Conspiracy Theory anyone?

There has been much discussion on the book Becoming Brigitte by Xavier Possard.

Based on a conspiracy theory, being thoroughly researched by several French journalists, culminating in this book.

For those yet in in the know, the author Possard sets out in his book a timeline of events to prove that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman ie born a man transitioned to a woman.

Met Macron as a 14year old school boy, whilst living as a woman and his teacher.

If anyone has read it, what are your views?

Here are some more to jog your memories.

JFK murdered by Mossad/CIA/Mafia
Covid came from a lab leak in Wuhan
Mrna vaccines leak foreign DNA into our bodies
Moon Landings are faked
Michelle Obama is also a transitioned man.
Barack Obama is having an affair with Jennifer Anniston (although I'm not sure if this is just classed as a rumour ).
The world is flat
CO2 is heating up the world
We have been invaded by Aliens (UFO type) who look like lizards
4/5G damages human DNA
GM plants will infest natural plants

to name a few.

Are there any others I don't know about and haven't listed here?

Is it purely the weight of evidence which sways a reader to decided such-and-such is no longer a conspiracy?

Or the weight of authority ie The King/Prim Minister/expert now believe this so I must rethink it also?

Or time passing, so the event in question no longer has the political strength to prevent or encourage a certain outcome?

More interestingly, is there a position once considered a conspiracy theory, that you held but later on changed your mind?

In chat because it could be interesting and lighthearted.
Not argumentative or political, but who knows this is GN grin

Actually, being a naturally curious person (DH says nosey) I used to like some of the more light hearted CT, but after Diana died and then through COVID those perpetuating CTs became a little manic and went far far down the rabbit hole whilst calling the rest of us “sheep”

It all became a bit much for me

Well that is understandable, especially about the sheep comments.

I don't agree with conspiracy theories at all, but I find this thread interesting, the OP is just trying to ascertain what other posters think.
Every poster has a right to a opinion, but some have been a bit mean. The theory on Brigitte Macron is interesting though.

Thank you for your calm post grin

Just to say Covid was an exceptionally emotional time wasn't it?

Some very rude & slightly narrow-minded Grans responding to the original poster on this topic!
Remember the saying.........
'There are more things in Heaven and Earth"
Sorry can't remember the rest!
I blame the dog for woofing for his walk. 🥴

"Than are dreamt of in your philosophy Horatio"

I hope dog enjoyed his walk.

Although I think most CTs and unsubstantiated rumours are rubbish, there is at least a grain of truth in some of them; including some of the ones cited by the OP.

Thank you Ilovedogs22
I always love it when someone can come up with a Shakespearean quote, plus you love dogs, win win smile

Indigo8 ... There are so many, I've never noticed if any were resolved, with the exception of Galileo (heliocentric system). which was a kind of conspiracy theory, maybe if you squint at it for a long time, perhaps grin

I know a journalist of a very well known newspaper and they informed me that they had seen photographic evidence to prove that she was born a man. Were the photos fake? Who knows. I most definitely believe the journalist though. They were not allowed to publish them.

Well for a kick off a man is an adult human male. No one in the history of the world was born a man, I assume your learned friend meant she was born male?

Secondly what does this evidence show? Can you clearly identify her as a male in the photo? Are you sure it is her, are you sure she is male, why do you care, what does it matter?

So do please explain the photos to us.

Curious that this man managed to have three children!

Presumably the journalist and a photographer were in the labour room, ready to collect evidence in the hope that one day this newborn baby would marry someone famous.

I think some people should actually read the book!

I doubt the answers will be found here.

CTalking about the example given, I've read quite a lot about the Macrons, in both French and English articles. The thing is, that they are an unusual couple in many respects, so maybe the conspiracy theory was just another story to pick on, and it grew legs?

I haven’t read the docs myself . Maybe you should.

why?
As I said this thread wasn't about the veracity of the book. More about peoples responses to it .

Well that’s my response.

...more about peoples responses to it....^
Well thats my response...
😆
Took me a while, but I got there in the end.

On reflection, you've responded to me and my comments and not the book, so.....?

That sounds very interesting escaped. I would love to hear/read what you thought of the articles you read. Particularly the French ones.

I believe the French have a very redacted press.
Meaning they can say even less about dignitaries or politicians than we can.

