Taking the plunge and buying a thermomix, any advice.

I have been looking at Thermomix for years but never felt I could justify the price, I think I am going to take the plunge as we will hopefully be moving next month and I will be losing a beautiful Lacanche range with 3 ovens for a basic oven!

I feel the Thermomix will be a really useful tool.

Have any of you got any experience of a Thermomix?

My Kenwood chef did sterling service but when it failed I replaced it with a Kitchenaid which is excellent but hardly ever used as getting it coincided with my H dying and me giving up baking .
I am loathe to give it up in case inspiration ever strikes again , very, very unlikely.

No idea what is is! grin

Actually, I really liked my old Breville mixer. It did the job, was light and easy to put away in a cupboard when not in use.

The Kenwood is like a lead weight and will have to stay out on the work surface.

My bestie who liked to cook but needed a little confidence bought one and uses it all the time. She swears by it. Am a little envious

I don't own a Thermomix, but I know someone who is a Thermomix advisor. I am in the East Midlands, so if that is anywhere near you, I could give you her contact details.

It took me a while to weigh up the pros and cons but finally decided to get magimix cook expert instead of the thermomix. It has a larger capacity and is more flexible. Have had it for about 4 years now and use it all the time.

I definitely don’t do enough cooking to warrant such a gadget at such a price 😵‍💫😬

They are very popular in Australia. My cousin made a great carrot cake in hers plus my brother’s partner used hers to make soup. I did scrambled eggs very quickly in it. Not sure I need one though as I have air fryer, slow cooker, hand mixer, stick blender etc and they do seem quite large if your space is limited.

Yes, nearly all the Australians I know seem to have a Thermomix!

Apparently you can get rid of all other gadgets, Susieq62, if you buy a Thermomix!

I upgraded to the newest mode with full internet connection but keeping my old one as well. Its fab being able to use 2 at the same time. However a thermomix does definitely not replace an airfryer. And am also keeping my slow cooker since the capacity is good for huge pieces of meat. Same goes for conventional sous vide... but here the Thermomix is so much less fuss that i just make do with the small bowl.
It is a must have for all kind of sauces , zabaglione, and deserts...
Cakes and breads and soups and making specialists flouers and grains.
Takes the guessing out of it. Even if you dont use the guided cooking. It does stuff to a degree that no other gadget does. Most good restaurant kitchens have them.

I had no idea what a Thermomix does so just looked it up. I honestly don't think I'd use it enough to justify the money. I'm deliriously happy with my airfryers (one also grills, one is a pressure cooker). Also have a Magimix and a KitchenAid - though I rarely use these now.
Many people seem to love their soup makers, though I use my pressure cooker and stick blender for this. I'm perfectly happy making sauces, whipped puddings and desserts with the kit I've already got - though I might feel differently if I had more storage in my kitchen!

The idea of making scrambled eggs in such a huge piece of kit is entirely beyond my comprehension! I'm happy with my little non-stick pan and flat whisk...

When my Kenwood Chef was delivered, with many attachments in separate boxes, 4-year-old son plaintively asked his dad," Are all those toys for Mummy?"
50 years later, I wouldn't change it.
It's too late for a Thermomix for me.

I can’t see the dates in this review, but it’s quite comprehensive:

Thank you but not in my area, I had a demonstration some years ago but the machines have moved on since then.

Never heard of it but presume it’s something to do with cement.

Mojack26 Sun 23-Feb-25 23:19:32

What is it? 🤣 Never heardof it

Gr8dame Tue 25-Feb-25 06:04:42

Would never spend that amount of money on a gadget and often wonder if it’s just another manufacturer taking the p***.
Only thing I’ve ever fallen in love with in my kitchen was an extremely old and “seen better days” Rayburn which was not pretty and had no hot plate covers but I cooked everything in it and it kept me warm in my old cottage and I lived in my kitchen. Happy days 😊

Homestead62 Tue 25-Feb-25 10:48:00

I'm afraid I do not know what a Thermomix is.

RosieandherMaw Tue 25-Feb-25 10:54:37

To those who have never heard of Thermomix, may i respectfully suggest Google?

Homestead62 Tue 25-Feb-25 11:00:17

Sure Rosie.

Homestead62 Tue 25-Feb-25 11:05:56

Well Rosie I Googled and needed a lie down after seeing the price and then looking at how to operate it lol. All that money for a glorified food mixer! I don't mean to disrespect anyones choices, but definitely not my thing. For myself being honest, another thing to sit on the counter top which I wouldn't use. Just me though.

It’s a long way from a glorified food mixer!
As someone who makes my own bread, butter, mayonnaise, pesto, pates, soups etc it would be a godsend.

I have had a Thermomix risotto that would rival any restaurant, it depends how you live and how you cook.

My husband has limited skills in the kitchen, he could follow a cookidoo recipe and I would get a night off!
