Conspiracy Theory anyone?

There has been much discussion on the book Becoming Brigitte by Xavier Possard.

Based on a conspiracy theory, being thoroughly researched by several French journalists, culminating in this book.

For those yet in in the know, the author Possard sets out in his book a timeline of events to prove that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman ie born a man transitioned to a woman.

Met Macron as a 14year old school boy, whilst living as a woman and his teacher.

If anyone has read it, what are your views?

Here are some more to jog your memories.

JFK murdered by Mossad/CIA/Mafia
Covid came from a lab leak in Wuhan
Mrna vaccines leak foreign DNA into our bodies
Moon Landings are faked
Michelle Obama is also a transitioned man.
Barack Obama is having an affair with Jennifer Anniston (although I'm not sure if this is just classed as a rumour ).
The world is flat
CO2 is heating up the world
We have been invaded by Aliens (UFO type) who look like lizards
4/5G damages human DNA
GM plants will infest natural plants

to name a few.

Are there any others I don't know about and haven't listed here?

Is it purely the weight of evidence which sways a reader to decided such-and-such is no longer a conspiracy?

Or the weight of authority ie The King/Prim Minister/expert now believe this so I must rethink it also?

Or time passing, so the event in question no longer has the political strength to prevent or encourage a certain outcome?

More interestingly, is there a position once considered a conspiracy theory, that you held but later on changed your mind?

In chat because it could be interesting and lighthearted.
Not argumentative or political, but who knows this is GN grin

I've heard that Australia is not a real place.

Great explanation, supports theory!

Sorry, not familiar with Chat. Tried to add my approval of maps explain/support flat earth theory. Liked and was amused.

I keep an open mind on everything, except the war in Gaza.

The weight of evidence leads me and many othersto believe that JFK’s murder was orchestrated by the CIA. Does that make me a conspiracy theorist in the same category as those who believe we have been invaded by lizard like aliens? I think not.

I despair!

I have not read the whole thread, but as I understood it, the OP was interested in other people's thoughts about conspiracy theories, which is quite interesting, though I won't actually spend much time reflecting on it. But I hope the OP has felt ok as she read some of the responses. In my mind it was an OK question to ask, and if it does not interest others, then that too is OK.

Redactrice Wed 19-Mar-25 15:54:06

Maybe you should ask her three children about this?

AuntieE Wed 19-Mar-25 16:24:15

I cannot believe it is necessary to be rude, because you don't agree with someone!

OP does not say she believes any of all this. I understand her to be starting a discussion about a phenomenon, and asking how we decide whether something we are told is factual, or is a conspiracy theory.

So, I shall answer as best I can.

Conspiracy theories have always struck me as predominantly an American phenomenon. Whether they are or not, the common factor is that those who endorse them NEVER provide factual evidence that we can verify or falsify.

That is why they are called theories. The conspiracy comes into play because these theories, have either been disproved, such as the Flat Earth theory by scientists, or because no-one has yet managed to provide factual evidence for them.

When scientific or academic proof becomes available, we will be at liberty to move the theory away from the conspiracy label into whatever branch of science is applicable.

There are undoubtabley people who believe anything they are told or read online or in a newspaper or book.

I don't happen to be one of them, so I tend to shake my head in disbelief at what people accept as true although no proof has been vouchsafed.

For what it's worth, I've always thought that the most likely scenario for the initial outbreak of Covid was an accidental lab leak in Wuhan. I don't think that makes me a conspiracy theorist though - does it? The other CTs listed in the OP are just so much rubbish though and listing them as such just feeds those who believe it all. The thing with the Covid outbreak is that, unlike the other CTS, knowing might help prevent a further pandemic.

That was the point I was making about Covid and Wuhan. Thinking that one event has been covered up does not make anyone a Conspiracy Theorist in the same league as, for example, David Icke and his Lizard people.

Namsnanny I believe my friend that they have seen photos. But were they real? Photos can be altered. In my opinion the one of Prince Andrew with the young girl looked fake to me.

Well then I have to ask the question, why did he pay her??

I know a journalist of a very well known newspaper and they informed me that they had seen photographic evidence to prove that she was born a man. Were the photos fake? Who knows. I most definitely believe the journalist though. They were not allowed to publish them.

Very well-known newspaper? Or very well-respected newspaper?

I suspect the former!

BlueBelle

Who cares who’s a man or who’s a woman as long as they both know what’s what and who’s who
Can’t be bothered with conspiracy theories people believe what they want to believe like now a lot of people don’t think the stranded astronauts have even been out of US 🤣

You have to laugh as some of them were/are hilarious!

I once saw a very long list of famous people who (last claimed) were actually dead and had been cloned and replaced….
Not really sure why!

I do not believe for one millisecond that BM was born male!

She was married before and had three children, unless her pregnancies were all fabricated and her children adopted?? But why??

M0nica Wed 19-Mar-25 19:27:46

This attack on BM is actually part of a wider anti-semitic trope in French politics. Macron himself is part Jewish and this unwarranted and unpleasant attack on BM is a way of attacking Macron himself and his Jewish heritage.

Milest0ne Wed 19-Mar-25 19:58:36

I can debunk the theory that the earth is flat. It is Square.****
I have been to all four corners.

escaped Wed 19-Mar-25 20:24:12

I'm interested how you think Macron is part Jewish, Monica? His genealogy, and family name, certainly points to Picardie, north of Paris, which in turn denotes clear Christian roots, possibly Catholic. I think I remember his paternal great great grandfather was born in Bristol. Other than the fact that his name, Emmanuel, is of Hebrew origin, I know of no other Jewish connection. Do you have a link for his Jewish heritage please?
I do know that Gabriel Attal, the former French Prime Minister, is part Jewish though.

Jaxjacky Wed 19-Mar-25 20:29:00

Very good Churchview
I read that article in France24 too MOnica sounds about right.
I know someone wh believes in many of these theories and won’t leave the house of there are con trails from planes in the sky. She believes they are dropping chemicals to brainwash people and sent by the government, she’s never had, as an adult, any vaccinations (they put chips under your skin) and spends her life in a state of high anxiety., it’s very sad.

escaped Wed 19-Mar-25 20:51:00

Do you mean there's reference to Macron's Jewish heritage in France24? I can't see it?

Mojack26 Wed 19-Mar-25 20:53:32

Agree with you!😅