Bit confusing to include some items that are facts and not "conspiracy theories" on there, ie:

- it's been all over the newspapers over the last week or so with the proof that Covid did indeed escape from that Chinese lab. Just as some of us have been saying all along. The Germans knew and Angela Merckl hushed it up. The British knew and Boris Johnson was quite clear it had come from that lab. Looks like everyone lied to protect their "relationship" with the Chinese government - who, as we know, have such a great regard for the truth (not!!!!)

- We've also known for some time that we don't want GM plants planted near normal plants - because they do contaminate them.

Yes I know what you mean.
Or at least I suppose you are suggesting there will be lies or supposition in the book?

But I'm supposing there will be time lines of events, that can be verified.
Presuming that to be the case, readers can decide which parts if any they accept and those which they don't.

But as I keep saying this isn't about BM but about our attitude to conspiracy theories as a whole and ideas we don't like, how or if we ever change our minds, and how we deal with people with different opinions to ours.

Do you feel strongly about either the trans movement or BM NotSpaghetti?

Who cares who’s a man or who’s a woman as long as they both know what’s what and who’s who
Can’t be bothered with conspiracy theories people believe what they want to believe like now a lot of people don’t think the stranded astronauts have even been out of US 🤣

Personally, having researched the journalist who wrote the book about Mme Macron, He is anything but a neutral seeker after truth.

Xavier Poussard is the protegee of an extreme right wing writer and polemicist called Emmanuel Ratier, (now deceased). He was virulently anti-semitic and promulgated several conspiracy theories about the hidden Jewish takeover of France.

Here is a link to a very interesting article linking this form of sexual slur to a rightwing desire to drive women out of politics.
www.france24.com/en/live-news/20240329-disinformation-targeting-brigitte-macron-spreads-beyond-france

Mme Macron is also suing two women in the courts for libelling her by promulgating this lie.

As for the photo, well I will just type the two letters, AI, Mme Macron is not the first and will not be the last woman in the public sphere who has suffered from AI generated naked photos.

As for ^ the journalist of a very well-known newspaper^ Well, does anyone remember the News of the World and how even leading journalists were prepared to believe anything, regardless of truth, if it made a good story.

escaped Tue 18-Mar-25 18:46:34

The interesting bit is, for me anyway Namsnanny, what Brigitte herself actually said to French journalists. I can't remember her exact words, but it was something like she and Emmanuel were not an "ideal" couple in the sense of their ages, and that things were complicated. I'm guessing she just gives a subtle gallic shrug to any stories, so we shall never know either way on several counts.

I don't think it is necessary to invent conspiracy theories about her, you just repeat the details of how they met.

Casdon Tue 18-Mar-25 19:05:53

I don’t understand why people care about these things. What difference would it make to us who Macron or Obama were married to - none whatsoever to me, it doesn’t affect their ability to do their jobs. I’ve never heard a conspiracy theory yet that is worth following, I must be a cynic.

I couldn't agree more.

Unless or until it affects the emotional security, physical safety and or financial stability of my family, and by extension the world we live in.

Why on earth do you think some and I presume it is a lot of people, think the astronauts haven't left USA? There must be a reason for this opinion.

If so is that such a bad thing? It is always good to keep questioning.

Honestly no one cares what people do, provided it doesn't harm others.

Surely that's the standard.
Does this behaviour harm anyone?

If we don't get to know something approximately calling itself the truth about a person, how are we to know what harm is happening?

Churchview Tue 18-Mar-25 20:23:13

In a one man protest against ridiculous conspiracy theories my husband devised on of his own. Over the years he's told his theory to many people in response to having to suffer hearing their own theories. Then once, to his delight, a complete stranger at a party relayed DH's conspiracy theory to him almost verbatim and as though it were absolute fact. Thus proving how these things go around and around.

So here it is. The London Underground doesn't exist. It's a money making exercise by the government via London Transport. You buy a ticket, walk along a series of corridors and escalators, get into a fake carriage which wobbles about a bit, makes a noise, lights flash. There are even fake delays to convince you it's real. You get off, do walk a considerable distance again, some escalating more walking and finally pop up out of the tunnel to the street at your destination. The whole journey has been done on your own two feet.

Remember you heard it here first.

No I don't feel strongly.
If people are transgender it doesn't impact me. I feel "live and let live" to be honest.

Brigitte Macron is of no interest really - except in a casual way. I do think she always looks good though! Not sure that's relevant.
