Taking the plunge and buying a thermomix, any advice.

I have been looking at Thermomix for years but never felt I could justify the price, I think I am going to take the plunge as we will hopefully be moving next month and I will be losing a beautiful Lacanche range with 3 ovens for a basic oven!

I feel the Thermomix will be a really useful tool.

Have any of you got any experience of a Thermomix?

No experience. I had to Google it! If you’re a keen ‘chef’ it looks amazing. All singing all dancing all everything according to Good Housekeeping! But, eye wateringly expensive.

I have had one for over 10 years, find it very good, easy to clean.

I assume you will be getting the new digital model, I have thermomix envy 😹

My DD has had one for a few years, and uses it constantly. Very, very expensive

I know nothing about the Thermomix but we changed from a double oven to a single oven with warming drawer.

This is fine when there are two of us but I really miss the other oven when we have family around. It takes a lot of forethought and menu changing to get timings to fit.

The Thermomix does look very interesting but it does so many different things.

Yes the digital is the one, I’m working on the basis that my husband will at least eat some decent food if I die first.

I see loads of them for sale on Second hand sites- so it's clear they are not really that good for many. The price second hand is huge, so how much is a new one?

A lot of people upgrade to a new model and sell the old ones.

RRP is around £1400.

You beat me to it Sago I was just going to post the same.

Our AS upgrades his when a new model is available.

Thermos is big in Germany. I haven't got one because it would mean that several of my other gadgets, that I have spent money on, would then be redundant.

If I was starting from scratch, I would just get the Thermomix as, even at the price of €1500 it would replace a slow cooker, mixer, chopper, juicer, air fryer and even oven and microwave. A former colleague of mine, a whole food and vegan freak, also swore by it for grinding grains, coffee, nuts etc. Obviously ideal if you don't have much space.

B***y predictive text. I meant "Thermomix" obviously

Thanks. The ones I've seen recently for sale, are all recent Models and hardly used.

What do you find yours best for!
Do you use it daily/weekly?
I make all my own curry spices, pâtés, soups and butter, I know it will do all this well but how does it handle casseroles, risotto etc?

I have the steamer dish attachment, which means veggies in the bottom and fish on the top.

DH has made marmalade in it, I have made chutney.

Seldom make a casserole or risotto as DH is not a fan.

The recipe book which comes with it is good, and their website has lots of additional recipes.

You can also sign up for a demonstration course.

Yes they do. DD1 upgraded the one she had for years, she thinks they're wonderful. DD2 has one as well. They can multitask not just cook.

The only thing I've noticed when we've stayed there is thst it seemed to be rather noisy. Newer models may be quieter but I havent seen her new one yet.

Seeing the news item about air fryers catching fire and causing damage to homes has made me think twice about getting one of those and investigating the Thermomix instead although they are much more expensive.

As Thermomix owners upgrade they will sell their older models.

That shows how sturdy, well-made and durable they are.

I love mine. I would suggest getting a second bowl which is a godsend - it was a special offer. I am buying mine on finance which is the only way I could afford it - only a couple of months to run.. I have already cooked a butter chicken sauce this morning. especially brilliant for soups as it cooks as well as preps.

Every gadget seems that bit more seductive than the last!
So far I have (and regularly use) my pressure cooker, slow cooker, soup maker, blender (both “stick” and freestanding) microwave, range cooker, Magimix and Kenwood Chef. - with Juicer and mincer attachments.
I have ditched the ice cream maker however- feeling v.smug.
I am resisting an air fryer too or I might have to extend the kitchen.

As both DDs keep telling me - "Buy a Thermomix, Mum, then you can ditch all other gadgets" 😃

Was gifted a big double air fryer recently.

But still got my Kenwood Chefette- first gadgetI ever owned. Got it with Green Shield Stamps from the Garage in Roehampton, 1971 Never fails, ah!

Allira Fri 21-Feb-25 17:41:25

I gave away my first Kenwood Chef when we moved house but bought another one not long ago after nearly 40 years.

Still dithering about an air fryer.
The Thermomix is too expensive and I probably wouldn't get the best out of it anyway.

I’ve still got the Kenwood Chef that was a wedding present 50 years ago. It did go on the blink 10 years or so ago but we had it fixed and serviced, and it’s still going strong.

I’ve got a Kenwood Chef and I’ve found it very useful. Growing up, my mum and all my aunts had one. They loved them.

Perhaps I'd better mention it in my will!!
