apart from bringing them back to Bristol yesterday, all the needed to do was host the girls to a yummy dinner and hot showers in their hotel one evening.

Hope you have a lovely day in Bath GrandMattie. We often visit when we are with DD1 and family in Bristol and enjoy Sally Lunn buns in the tea shop there. There is a wonderful bookshop… Mr B’s emporium where we have bought book subscriptions for the DGC in the past. A wonderful selection of book and very helpful and knowledgeable staff.

Hope today is a good one for all.

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 13-Aug-24 07:47:44

Morning all from a warm West Oxfordshire. I thought there was supposed to be rain!

Younger son arrived for a few days yesterday. It is his 39th birthday today and we’re going out for lunch. He is very good company and regales us with tales of his job as a Senior Policy Advisor in Westminster. It sounds just like The Thick of It without the swearing!

Have a good day everyone.

monk08 Tue 13-Aug-24 07:45:21

Good morning all from a sunny Black country after yesterday's thunderstorms very welcome.
No plans as yet for today will go with the flow and see where the day takes me.
Have a lovely time in Bath grandMattie. And a lovely photo of the twins Bellasnanna
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️.

RosesandLilac Tue 13-Aug-24 07:44:06

Good morning from sunny south Glos, another warm day today.
What lovely DGCs Bellasnana
I spent yesterday morning doing more needlework, I really am enjoying it. I
DH helped emptying my tomato plants into the compost bins, they’ve been a complete failure this year so I won’t be growing them again. My cucumber plant has two cucumbers so at least that’s a little more successful.
Today I must do some housework 🙄
Have a lovely day everyone 🌹

Sar53 Tue 13-Aug-24 07:42:16

Good morning from Sonning on the bank of the Thames.
What a day we had getting here yesterday. Six locks and only one had a lock keeper, so a steep learning curve for me, how to use a self service lock.
Plus one lock had broken down and we, and a few other boats, were stranded for over two hours. It was so hot. We were finally glad to arrive here eight hours after we set off.
Friends of ours were here too so we had a nice evening drinking and chatting before a good night's sleep.
Today we cannot go as far as we would like as one lock is shut all day for maintenance work.
Although this has been an adventure I will be glad to get home.
Have the best day you can everyone xx
