Cuthbert, Dibble and Grub. Anyone remember these little firemen from Trumpton? For some reason I started thinking about them this morning and remember sitting to watch Trumpton, Camberwick Green and, I think the other one was Chigley, over the years with grandchildren. They were such lovely stories, personally think they were nicer than those they have these days.

I had a manager who sounded just like Custard from Roobarb and Custard.

My daughters both loved pigeon street especially the lorry driver who I think was called long distance Clara

You’ve just beaten me to it, nannafizz! I’ve just been checking through the thread to see if anyone had mentioned Pigeon Street, which my lot loved.

My DS was obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine. We used to rush home from playgroup to watch it. I had a cutter in the shape of an engine that I used to use on his lunchtime sandwiches. Happy days (though I did think, and still do, that the Thomas books were really boring).

Going back to my day, my mother hated Bill and Ben - she thought I’d end up copying the way they spoke. grin

Maggiemaybe I so agree with your judgement on Thomas the Tank Engine : a more boring piece of writing does not exist.
My background is Early Years teaching, and am passionate about literature for the young, but I just couldn't read Rev Awdry's terrible prose, even to please my besotted son.
I resorted to story tapes...remember them ?
