Just read this on the news...an 80 year old man was attacked in a Leicestershire park while walking his dog, by 5 children aged 12 to 14, boys and girls, the man has since died, what is happening in this country, when children this age can do something like this...

Asking what is happening is no help. It happened.
We had a stabbing here recently, the first of its kind close to where I live, but that was adults. Shocking I agree.

The details and facts behind this story will be out soon.

Meanwhile my question is, what are we doing to our children?

Gin Tue 03-Sept-24 13:33:40

It is quite unbelievable isn’t it? I have just this moment read the story out to my OH. What on earth have these children been watching to turn into such monsters and what will the parents be thinking? It is quite beyond belief.

closing youth clubs and sure start centres by the last gov't was a big mistake.

I imagine having nothing to do all day would have contributed not that that makes it excusable.

There are still over 2,000 Sure Start Centres open.

I have an idea, how about parents teaching their children the difference between right and wrong?

I agree plus possibly parents out at work or elsewhere

I hear what you’re saying, but honestly most parents do this, and it’s reenforced
in most Primary Schools.

It’s utterly shocking and clearly unacceptable

Smileless2012 Tue 03-Sept-24 14:27:19

Having nothing to do all day doesn't contribute to such an act of violence. Raising children is the responsibility of their parents, not the government.

00opsidia Tue 03-Sept-24 14:37:03

It's shocking! There was a spate of crime recently which was blamed on immigrants. All I know is, the lads were stupid enough to get caught on camera and they were white. One had a dirty face, but the idiot had pink arms. I read the comments on the news story and there were so many racist comments, but they were not coloured people.
I think people don't want to admit it's our people doing the crime often. Where are the parents?

AGAA4 Tue 03-Sept-24 14:44:17

I find it horrifying and sad that children blight their own lives with senseless acts of violence. Something is badly wrong in our society these days.

kittylester Tue 03-Sept-24 15:03:35

The local police force have referred them selves to the relevant body (forgotten the name) as they have had contact with the victim previously.

Braunstone Town (the area of Leicester) had lots of incidences of crime a few years back but had seemed to have been turned round. I hope this is not a return to the bad old days.

So many children killing other children. I know it might sound a tad too easy to blame the internet but if there are suicide sites encouraging young people to commit suicide is not too much of a stretch to assume there are sites encouraging youngsters to commit murder.
Have heard of the dark web and it terrifies me. Of course none of us could function without the internet now but is this a good thing? I mean if we can’t police it and stop online bullying, incitement to riot, or far worse as I have mentioned, what sort of world has this become.
Was glad to see that some of those who incited the riots have now been given prison sentences, but that is just the tip of a very big iceberg.

00opsidia Tue 03-Sept-24 15:25:01

You're right, Babs03. I started looking at the London news more as I can't believe there is not more being done.

A disabled man was killed on a mobility scooter in London and hardly anything was said. People are robbed all the time in London and nothing is said at the time. People keep blaming immigrants but the CCTV of the last few London crimes I've seen has been white people, unmistakable.

Allira Tue 03-Sept-24 15:30:08

This is just truly shocking.

Children have been left to their own devices for years - we were sent out to play, met up with friends, played tennis, rode our bikes, took a picnic and no-one ever thought of doing anything like this. My children would go off, play football in the park, tennis etc and never got into trouble.

What on earth are they watching on the internet?

Not all black or Asian people are immigrants 🤔
Some are born here, some have been here for generations.
Some immigrants are white.

Skydancer Tue 03-Sept-24 15:33:24

The internet is the cause of it. Sorry but it needs to be policed. Young minds are not able to understand the disgusting content they are able to see online.

Oops that's true. I was against people saying it's always coloured people because the skin was white and it's not fair to blame drker skinned people for the crimes of paler skinned people. I definitely get your point about imigrants being from European countries and agree. I didn't word that at all well.

Boz Tue 03-Sept-24 15:37:46

The victim is an Asian man who has lived here for 40 years.

🙂

You did say people not you yourself and that is in fact true, eople do, judging by the recent riots.

Boz Tue 03-Sept-24 16:01:25

It strikes me there are a lot of angry children out there, with little respect for age - little respect full stop. Frightening really.

Shelflife Tue 03-Sept-24 16:35:52

It's a very frightening issue and beggers belief. What in Gods name is happening to our children!? Children are running riot and have no fear of the consequences, no fear of punishment and definitely no respect for the lives of others. I have no idea whether its the material they are watching online
or parents not teaching their children the difference between right and wrong. I do feel very strongly that we expose children to too much information and society treats them as little adults - they are not adults they are children with developing brains that are incapable of processing adult information! I recognize that times have changed but teachers are now responsible for teaching sex education and all that entails! I am not against sex education but just how far does that go , what are they learning in the classroom? I know a teacher who was asked to explain wet dreams to primary school children. What do GNetters think ?

The parents of these children are like the mother, yesterday, who went on holiday in Ibiza when her 12 year old son was appearing in court on 2 very serious violence offences. They have children and then abrogate all responsibility for bringing them up, leaving them to run feral like cats.

We are going back to the 19th century when feral abandoned children roamed the street fighting fo survival and ending up being recruited for thieves kitchen, like thats so well prtrayed in Oliver Twist, where Fagin takes in abandoned boys and trains them to be pickpockets and thieves.

sodapop Tue 03-Sept-24 16:41:58

Absolutely agree Shelflife not enough time spent teaching and showing by example the core values of life. Respect, tolerance, kindness etc. Not the total responsibility of schools, parents must take more care of their children
