Another missing poster

If this were a light hearted thread, I’d be tempted to suggest that Gransnet is beginning to feel like Midsomer Murders. Yet another poster has disappeared in mysterious circumstances.

It’s deadly serious though. Attempts to contact Urmstongran are falling on stony ground and many of us are concerned because we know how challenging her life is at the moment.

Many of us have received messages of support from Urms when life has dealt us the cruellest of blows and yet we are unable to contact her via pms.

She always let us know when she was taking a break from GN so to go on a long awaited holiday and just disappear is out of character.

I suspect foul play and I’m not taking the p**s!

Tell GSM to come back under another name! There’s one on here who does that on a regular basis. 🤣

GN has to answer to the advertisers, and other media presumably.

Plus, I came across that GN like other outlets are suing open AI I think it is called.

Perhaps they are having to be "more careful" in some ways?

fancythat Sat 31-Aug-24 15:16:32

Mumsnet, though that and GN are the same, effectively?

I am another who doesn't understand the banning of some posters. GSM could be robust in her replies but she was never rude to another poster as far as I'm aware. I was very surprised that Callistemon was banned. She has a great sense of humour and again I haven't seen any reason for banning her.
I have never reported anyone and wonder who is pressing that report button.
Sending good wishes to all those missing. I hope you come back soon.
Gransnet isn't as good without you.

BlueBelle Sat 31-Aug-24 15:34:08

I wonder if it’s new posters that are doing the reporting lately, there have been a lot of posts re family problems from posters whose names I don’t recognise at all I can’t imagine it’s posters who have been on here for years suddenly doing umpteen reports…. why ? if they ve managed to plough through the years without problems previously

Allsorts Sat 31-Aug-24 15:35:06

I hope GSM comes back and under her own name why should she change it.? Goodness knows why it was deemed necessary to ban I guess the only person who did reported her as I certainly saw nothing.

MissAdventure Sat 31-Aug-24 15:41:34

Once again, people reporting just draw attention to a post.

It is gnhq who decide on what course of action to take.

Is nobody taking this onbard at all? Gnhq have explianed it themselves.

She would never do that. She is a woman of her word and chooses them carefully.

If this thread does disappear as did its predecessors, it will only be because someone has reported it and alerted HQ.

Should it be reported, perhaps said reporter would let us know of his/her intention in advance, ideally with reasoning and have the courage of their own conviction in doing so.

You are robbing us of many in our GN friendship groups.
Groups which mean a lot to many on here.

GrannyGravy13

merlotgran I tried that the other day.

I reported my post and asked for assistance for Urms my request was ignored…

I have also contacted HQ twice with a heartfelt plea and been ignored both times. Then when I reported a scammer I had a reply from Mumsnet HQ which has never happened before.

MissAdventure Sat 31-Aug-24 15:55:53

Telling GSM what to do is never the right thing, I'd imagine smile

In my 13 years on GN I can’t recall seeing anything that I felt warranted a poster being permanently banned. You’d think it’d have to be very extreme, and it doesn’t make for an interesting site. Nor does deleting posts - unless they’re breaking the law, they should imho stand so that they can be seen and assessed and contested by others - some threads end up with so many gaps they barely make a lick of sense.

I hope all those missing in action get back soon. At the very least we could have a list of the members banned or on probation (or inadvertently locked out 😊), so that at least we’d know they’re well and when they’ll be let out.

kittylester Sat 31-Aug-24 15:57:14

Gg13, I have reported your post. I don't think I have ever done that before!!

BlueBelle, I wonder if it is newer posters who report too. I think those of us who have been here longer are more tolerant as we 'know' people better - a bit like the one person in your social group that we just cope with rather than actively like.

MissAdventure Sat 31-Aug-24 15:58:00

People who are banned may not appreciate all and sundry knowing, though.

kittylester Sat 31-Aug-24 15:58:29

To be honest I have reported posts previously. Those daft over night ones - never a regular poster.

It almost seems like HQ has been deserted and is being run by AI bots. They do not reply to e-mails, they just ban people with no explanation if they are reported. There doesn't seem to be any human responses and Mumsnet is replying instead. It does seem rather weird as though something is not quite right.

MissAdventure Sat 31-Aug-24 16:02:25

All you are doing is putting new posters off, with all this "courage of their convictions" stuff.

As a "long standing and well respected" member, i think its off putting.

We can but try.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 31-Aug-24 16:04:22

Kittylester 👍🏻

MissAdventure Sat 31-Aug-24 16:05:47

When I have been told off by gnhq I was told why.
Told why, and told that I would be suspended if I did it again.

It was me and phoenix being daft, so we thought, anyway.

I hope GG13 doesn't get banned, if so then we know something is wrong. We need some human responses, and that requires a human response.

Oh, I think they do.

If it’s the result of a heated discussion it brings closure on their disappearance.

MadeInYorkshire Sat 31-Aug-24 16:09:27

Oh dear has GN HQ been vetting our posts so we too can be thrown into jail for any hurty words?

Seems like it’s government policy so maybe the same here now? Await the knock on the door!

MissAdventure Sat 31-Aug-24 16:09:51

Well, on that we will have to agree to differ. smile
