Today I was trying to renew my home insurance Now it seems virtually impossible to speak to a human, even to do that you have to go through a robot and my poor little robot could not understand my post code I speak very ordinary English I have absolutely no accent at all but every time I told her my post code she got one letter wrong most often saying ā€˜Y’ when I said ā€˜E ā€˜even ā€˜Eeee’ and then I got ā€˜that doesn’t match’
We played this game a few times and then I shouted at the poor little thing I didn’t hear her cry but I think I must have hurt her feelings with my frustrations
Have you ever abused a robot 😢

Have you tried 'echo' instead of E? Don't know if it would work but it might be worth a try.

I just kept saying no when it kept asking if it was correct. Eventually, it gave up and transferred me to a real person.

Chatbots are the worst, you put in a question that they don’t understand and they refer you back to the main site where you try to navigate your way to a phone number but instead find yourself back with the chatbot. Many sites don’t show a phone number or email address anymore.

Yes she poor little thing gave up and eventually I got a nice gentleman (with a very strong accent) but we did get there 🤣

I was once on a site which invited people to submit book reviews. I had just read a book by Caroline Slowcock and I started to write the review but when I typed in the author's name an icon came up saying I had been blocked from the site for using offensive language. A very offended robot.

As Tony Han** used to say "You wouldn't credit it, would you?"

Indigo8 Sat 11-Jan-25 14:20:25

Sorry Han**

The GN robot keeps deleting two of the stars but I am sure most people know who I mean..

It's a good job you did not try typing Scunthorpe smile

I was suspended for a week on GN for calling out a BOT šŸ˜‚

BlueBelle Sat 11-Jan-25 16:50:28

I can only think of Tony Hancock but that’s not two stars

In a similar vein!
Hoping this link will work.

The missing stars are because GN only prints the first and last of a star word.

When I was a child my parents had friends whose surname was, er, the same as Tony's. I wrote to them once to thank them for a present, but spelt their name with Hang where it should have been Han. That would definitely get censored by the purity bots. I did wonder why they laughed so much about the letter.

Oh yes. But I don't feel a bit sorry.
Why do they not understand the word nought for 0? Why do they prefer O? Nor did she understand my postcode.
So I told her not to be so stupid.

You are right Bluebelle I do mean Tony Hancock but for some reason the GN bot wouldn't let me put 4 stars.

Siri can't understand a word I say. Odd as I have a neutral accent. We no longer speak since I last screeched at her/him/them/it...

Ahh the frustration of living in 2025! I understand it well.

I use the NATO alphabet to give spellings. This is for robots and people. I learned it a long time ago in an IT context and now do it automatically

Granmarderby10 Mon 13-Jan-25 05:17:33

I muttered ā€œstupid machinesā€ when Siri popped up on my iPad - (unbidden might I add) she replied ā€œthat’s not very niceā€!😲

I shout at robots all the time but I still don't get to speak to a person.

But there are human robots that treat people like dirt funny enough they tend to be in government departments

My blind daughter uses Siri all the time. She doesn't have an accent but Siri often turns one of her phrases into 'It was a f***ing lovely day.' We've had many a giggle about it. šŸ˜„

I did once ask a lady on the phone if she was a real person.
She said that she was though I'm still not convinced.
I did apologise because it's a terribly rude question.

My husband does it deliberately for that very reason. He talks in a way that it could be sensible but it's nonsense and he gets transferred to a real person in the same way that another cauliflower is over the canal when it rains each lane on the motorway before Tideswell happens. It's quite funny and it works. AI sucks!

DaisyL Tue 14-Jan-25 12:24:31

Apparently if you use offensive language you will transferred to to real person but not sure I want to do that - might get put on a black list.
