While out in town today I had a brief sit down along with various other shoppers of all ages and races. An elderly man dropped a coin under the bench and a young African man leapt into action, ,crawling under the seat to retrieve it for him, then smiled broadly at us all and wished everyone a happy day before heading off. It really lifted my spirits.

A productive day in the garden.

I cut the lawns ahead of No Mow May and re-seeded a couple of bare patches. Planted up a new bed of perennials. Sowed some radishes and spring onions. Split up and re-potted some basil mint for sharing. Potted on seed-grown cherry and plum tomatoes. Planted thunbergia to grow up an obelisk. Put out last year’s overwintered pelargoniums that are flowering gloriously. All the time accompanied by a robin and assorted birdsong.

Tired now but looking forward to Mishal Husain’s story on Who Do You Think You Are? this evening.

Went to collect our new family member from Cat protection fosterer. He’s a beauty but very shy. Unfortunately with lovely hot weather we have all our windows and doors firmly closed to prevent him escaping!

Got a text from the boss of my job after she had an appointment with her oncologist. The results were brilliantly positive for her tumour which is now barely visible. I am so glad for her sunshine

Sarnia

Getting the box with my summer clothes out of the wardrobe. The pleasure part was short lived as a lot of it didn't fit. It happens every time.

😂😂😂

I had a 20% offer through the door from Waitrose. I thought this was a mistake as we haven’t got a Waitrose within striking distance and they’ve never delivered to our humble postcode, but yay, they do now! I feel that our area’s been elevated- perhaps our house prices will be going up? grin

Rant alert! That's ruined my day 😁 Just put in an online order for Waitrose for Saturday and my offers run out on Wednesday.

Oh no, Allira, how annoying! Mine won’t run out. I’m already working on the order, determined to be the first household in the village to have a Waitrose van parked outside. grin

Ooh, you are posh!

I only have Waitrose, others have Ocado round here 😁

My tulips - the Sarah Raven combination attempt didn’t quite work, but nonetheless they are stunning.

Lovely Casdon
I just said to DH that the tulip bulbs I transferred from pots to garden beds haven't appeared. The squirrel may have eaten them but at least he had a good meal or ten. Dear little thing. 🤔

Took a terminally ill friend out today and he said he had a wonderful afternoon. His wife commented on the perfume in the car as we passed two fields of rape. And the sun shone

Wandering along a bridleway with tiddler dog, at 7am with birdsong all around and warm sunlight filtering through the trees. There’s a magnificent crabapple tree in full bloom part way and it stopped me dead in my tracks.
A simple little flower but so beautiful.

I can’t get tulips to do well for more than one year however I treat them, I wish I could, because at their best they really make the garden glow.

Some (well three or four) planted in the garden bed did ok until this year.

Peeled two hard boiled eggs in an instant, no stuck pieces of shell!
My sunflowers and lettuce have germinated, all go now in the greenhouse.
I read white wine can help prevent cardiac arrest 🥂

My younger son dropped in on his way back to London from a meeting in Manchester. He always brightens the place up.

I drove to Lyme Regis with a friend. On arrival, we had a cream tea at mid day just to keep us going, ‘did’ the shops, late afternoon succumbed to scampi & chips having missed proper lunch 😂, walked to the Cob, then sat on a bench and people-watched in the glorious sunshine until it was time to meander home. Just a lovely day.

An extra pick-up of just 10-year-old grandson from school because Mum had to be somewhere else. I don't usually do Wednesdays. I wait for him at the top of Sundial Square and watch for him crossing the quite busy road on the zebra crossing, then we walk home together, although we quite often take a diversion to the Swiss Bakers for a pie or the sushi and wasabi shop to fill an after-school empty space in the tummy.

Unexpected grandson visit yesterday.

My garden gives me enormous pleasure .
I took some photos yesterday and plan to do a huge painting of the lovely tulips

Looking up from my dining table today and seeing the trees now in leaf, the sunshine and the blue sky through my kitchen window and thinking- 'How lucky am I to live here!'

This is such a lovely thread

I have been listening to a dear little girl (3) she has been placed with my young neighbours for short term foster care. She has been busy playing, chatting and laughing just delightful.

Sitting in the sunshine in the back garden this morning, drinking coffee and playing Scrabble with DH. A robin joined us at the table and took an interest for a minute or two - maybe our words weren't up to his standard because he didn't stay long.

yogitree Wed 30-Apr-25 13:12:38

Seeing these pop up in my garden in Scotland this morning.

How kind of you. Makes you realise we should be so grateful for our health, which we take for granted when we are ok.

😔

Noticing that the wegeila, which I'd thought had died, is peeping out from behind a photinia. Both are flowering well this year.
