Do any of you go on Pinterest?

What do you follow?

It seems to hold me hostage some days but I've become obsessed with interiors and carpentry. In fact I have gone as far as to get a man to build me loads of storage, to my specification, painted in farrow and ball. But randomly in the last few days, it has started suggesting narrow boat interiors and van to camper conversions and I'm a bit worried I will end up buying a boat or a van and I can't really afford to.

Today it is showing me cute photos of dogs on really pretty sofas....I fear I am being conditioned

Is there a structure to life on Pinterest? Do you start off wanting bespoke storage solutions and then you go on to buy a narrowboat and then a dog to go on it with you?

Is the next step to sell the house and go live on a boat with a dog?

What do you follow? what does it suggest?

I have the app and have used it but it really gets on my nerves with bombardment daily of things nothing to do with crafts or art, things that don’t interest me, things like Royal gossip celebrities gossip etc etc Not interested in these often malicious gossips

I look at Pinterest way too much, it’s a wonder I get anything else done.

So, Mollygo, did you use any of the helpful tips in decorating your stately home...

I’m still saving up to buy it, but I learned a lot about ceiling roses and linenfold panelling, also a fair bit about replacing cast iron door furniture, none of which are needed in my unstately pile.

biglouis, could you post some photos of your antiques?

This is the galley in my last boat.

I love Pinterest, I’m like you by the sounds of it JaneJudge, I’m always pinching plans from it for my garden, there are some simple and stylish ideas - I’ve been down quite a few woodshed, trellis and raised bed rabbit holes. Not to mention tiaras, I do love a glittery tiara.

Nope - I have given it up, as no matter how many times I have tried to log on, no log on ever works. I have tried to get someone to solve the problem, but if Pinterest has any moderators they apparently just sit on their hands.

Petra, your boat looks lovely 🥰 I’m interested though, did you start by getting obsessed with carpentry or have you always had a boat? 😂

I mostly use Pintrest for recipes, I can save and sort them by course.

It's easy to sink down the rabbit-hole with all the pretty pictures! I just opened mine to check... grey hair inspiration, knitting, recipes, fashion for over 50's, and simple drawings of animals (my grand-daughter loves to draw!)

I'm off to look at boat decor, not that I own one! Petra, beautiful galley!

Like others I hate being bombarded.

The other problem with all the algorithms different sites use, they decide what to show you on what you have already looked at.

Like ebay, buy, say an electric kettle on ebay and every time yoo open it up it is offering youopportunties to buy electric kettle, but you have just bought one and are no longer interested in buying one.

About six months ago I was looking at new hairstyles online. In th end out of the blue my hairdresser suggested a change. i was delighted with it and haven't wanted to see any hairstyles since, but still half of the Pinterest suggestions are hair style sites. That is down from when they all were, but still is half to many.

Houzz is very addictive too, it's worldwide but you can use the UK version.

It’s pretty good for many things. The recipes are great especially the cooking for a crowd ones.Admittedly they are slanted towards the American market but are easily adapted to British measurements.

grandtanteJE65 any site that makes it a faff to log into (I’ll give ‘em a couple of tries) then dump them🤗

Yes I love interest, I think that it has saved me a fortune, as I no longer buy magazines.

Harris27 Wed 21-Aug-24 13:42:00

I use it for ideas for my pre school room. They have some brilliant garden ideas as well.

Thank you, JaneJudge! Have managed to completely miss this somehow.

I've been trying to reorganise a house with too much stuff in it, and having looked at Pinterest, there are lots of ideas for interesting ways to store/organise things, and for different 'looks'. Haven't seen much online that I liked so far.

I was getting fed up with having half-baked ideas, but not quite knowing how to put them together. And it's inspired me, too.
Don't know how long it will last, though. We'll see... Oh dear - think I might be hooked, too!

Tuaim Wed 21-Aug-24 20:23:03

Yes, for inspiration for my art projects.

For all those who say that they are being ‘bombarded’ go to settings and turn off notifications.
