The only connection as far as I can see between our banned/suspended GN friends is that they are right of centre in terms of their politics…
Good Morning Sunday 17th May 2026
Problems in Harry and Meghan Marriage
GNHQ have commented on this thread. Read here.
If this were a light hearted thread, I’d be tempted to suggest that Gransnet is beginning to feel like Midsomer Murders. Yet another poster has disappeared in mysterious circumstances.
It’s deadly serious though. Attempts to contact Urmstongran are falling on stony ground and many of us are concerned because we know how challenging her life is at the moment.
Many of us have received messages of support from Urms when life has dealt us the cruellest of blows and yet we are unable to contact her via pms.
She always let us know when she was taking a break from GN so to go on a long awaited holiday and just disappear is out of character.
I suspect foul play and I’m not taking the p**s!

I always remember someone posting to say that this was their first post, but they had lurked for years and regularly reported people and posts they didn't like.
Fair enough if someone lurks but sees something illegal (ie racist, homophobic or similar) but how someone thinks they have the right to report someone for not liking the tone of their posts when they've never bothered to interact on the forum is beyond me.
As regards being rude to other posters, surely we are all old enough to deal with that, either by ignoring or arguing back? The Internet is not for the faint-hearted, and banning someone for rudeness is unnecessary, so long as they stay within the law.
I posted this on one of the deleted threads, but it bears repeating. Ann Widdicombe, speaking in the Oxford Union, said:
Nobody has the right to live their lives being protected from offence or from insult or from hurt feelings. It is an occupational hazard of living in society and if you really can't take it, become a hermit.
I rarely agree with AW, but in this case I think she speaks a lot of sense.
MissAdventure
Well, on that we will have to agree to differ.
👍
Doodledog on this I totally agree with Ann Widdicombe 👍🏻
I am glad to read that all is well with Urmstongran, apart from a few tech problems. I hope all is well in their 'happy place', with plenty of sunshine and
.
We have discussed this to death in previous, now deleted threads, but I do miss Calistemon's posts even though we didn't always agree. However, unlike many of her huge fan club, I was a target of some clever but barbed posts by GSM who seemed to think she was the only professional retiree on GN. I did not report her though.
I expect this post will be deleted, but I want to give my views, contrary though they may be to the majority!
I hope GG13 doesn't get banned, if so then we know something is wrong. We need some human responses, and that requires a human response.
Ow gawd. Sorry if you do GG13.
When I became a member of GN, we knew the admin, they posted occasionally and had a laugh with us.
We had daft threads about Witches, Pubs etc and, although people fell out, we all coped. We were, maybe, more wary of certain posters but we carried on.
Is it a reflection of society now that people are easily offended?
I posted a few weeks ago to point out that as GN was attracting negative media attention, and it was likely that search engine algorithms were likely being affected by some of the racist/ xenophobic/ misogynist language used here, it would not be at all surprising if Mumsnet cracked down a bit, not least because it’s a site that relies on advertising revenue and thus has to be mindful of any risk to that.
I think it’s naive not to think that people, who may not even post here, won’t draw the mods or site managers attention to posts they believe breach either the site’s guidelines, or even the law, and that those concerns won’t be investigated.
It’s equally possible, of course, that there are trigger words or phrases which automatically raise red flags.

Well, if we knew what they were we could communicate in code.
Anyone have any historical connections to Bletchley Park? 😂

Ooh.
It could be that GNHQ are using bots or whatever they are. And are less reliant on humans.

We all hoped that.
I had a secret code with my friend when we were about 10 if that's any help. We formed a club with a motto and we had to be kind to animals.
I cannot understand why GSM has been banned. She was abrupt at times but I liked her informative, helpful and straight to the point posts. I do hope she returns. Is a ban permanent or a certain period of time. I am fairly new to GN so intrigued into what’s going on!

Yes, I think so. Though I got told I was easily offended recently when I said a post was offensive, meaning to people with disabilities. It’s a minefield!

If GNHQ is now GNAI, I think we’re all doomed, Cap’n Mainwaring.
I’m also pleased all is well with Urmstongran. I hope she is having a lovely holiday and will soon be back on the Good morning thread.
I enjoy waking to read all the Good mornings but don’t always post as I feel sometimes I don’t have much to say but then just a Good morning lets people know you are there.
Absolutely , GrannyIvy. A quick good morning would be fine. Having said that, I don’t post as regularly on the good morning thread as I once did, probably for similar reasons 😁, but sometimes it’s because I’ve come to the thread rather late in the day.
I remember my first really remembering of Calistemon as I had posted a question about my bottle brush plant and she said something along the lines of ‘yoohooo I’m here’ 😂
Somethings that she posted made me wonder if we lived in an area known to us both (hope that makes sense).
Anyway here’s a 👋 to all
Hello Beechnut. Are you my long lost sister?
Or just another nut?
best wishes from Chestnut 🌰
GrannyIvy I don’t know this at all , but from what I read in the earlier threads (now deleted) GSM made some rather nasty comments about a politician that were subsequently printed in the Daily Mail which led to her banishment ….
about Callistemon I have no idea at all I don’t remember her ever being controversial
As I said I don’t know this so it’s second hand but someone said that’s what had happened in the deleted thread

A pair of nuts.
I’ve missed both GSM and Urmstongran, I have found them fundamental to the fabric of Gransnet somehow.

Not sure about sister but nut means we are related 🌳🌳
MissAdventure 😂
Does anyone know of a poster who has been permanently banned? I thought it was normally for a period of time.

Quite a few posters have been permanently banned. In some cases I’ve been relieved because if they targeted you it could be very unpleasant but Callistemon and GSM did not fit into that category.
